Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken

My mother recently was so excited to tell me and my daughter about a movie she recently saw.
I said, “Ah, ‘diving horses.’ The only movie they ever showed us in elementary school. Saw it like 5 times a year. I don’t think they had access to another movie.”
Anyone else’s experience, or were we the lucky ones?

Fun fact: there are a few references to this film at Disney's Boardwalk in WDW.

Saw this SO MANY TIMES growing up
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
I watched it as a kid and enjoyed it, tho Natty Gann is my tru tru favorite
ghost_shark_619@reddit
I was obsessed with Natty Gan as a kid. It’s weird how some of Disneys 80s live action films hold up.
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
Yes! the recent harrison ford Call of the Wild is good like that🐕
Here4CatPics@reddit
Also on Disney+!
RealPrincessPrincess@reddit
This where I fell in love with John Cusack.
jackfaire@reddit
For years I wondered why this actress on Dawson's Creek looked familiar then realized she was Natty Gan!!!
charliefussel@reddit
Natty gann!!! The best

When I started having a crush on Gabrielle Anwar.
Furballprotector@reddit
She was so cute in 3 Musketeers too
Thatoneguyfrom1980@reddit
Do you know how excited I was the first time I saw Burn Notice and saw her name?
reapersritehand@reddit
At my school it was "old yeller" then I remember the last year of elementary they switched it to a couple of different Disney movies but mostly just lion king
MisRandomness@reddit
I remember we had a movie day in elementary school and it was supposed to be something else but the tape wasn’t working so they played Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken. I love that movie!
Tiny-Reading5982@reddit
I just saw the history channel show with Henry Winkler and the girl that movie is based on was on there. Going blind because your eyes were open is crazy. Luckily they did ban the sport for the horses safety. I remember this movie and the rocketeer always playing on Disney Channel.

💯💯💯
That's MY memory of these movies! Don't know if I ever actually watched either of them start to finish either but, man, I sure remember seeing clips and hearing about it all the time! The hilarious thing is that I seriously doubt my parents ever paid for a Disney Channel subscription at the time--we only watched Disney Channel during the free preview periods! 😆😆😆
yucayuca@reddit
I rented this from the grocery store video rental at least 10 times!
TacosAreJustice@reddit
I’ve played golf with the director. Steve Miner. Interesting dude, very nice.
egomechanics@reddit
Me and my friends used to "play" Wild Hearts lol - one of us, designated as the horse, would slow motion gallop past another girl who was standing on the edge of her parents' bed - she would then "jump" onto horse girl's back and they'd both fall into the "pool" pile of pillows/blankets. We would do this for HOURS.
Ahhhh the early 90s, I hope kids still do lame little games like this lol 🐎

😂😂😂
egomechanics@reddit
Complete with a slow motion "whhhhoooaoaaaaaaa" sound haha

Greatness.
username__0000@reddit
This and that movie with the terrible riding lawnmower scene. Reece Witherspoon movie?
They seemed super popular when I was a specific age and then everyone forgot about them. lol
And the cutting edge.
feverdog257@reddit
The Man in the Moon.
Kellbows@reddit (OP)
Oof that movie.
MotherofaPickle@reddit
Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken, Journey of Natty Gann, and A Far Off Place were in definite rotation when I was growing up.
Kellbows@reddit (OP)
I do not recall the other movies you mentioned. We 100% watched “Divin’ Horses” that day.
al_brownie@reddit
Oh man I was obsessed with A Far Off Place. I wish it was on streaming.

90’S HORSE GIRLS UNITE
Independent-Win9088@reddit
I just rewatched this again last week. It's on one of the many streaming services somewhere. I can't remember which one.
We never watched in school, but I remember coming across it on cable growing up. I loved it.
QuoVadimusDana@reddit
I loved that movie! Years later I was watching that one spy show Burn Notice and realized that Fiona was the girl from that movie.
Here4CatPics@reddit
It’s on Disney+!! I loved it, but watching it as an adult, she looks way too young to be partnering up with that man.
ButterscotchAware402@reddit
I watched that movie countless times as a child.
Shanntuckymuffin@reddit
When she gave herself that haircut
silenttd@reddit
It catalyzed a whole new fear in my life.
Who knew you could go blind by diving into water with your eyes open? That's all I remember from the movie, the life lesson that there's a bunch of stupid little rules in life you didn't even know were a thing that will just fuck your world up
Spamberguesa@reddit
Same, that was one more thing that added to my fear of water.
Sufficient_Turn_9209@reddit
Growing up as a girl obsessed with horses I've seen every horse movie for our generation and the rest. I was thrilled when my friends were into this one!
bloomdecay@reddit
Loved that movie.
Jerkrollatex@reddit
They kept showing us Clash of the Titans gratuitous boobs normally blocked by a teacher bodily. That was junior high. In elementary school it was a film strip of The Red Balloon. That movie always gave me a headache.
NeptuneAndCherry@reddit
I loved that movie!
sebastianrileyt2@reddit
I loved this as a kid!
Dylan_Is_Gay_lol@reddit
I lived in the southwest, Old Yeller was the perpetual movie.
Annhl8rX@reddit
I went to a (licensed) in-home daycare after school and during summers as a kid. All us boys there HATED when the girls got to choose the movie we watched because there was about an 85% chance it was gonna be this snoozer.
It may very well be a great movie, but I’ll be damned if I ever watch it again.
Ornery_Garden22@reddit
I loved that movie🤣but I feel your pain! My elementary school only had Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Wizard of Oz I can’t watch either to this day!
BalrogRuthenburg11@reddit
I don’t know what this is.
msheehan418@reddit
Saw it in theaters and then pretended to be her
Throwaway_inSC_79@reddit
Babes In Toyland. Always that movie. And then we saw a play of it at the local theater.
I hate that movie.
al_brownie@reddit
I loved it. Michael Schoeffling 😍
abbydabbydo@reddit
I know I watched this 100 times. But my super(fail) power is forgetting movies. After 35 years I couldn’t have even told you it was about horses, anymore.
This trait leaves a big gap in cultural dialogue, but is also quite fun, too. I can watch The Big Lebowski again tomorrow and still be surprised at the ending.
beck33ers@reddit
I loved that movie when I was younger! My sister and I would watch all the time
jojocookiedough@reddit
I was obsessed with this movie as a horse-crazy little girl!
Miserable-Way6902@reddit
This movie is how I learned there was no Santa. Found it in my parent’s closet before Christmas, then under the tree Christmas morning there it was… from Santa. 🎅🏽
sapperbloggs@reddit
My sister loved that movie when she was a kid.
I thought it was stupid.
tessathemurdervilles@reddit
I rented it so much as a kid. All the time. I’m 40 and taking horseback riding lessons this fall- I can finally afford it!
Munchkin531@reddit
I remember catching this on TV one random Saturday. I absolutely loved it! I watched it every time it came on.
OrganizationNew1767@reddit
I watched this a lot in middle school. Someone mentioned it here a few months back. I rewatched it for the first time in decades. It holds up but I only remembered the diving horses part. It’s on Disney plus, friends!
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
I saw in the theater and never again- too sad with the horses.
midnight-dour@reddit
Never saw it, but pretty sure at least one cousin had a mild obsession with that movie.
dmdgrey@reddit
Very heavy rotation in elementary. I remember seeing it at least twice, which is more than any other movie until my high school teachers would put on The Sandlot after state testing to keep us quiet.
