Anyone else remember going to their grandparent's house in the summer and getting this specific flavor of ice cream?

I swear it was everywhere. Every house had it, always in that soggy cardboard box. This oddly tasting peach flavor.
My grandparents sometimes went the extra mile and would have the Neapolitan (chocolate-vanilla-strawberry) if I was lucky, and sometimes only the coffee flavor one as well, which was unappealing to me as a 7-year-old kid, but there seemed to be a 99% chance it was peach.
If I got REALLY lucky, they had a container of Jimmies to go on top, and a maraschino cherry
Seeing these ice cream posts lately; I did some introspection and came out with this dusty old memory. All I could find on google was this blurry old photo. Or maybe it's a clear photo and my eyesight is going...

Yes!

Back when breyers was good. They prided themselves on their "5 natural ingredients". They are not even allowed to legally call it ice cream anymore. Sad state of affairs. Its like a frozen sponge now.

Never

Black cherry Bryers
fridayimatwork@reddit
I forgot all about it

My grandparents, sadly, were orange sherbet people

My grandfather had a peculiar handcrank icecream maker with long oval zinc box. He retired tocoastal AL, always takked Baldwin County peaches, Baldwin County tomatoes when we came to visit. We got homemade peach from that handcrank and it was way better.

Bet it was devine in that old machine

My folks used to have a truck from Schwan's stop by every couple of weeks, we usually got their ice cream bars (NY vanilla covered with chocolate), ice cream sandwiches and a 5-gallon tub of spumoni, now finding spumoni is rarer than hen's teeth.
TwistedMemories@reddit
Nope. But at times my grandpas would pull out the electric ice cream maker and make some ice cream. There was nothing better than freshly made ice cream.

What happened to this brand. It used to be so good. Now it is awful

A couple years ago my dad mistakenly thought Breyer’s was on sale and bought 2 containers. When it rang up not on sale he went to customer service and complained and they gave it to him for a sale price. He was pretty pleased since Breyer’s is the “good” ice cream. Then he ate it. He had me try some. It was awful. He was all excited that he got it for cheap and it was awful. That was the last time he bought Breyer’s.

Agreed.
I loved their Rocky Road. Now it tastes like ass and it has a strange texture.
It is nasty now.
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
Sold, and the buyers felt the need to raise prices and use cheaper ingredients.
A tale as old as... well, the '80s.
nysocalfool@reddit
Yes. They can’t even call it ice cream (legally).
texan01@reddit
No. My grandma never kept ice cream at her house. And I live in Blue Bell country and family.
dystopiadattopia@reddit
No, but I remember those flimsy paper boxes!
JenMartini@reddit
Born in GA, loved peach ice cream. Since being in PA, best ones I’ve had are Tanner’s (Bucks County creamery) and Tilamook from the grocery store
Various-General-8610@reddit
I love Tillamook ice cream. Their Strawberry is wonderful too.
TooFunny4U@reddit
Yes, my grandmother had this. So good!
megaboz@reddit
Didn't have the ice cream but we did get Trix and Froot Loops for the week we stayed with grandparents during summer vacation. After eating cheerios for the other 51 weeks of the year at home.
AnastasiaNo70@reddit
I grew up in Texas. It was Blue Bell all the way.
mbcarrol@reddit
This was the Cadillac of ice cream when I was growing up. “WE HAVE BREYERS PEACH!” I look for it now, many other Breyers flavors but no peach 🍑
elspotto@reddit
No. That was my favorite. We usually had it in the fridge. At home.
Latitude22@reddit
My grandparents were vanilla ice cream only. I don’t believe that they were aware of any other flavors.
Medium-Mission5072@reddit
My grandmother had Breyer’s coffee in her freezer. That was hers and I was not allowed to touch it. She had usually ice cream sandwiches for me (and my other cousins) but that didn’t stop me from sneaking a spoonful or 2 of her coffee ice cream when she wasn’t looking.
kalitarios@reddit (OP)
she knew ;)
marshallkrich@reddit
No, VANILLA ONLY, FUCKER!!!
Moonsmom181@reddit
Yes, we had that but rotated flavors a lot. My Nana always had a lot of ice cream and cones.
Sawgirl@reddit
Are you from New England? Asking cause of Jimmies, lol.
kalitarios@reddit (OP)
yes, I am. Ct, then PA, then back to CT, now VT
Sawgirl@reddit
I figured! I grew up in MA and now I’m in NH.

Peperidge Farms remembers
Why-did-i-reas-this@reddit
Were there peach chunks in it that were somewhat hard?
Sawgirl@reddit
Yes! This flavor tasted so good but the main thing I remember is that it had big frozen pieces of peach in it, which I did not care for as a kid.
doone66@reddit
I remember...good days...
jax2love@reddit
My grandfather used to make peach ice cream in an old hand crank ice cream maker. It was DIVINE.
kalitarios@reddit (OP)
oh wow, that must have tasted amazing. this is now on my to-do this year at some point
jax2love@reddit
Fresh, ripe peaches are key.
Commercial_Wind8212@reddit
Thanks teach
sola_mia@reddit
Ditto
hitthebrake@reddit
We did cherry nut…or just cherry or vanilla.
AdWestern994@reddit
Same.
Best cherry vanilla I've ever had.
Coconut-bird@reddit
Same, my memories of peach ice cream are all of homemade ice cream from the crank ice cream maker.
CynfullyDelicious@reddit
Same!! I’m in Georgia, and when the peaches came into season, oh fuck yeah. Best ice cream I’ve ever had.
Old_Goat_Ninja@reddit
Nope. My grandfather always got pecans and praline. Always.
aynchint_ayleein@reddit
I remember a half gallon used to be a half gallon, not 1.5qt.
::shakes fist in the air::
Fritz5678@reddit
The old folks in my family always had cherry vanilla.
holidayoffools@reddit
My grandparents always had maple nut ice cream.
Shen1076@reddit
Yes !
Competitive_Arm2593@reddit
This slaps hard
ZweigleHots@reddit
Yes, I remember that, and I can almost taste it even though it's probably been 30 years.
buginmybeer24@reddit
We used to make it with a hand crank ice cream maker and fresh peaches. It was delicious.
Providence451@reddit
Classic!
Maleficent_Bit2033@reddit
It was a good flavor but homemade was the bomb. We spent a lot of our summers making homemade ice cream at the farm.
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
Still my favorite flavor, but can’t find breyers peach anywhere.
Familiar_Palpitation@reddit
Nah, we had the orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream checker board that Grandma cut out of the box.
hecticengine@reddit
I lived with my grandma, and we definitely went through many cartons of this. Wish they still made it.
CynfullyDelicious@reddit
Blue Bell Peach Ice Cream. Better than Breuer’s IMO.
hecticengine@reddit
Thanks for the tip! I’m not sure why I’ve never looked for that or noticed if I saw it.
RCA2CE@reddit
My grandparents ate butter pecan and I always thought it was gross. Who eats that, ugh. Wierdos.
SugarSpunPsycho@reddit
The Chick-Fil-A peach milkshake tastes just like this did. The first time I tried one, I was transported. Now its a must have every summer.
SlideItIn100@reddit
No, but it looks delicious!
