When I was shooting

Trying sighting first at around 7-10 yards then go out to 100, etc . There are some great apps to calculate drop too.

Thank you so much. Have a great rest of your night.

I would hope this is for when you are shooting. Sights aren't that important if you're hitting something with the stock or just carrying it.
And keep in mind that the rifle and you are a system. If the rifle isn't precise and you're not precise, then you won't be putting shots in the same place every time no matter how good your sights are.

Everybody’s got their methods. So I’ll tell you mine. After I do a build the first thing I do is use a cartridge style bore scope, this gets them fairly close, I’ll remove it, spin it and reinsert it three times just to verify it’s on point and that the laser hasn’t gone stupid. Then it’s off to the range, fire, adjust, rinse and repeat as needed. But I cheat on this part. And this might not be for you, I have a hydraulic buffer tube and a recoil reducing muzzle brake that I use on my rifles while sighting in, I use a lead sled that I mount the gun to and I run subs one at a time since most won’t cycle the gun. So basically I strap the gun down where it can’t move, reduce as much “felt recoil” as possible. On average it’ll be dead set by the fifth shot. Then I switch out the buffer and brake and test fire with 5.56 from a standard position.

Thank you

Do not listen to any of that. Its a absolute waste of time and you will end up with a rifle thats not zeroed for the ammo you are shooting.
Maleficent_Mix_8739@reddit
Just remember, if you do this YOU’RE A DAMN CHEATER
And you’ll hear a bunch of “back in my day…” grumbles at the range 🤣

Yep those old men

It’s getting easier for me now that I’m all grey myself, but haters gonna hate. Really gets under their skin when I show up with an air rifle…..a .50 cal PĊP rifle.
SHOOTINGandYOU07@reddit (OP)
I love air rifles
Maleficent_Mix_8739@reddit
Me too. My Umarex hammer 50 replaced my AR as my go to hog hunting gun when I lived in Texas
englisi_baladid@reddit
You shoot 5 56 subs to zero?
Maleficent_Mix_8739@reddit
No, I shoot .223 subs and only load 1 at a time to avoid jams. After I get it set how I want it, I switch back to the regular tube and cage and then test it a few times with 5.56 fired from the shoulder while standing.
englisi_baladid@reddit
Why the fuck would you use subs if you are trying to zero super 5.56?
Maleficent_Mix_8739@reddit
Guess ya missed my first sentence..”everybody’s got their own methods”. I’ve been dialing in rifles for about 40 years and over the years I’ve adopted many methods. An AR15 isn’t a dot the ace at 1000+ yards gun. And while I always appreciate trolls that want to feed me ballistics cookies in all reality the likelihood of harvesting a deer at even 200 yards with a clear line of sight isn’t very common. And btw, out of literally hundreds of guns I’ve set up this way I’ve never had a single complaint. So do whatever works for you. And happy shooting
englisi_baladid@reddit
So you have a unzeroed gun then?
Maleficent_Mix_8739@reddit
Show me where the OP said they were zeroing, they’re wanting their iron sights to be very accurate. When you switch back over to your 5.56 you can tweak it more if you need to. Like seriously, you got mush between your ears or something?
englisi_baladid@reddit
What do you think accurate means dude..
unluckygrey@reddit
The rifle sights not zeroed.

Shoot from a rest. Adjust. Repeat.
