GPU advice - console replacement for gaming on the couch with a 4K 65" LG C4 OLED 120Hz TV

I would like to get an Nvidia 5 series card to make use of DLSS4, it may seem above and beyond console performance, and I know the PS5 Pro is capable of, which feels a bit underwhelming in most games. Could be a lot more to do with the CPU and games that are "PS5 Pro Enhanced" tho.
Right now I'm looking at a RTX 5060 Ti ($600) or a RTX 5070 Ti ($1200)
In terms of 4K 120Hz with DLSS4 is the 5060 Ti more than capable? Or if I really want silky smooth go with the 5070 Ti and have that for a lot longer lifespan? Thinking about maybe pairing with a 7800X3D and 32GB DDR5 CL30.

PS5 pro

I already own one, primarily for GTA VI when it releases next year. Some games are just crap on console. Gotham Knights, a PS5 game, even when played on PS5 Pro, is locked at 30fps. Shadow of Mordor, Shadow of War, these are older titles that haven't been updated since PS4 era -- in comparison to PC they are just horrible performance. So I am missing PC when it comes to everything else gaming wise.

A 5060 Ti isn't going to you away at the same price but the 5080 in the US is now closer to 1k. That should do much of what you need and last a few years with dlss.
I'm not sure about 5070ti pricing but I for sure wouldn't pay $1200 for it

All depends on on your budget. But, if you want to get anywhere close to 4K 120, you're going to need the 5070 Ti.

OK thanks - even with DLSS4?
aragorn18@reddit
Yes. For example, I'm playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 right now on my 4K TV and I have to use DLSS 4 Performance mode and turn the settings down to high to get 120 FPS, and I have an RTX 4090.
avidrunner84@reddit (OP)
Weird. The game runs on UE5, I would think DLSS4 would offer a large performance increase, especially if your baseline is a solid 60 fps natively. Could it be that you are not actually getting full frame gen on the 4090 like the 5 series cards?
aragorn18@reddit
Oh, I understand. I didn't enable frame generation. It makes panning look really stuttery.

5070ti would work better for you

5060 Ti 16 GB is more comparable to console. 5070 Ti is a great option for pushing all the way to 120 Hz. But 5070 Ti Super is rumored to offer 24 GB when it launches, so you could also wait.
7800X3D is fantastic choice, but 4K displays will likely not see benefit from X3D, especially when the display is limited to 120 Hz. You will be GPU-bound.
Gaming on 4k120 can be beautiful. I have seem some issues with flashing to black when VRR enabled on OLEDs tho, so you may need to turn VRR off in some situations.

Ah OK, can you please elaborate on 4K displays not seeing benefit from X3D? Just not following what you mean

X3D might help get you get well beyond 120 Hz in 1440P or 1080P for displays that support those higher refresh rates. But this 4K TV will only ever hit 120 Hz until you upgrade the TV and HDMI 2.1 might only hit 144 Hz until we know more about what's possible.
Consider whether this PC will be dedicated to the 4K TV and whether it will do productivity, too. Also consider your viewing distance from the TV. Some of these TVs can upscale from 1440P to 4K internally and at some distances, you may not perceive a difference.
Consider 9600X, 14600K, and 265K. And be sure you consider the Framework Desktop. It's incredibly versatile and coming soon. The smaller size should be ideal for HTPC, if that's the ultimate home for this machine.

Neither card is really 4K 120Hz capable unless you are using DLSS Performance. In which case even calling it 4K isn't true, the render resolution would be 1080p.
However the same can be said about consoles, they don't natively render 4K 120Hz. Usually something like 1200p for quality mode and 900p for performance mode.
If you have the budget I would get the 5070 Ti or 9070XT, the extra performance will let you run higher quality settings.

4K 120hz via DLSS4 is the goal, not looking for native 4K 120Hz, as that would break the bank and imo not really be worth the difference in gameplay

4K 120 you really need a 5080 unless you are okay with turning settings down and/or not using RTX. For games like cyberpunk even a 5090 is right at the threshold. I have to use DLSS & frame gen to get a solid 120fps 4K with a 5090 & 9950X3D in cyberpunk with max settings
avidrunner84@reddit (OP)
I'm fine with DLSS, I don't need native 4K
