So what are some crazy things you used to come up with as slightly enhanced snacks? The 2 i remember so well n used to love were saltine crackers dipped in cool whip (just had a few ystrday) n sprinkle a little salt on an apple flavored jolly rancher stick. Anyone else love either of these?

Peanut Butter and Mayonaise sandwiches. YUM!!
fitandstrong0926@reddit
I used to eat cottage cheese and apple sauce.

This one grosses my husband & stepdad out, white rice with ketchup on it. I sometime have it for lunch when I'm home alone so I don't have listen to the commentary.
Aggravating-One2200@reddit
Not overly crazy, but: tortilla chips + shitty brick cheese + microwave = chips n’ cheese.
A delicacy.
Latter-Stage-2755@reddit
I will eat this any time.
1981denver@reddit
And I just ate that about 20 mins ago. Spoon some salsa on top of the cheese once you've melted it.
Aggravating-One2200@reddit
Helloooooo high roller!
Latter-Stage-2755@reddit
I could have a zillion dollars, and I’m still microwaving lime chips and shredded cheese. lol
Aggravating-One2200@reddit
Hint o lime ftw
Latter-Stage-2755@reddit
Absolutely
Aggravating-One2200@reddit
There’s never a bad time for chips n cheese
Latter-Stage-2755@reddit
Ever melted a slice of American cheese on a rice cake? Game changer
Aggravating-One2200@reddit
No, but I’m gonna.
phillymjs@reddit
For me it was a jar of Cheez Wiz microwaved and poured over unflavored Doritos.
Aggravating-One2200@reddit
Hell yeah. Tasty town.

My ex used to love dipping fried shrimp into chocolate pudding. Mind you, he was high all the time. So maybe his tastebuds were in overdrive. Lol

Yeah, my pothead brother used to boil water, drop his Ramen block into a bowl n then pour the water over it. Then he'd ignorantly crunch away his din din.
Few-Pineapple-5632@reddit
Apple Jacks and soft serve vanilla ice cream.
dvl36s@reddit (OP)
Ok, now that one sounds really good!

Cheap frozen pizza (cooked of course) with hot dogs cut up on it like pepperoni.
Drewcifer70@reddit
Peanutbutter, bacon, and lettuce on toast
SarahJaneB17@reddit
This is mine too. No lettuce though, and the peanut butter needs to get melty.

I used to add cottage cheese to my spaghetti (still do sometimes). My kids picked up that habit. Used to send my ex-husband over the edge. 🤣
To really freak people out, one of my Mom’s “depression foods” was spaghetti with cottage cheese and…apple sauce, all mixed up. With a side of ice cold Diet Pepsi. 🤢
1981denver@reddit
My mom always used cottage cheese in lasagna instead of ricotta, because it was cheaper.
dvl36s@reddit (OP)
Cottage cheese is pretty gross but truly delicious when mixed with pineapple bits.
Fluffy-Match9676@reddit
My dad used to do saltines and ice cream. Thanks for bringing back a fond memory!
phillymjs@reddit
Pretzels and ice cream was my thing when I was a kid.
Sufficient_Stop8381@reddit
I didn’t come up with it but saw it or tried it: salting watermelon and putting cheddar cheese on apple pie.
phillymjs@reddit
Salting melon does amp up the flavor. I never even heard of putting cheddar cheese on apple pie until one episode of Mad Men.
Electronic_Dog_9361@reddit
I used to put dill pickles and yellow mustard on an American cheese slice and fold it over like a sandwich. I just did it again last week with bourbon habanero pickles, Cuban mustard and extra sharp cheese slices. Still a good snack, my husband thought it was disgusting.
dvl36s@reddit (OP)
Just remembered pickles in kool aid was one my sister introduced me to n it was really good. Had to be a red kool aid.
phillymjs@reddit
I never heard of those before an episode of Good Eats on pickles. Never made them, but the idea is intriguing.

Bread and butter coated in white granulated sugar

When I was a kid, my dad had to make dinner when my mom was gone. This happened maybe three times a year. I loved what he made… Campbell’s Cheese soup poured over a bowl of saltine crackers. He call it Welsh Rabbit, yes, rabbit. His other dinner was spreading cream cheese on white bread and covering it with chopped up green olives.
Latter-Stage-2755@reddit
Welsh Rarebit, aka Welsh Rabbit is melted cheese over bread. So, while it wasn’t the perfect rendition… he wasn’t wrong
Few-Pineapple-5632@reddit
My stepdad used to throw balls of hamburger into a pan and boil them with Worcestershire sauce. All the grey liquid would ooze out of the top as they cooked.
Weird thing was, they actually tasted pretty good.
emememaker73@reddit
My father wasn't much of a cook. He knew how to make toast and to boil water to make his instant coffee. But, once the grill was involved, he was the only one allowed anywhere near it. He did a decent job grilling, but was completely inept in the kitchen. Odd that I ended up being the child who learned how to cook and bake, while my sister learned how to maintain a car.
Blue22Studio@reddit
I used to make “cookie milk”… you take way too many vanilla wafers and put them into a glass, then pour milk over it and eat with a spoon 😍
Aqua-Hazelnut@reddit
I did this with Chips Ahoy.
goodbyegoosegirl@reddit
I did it with graham crackers and sugar
LuckyBallnChain@reddit
I did this with Oreos and cake.
suer72cutlass@reddit
Peanut butter on iceberg lettuce leaves. Also miracle whip on iceberg lettuce leaves. We ran out of bread a lot.
lllloydo@reddit
Doritos in a banana.
Providence451@reddit
Saltines and butter.
Peanut butter and potato chips sandwiches.
Late_Education_6224@reddit
I was starting to think only we did saltines and butter.
tambor333@reddit
James Beard's onion sandwiches.
Trisket with peanut butter and little red onion and a touch of horseradish
SciFi_Wasabi999@reddit
Saltines and store bought chocolate frosting. It's surprisingly good!
Doritos with cheddar cheese melted on top ( in the oven). My neighbor used to make it.
XerTrekker@reddit
Potato chips dipped in cottage cheese are one of my comfort foods, inherited from my grandpa.
I also love peanut butter on waffles with syrup.
DidAnyoneFeedTheDog@reddit
Mine was pretzels in cottage cheese.
bence73@reddit
Doritos dipped in white vinegar! That gross orange dust would stain my fingers like Easter eggs lol
beaus_tender_0c@reddit
Huge spoonful of Jif Extra Crunchy peanut butter dipped into a jar of bacos is absolutely delicious. Fair warning - don’t swallow the entire glob at once. I almost choked to death one time from doing it.
emememaker73@reddit
Tortilla chips dipped in honey. Best afternoon snack ever.
