Covid Vaccine Availability

My PCP didn’t have them, I tried CVS (because that’s who my insurance requires me to use as a pharmacy) and the earliest available appt, in the closest 23 locations to me, is September 5th. I looked at Walgreens and it says they are not available at all at this moment. Has anyone gotten one recently? If so, where did you go? And were they available right away? I was hoping to go today. I’m in Dallas proper (75225) but I’m willing to drive if necessary

The new version will be out in the next couple of weeks. Not all pharmacies will administer the shot. Schedule through an app and say that you have a health condition. CVS off of Lemmon Ave. That will work this year, but it may not work next year.

Thank you for this information! I’ll definitely make an appt

Tom Thumb off of Field Street has it. I got my flu and Covid vaccine on Thursday.
HotRodChevy55@reddit
Why would anyone want a COVID shot anyway knowing what we know now about them not preventing COVID nor preventing the spread of COVID?!
yarmulke@reddit
Because many people get their news from reliable sources instead of boomer-level Facebook memes

This is what happens when you elect and tolerate anti-vaxxers.
Roadtrippers4@reddit
Fascist government and imbecile Kennedy have limited who can get them because you know, they are infectious disease experts. Whoever voted for these conman clowns, I hope you’re happy.
royalooozooo@reddit
Try Costco. I’ve been getting the novavax option for the last 2 years and they always have it in stock.
volatilegtr@reddit
I called my pharmacy last week when I couldn’t make an appointment for it online, and they said they’re expecting the latest Covid vaccine for the fall strains next week. They’ve been waiting on the manufacturer, so I assume it’s similar for almost all other pharmacies.
Kooky-Celebration-22@reddit (OP)
Thank you! Hopefully it gets here quick
arlenroy@reddit
The CVS I use had them, at least they did yesterday, off Campbell and Hillcrest. They asked me when I was picking up my prescription, that and the flu shot. I always get it, just yesterday I was short on time. You might want to call and ask that location. Good luck
SelfWipingUndies@reddit
I couldn’t schedule one on the CVS website, but was able to get one by walking up to the pharmacy and asking.
wannabetmore@reddit
I just am getting over COVID. Get the vaccine.
thinkbox@reddit
Did you have the vaccine?
Kooky-Celebration-22@reddit (OP)
So sorry to hear that! Glad you’re on the end of it. Heard the symptoms are bad. I have only had it once and I lost my voice for a week and was in so much pain every time I attempted to talk or eat. I work in health care with kids and the numbers are high in the area. I’m really hoping I don’t get it!
Melodic_Turnover_877@reddit
There will be very limited access this year. https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/30/health/covid-19-vaccine-eligibility-medical-conditions-wellness
Ace_of_Dogs@reddit
I am furious the vaccines are being limited this way, but the list includes “physical inactivity” as qualifying condition so it would be pretty easy tell a pharmacist you have a physically inactive lifestyle and therefore qualify.
Even barring the possible lie route, obesity, diabetes, and depression also qualify and I bet that covers a lot of people. And everyone else can still get it with a prescription, which I’m sure doctors who follow evidence-based practice will be happy to write.
Again, I’m horrified and angry that anti-vax, anti-science politicians are taking away easy access to the vaccine, just want to point out that everybody who wants it has a way to get it, there are just more hoops to jump through.
Accomplished_One3985@reddit
I guess I'm 100% confused about the new FDA recommendations. I thought anyone can still get the vaccine if their doctor blesses it.
noncongruent@reddit
Back when doctor visits were free and convenient and it didn't cost you any unpaid time off from work then yeah, it was easy to get a doctor's prescription for a vaccine.
Accomplished_One3985@reddit
I guess count me in the group that doesn't know what a free doctor visit is.
noncongruent@reddit
They never were, that's the joke.
Accomplished_One3985@reddit
I must've missed the joke. You literally said back when Dr visits were free in reference to the covid vaccine which has only been around for 5 years.
noncongruent@reddit
"...prescription for a vaccine".
The point is that putting COVID vaccines, or any vaccines, behind a prescription paywall just works to increase the spread of disease and harm. Put succinctly, it's stupid.
Accomplished_One3985@reddit
Looks like we both need to do research. Turns out you don't need a Dr to get a covid vaccine. Congrats friend, we've solved the problem.
noncongruent@reddit
Not in Texas, but in several states you now do.
Ace_of_Dogs@reddit
My understanding is they can.
The complaint is that until now, anyone has been able to show up at a pharmacy and get a vaccine from a pharmacist, no questions asked. Now, if you don’t fit into one of the designated high-risk groups you need a prescription from your doctor before the pharmacist at CVS/Walgreens/etc. can vaccinate you. This might be a pain to get, especially if you have to make an appointment to discuss it with their doctor first. Plenty of people don’t have a primary care physician, and even if they do it takes time to get an appointment. I can’t get an appointment with my PCP less tab two weeks out, many probably have longer wait times. Plus, depending on your insurance situation a doctor visit costs money and this could be prohibitive for some people. Also, most PCPs are open 9-5 so people might have to take time off work to get an appointment.
So the vaccines are available, but making people jump through a bunch of unnecessary hoops still makes it harder for some people to get them and I’m sure fewer people will get them as a result. Some because they can’t be bothered to jump through the hoops, others because the extra time or money they have to spend getting a prescription or getting the shot from a doctor are prohibitive for them.
I think they also changed the approval and recommendation for children, especially young kids, and that may also cause a problem. I haven’t been following that super-closely, though, because I don’t have any kids of my own.

Don't quote me on if they'll be able to get you a RX for a covid shot, but Texas Health offers $49 flat rate video visits.
Ace_of_Dogs@reddit
I’m glad that option exists, and tele-visits are great! I caught COVID a couple months ago (despite a booster last fall) and got Paxlovid the same day I tested positive from a tele-visit. I still think it’s silly that people might have to shell out $50 per person (so for a family it’s multiplied) for a prescription for something that used to be available without one.
To be clear, I don’t really have a dog in this fight. I’m considered obese, (working on it, but not quite out of the range yet) so I qualify with no prescription and if I didn’t it’s fairly easy for me personally to visit the doctor, and my insurance will pick up most of the cost. I just know it’s not that simple for everybody.
DumbBitchByLeaps@reddit
I have a special needs child who also has epilepsy and fevers can be a trigger for him. I’m that parent who takes their kids to get all the vaccines they need because I don’t want to take the risk that they could suffer horrible complications or even death.
These fucknuts in the government are comprising the health of our children.
FarrahsWarriorJar@reddit
um what?
all children have seizures when their fever gets high enough lol
Razor1834@reddit
Around 1/3 of Americans are overweight, with another 1/3 obese.
There’s literally no reason we shouldn’t be administering vaccines for anyone who wants them given 2/3 of our population has “underlying conditions”.

“CVS said Friday that it’s not offering Covid-19 vaccinations in 16 states and Washington, DC, due to the current regulatory environment: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.
In all but three of those states — Massachusetts, Nevada and New Mexico — CVS pharmacies can administer a Covid-19 vaccination, depending on the patient’s age, with an authorized prescriber’s prescription, Thibault said."

I was just able to schedule an appointment with CVS for September 5. Don't think any of the new batch will be available before then.
Word to the wise, when signing up it asks if you're at risk of severe health complications from COVID-19. If you say no, it says sorry, can't give you the vaccine. So just hit yes lol.

September 5 is Friday.. Just book it with them!

I went yesterday and couldn’t get one. My pharmacist explained that since the newest version was just approved, they are no longer allowed to use the remaining older doses and have to send them back. The new vaccine should be available next week, so September 5 is likely the soonest anyone can get it. Bummer, but on the bright side we will get the most up-to-date version and have immunity against newer variants.
Anyway I got a flu shot yesterday and will go back for Covid vaccine next week.
DowntownComposer2517@reddit
I think the earliest availability is September 5th.
JerseyInTexas@reddit
I heard this too, nationwide. I couldn't make an online appointment until Sept 4.
MissElphie@reddit
Is the updated one for this year out?
electricgotswitched@reddit
A lot of comments saying a 2-4 weeks out it seems
