What an absolute essay. Thank you for the genuine, honest to god slice of life stories, Reuters.
It's almost like Russia is treating the place like it's part of Russia now, like they said they would. Rebuilding it, and restoring the regular way of life piece by piece.
Let's see if all of those people are those that left Energodar and are residing in Ukrainian controller territory now. We can't have any bias leaked into our reporting.
Congratulations, Reuters. You interviewed 50 Ukrainian nationals and got 50 "everything Russia does is bad" takes, with extra sugar on top for more dramatic propaganda effect.
I would have never seen it coming.
Again, almost like Russia is treating the place like it's part of Russia now. Why whould Russia tolerate disloyal population in this case? Does Ukraine tolerate openly pro-russian citizens?
Wait, so you already know this, but... you are still puzzled... for some reason? Or is this the case of "Russia always lies, so we can't trust anything they say, even this" or something?
Ah yes, the infamous Russian love patrols. They also bring along those mood rings from 1975 to make sure you also pass the vibe check.
But went clinically blind when it came to its subsequent shelling by Ukraine, or Ukraine's recent attack on Russia's own NPP. If Ukraine blows up an NPP, the radiation spread is going to have rejuvenating properties instead of spreading toxic poison.
So... regular Russian school curriculum then? In the territory Russia now considers its own? Truly shocking.
Hold on, I thought it was Russia shelling their own troops at the NPP.
Of course they haven't. There's always this kind of disclaimer.
Giving people good education makes them easier to control. Got it. I understand why education is so difficult to obtain in the west now; it's all about preserving their god-given freedoms.
Ah yes, on the one hand Russia desperately needs NPP workers to stay and run the plant (an earlier claim in the article), while on the other it cripples them at every turn.
Outrageous claims require outrageous ~~proof~~ disclaimers. There's always one provided, without fail. They think it absolves them of any responsibility.
See? There's another one.
It's not like Ukraine hasn't been trying to retake the place several times now or anything, and continues to shell it periodically since the day it was taken over. But no, the "hydra" is there to enslave and oppress of course.
All in all it's a nice story. Now go interview what USA democrats think about MAGA people. The world needs to know the unbiased truth about America.

It seems like your strongly pro Russia, so I have a question for you. What do you believe is Putin's end goal to all of this? Are the Ukrainians that reman in the captured territories going to get forcibly Russophied or allowed keep their identity? Is Russia going to stop attacking and getting involved in Ukrainian affairs if it gets what it wants? Do you see peace for the foreseeable future after this?
I know I asking a lot of questions, but I would like to hear an alternate opinion on this subject.
VintageGriffin@reddit
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not simply trolling or baiting.
Russia and Putin have been remarkably consistent in stating the goals of the conflict 10+ years even before it began, when it started, and to this day. All you need to do is to discard your preconceived notions of what Russia is and what it does, and actually listen to what they are saying. Putin's speech declaring the start of the conflict is pretty clear on the reasons.
Ensure Russia's regional security concerns are met. The hard way, if diplomacy doesn't work.
Russia doesn't give a damn what nationality you are as long as you are not a rabid nazi or an active Rusophobe. Russia is home to 190 ethnic groups already, and they seem to be able to make it work.
If the west stops getting involved in regional affairs aimed at causing harm to Russia. They never do it directly though, so it's their proxies that get to suffer the consequences. In this case, Ukraine.
Russia doesn't care about Ukrainian affairs as long as those affairs are not anti-Russian. Ukraine is not even a player here however, it's an expendable battering ram aimed by the west with express purpose of causing harm to Russia, regardless of the costs they would have to incur in the process. Could have been literally anyone else; they tried to get Georgia(?) to do it before but failed.
Know what else is anti-Russian? NATO. It's literal reason for existence is to be Russia's enemy, and it has been creeping up and enveloping Russia ever since it was created; against their promises not to do so. Just look at how close Russia's country borders have creeped up to NATO's military bases.
So the birds and the bees got together and birthed modern day Ukraine, the ideological existence of which was purpose bred to literally be anti-russia. Couple that with flirting with NATO since ugh, 1992? and having it's military bases moving in, was no longer something Russia could stand to tolerate.
All Ukraine needed to do was stay neutral and stop bombing people in Donbass. It's a bit too late for that now, and the conditions have worsened. But in a nutshell it's still the same: neutrality, recognition of all people's rights, removal of nazis and rabid rusophobes from all positions of power. The rest is payment for the damages incurred.
The west did not spend three decades breeding project Ukraine to just let it go. They are going to finance and arm them, they are going to stall for time to recuperate and do it again (why do you think they are asking for ceasefire first, peace talks later), and they are going to do as much damage to Russia as possible, as they say, down to the last Ukrainian.
They are just not going to let it go, even if it means their complete financial ruin and Ukraine's complete collapse, both physical and demographical. This is their last chance to collapse Russia and use it's riches to save themselves from the impending financial crisis - and Ukraine is their best proxy in history this far.
So the only way this can end is for Russia to completely wipe all of Ukraine's armed forces to the point they can no longer offer any kind of organized resistance, and be forced to literally unconditionally capitulate.
The west is going to try to prevent that from happening by trying to send their own troops, which isn't going to work because they just don't have the means or the stomach handle this conflict. But by golly they are going to make so much noise about all of it.
The main concern is that they're just going to take this to the nuclear threshold for the lack of any other available options, and refusing to admit defeat. At that point all bets would be off, and our civilization would probably end.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with policies in areas that Russia has captured - Ukrainian identity and language is being eradicated. Teaching of all Ukrainian language for example is replaced with Russian in captured areas. Russia de jure annexed parts of Ukraine and joined it to Russian federation.
You're referring to Putin's speeches. If you listen many of them, you also hear quite weird historical reasoning going back hundreds of years. Also in that political speeches, you have to take into account that justification for war is forged in all ways possible, almost like that everyone can find the justification they like themselves.
All in all, I think that you viewpoint is pretty much one-to-one to the "official" one that Russian authorities are pushing. Is that the most accurate point of view - most certainly not. It starts with the premise that Russia has genuine security conserns about it's european neighbours and argues that it has the justification to do anything, even war, to change it. And those arguments almost completely dismiss the actual independence and sovereignity of countries neighbouring Russia, including Finland. In this thinking it's like Russia is the actual important place that has to be cared for and has independence, and Finland, baltics, Ukraine and others are less important countries that just need to do what Russia wants. Living in a country next to Russia, I disagree with this.
But that viewpoint also underestimates Russian imperialism and its goals. Russia and it's current government also has lots of ideological thinking where the actual reasoning for many things are actually purely imperialistic in nature, even when they are justified in other, more easily marketable ways.
Practical-Pea-1205@reddit
What makes you think there would have been peace if Ukraine had stayed neutral? Putin has said multiple times that all of Ukraine belongs to Russia. And countries joined NATO because of Russia. The Baltic countries, for example, where under Russian occupatiin from Word War two until Soviet was dissolved. They did not join Soviet voluntarily. And they joined NATO because they don't want to end up under Russian occupation again.
Practical-Pea-1205@reddit
Ukraine wasn't created to be anti-Russia. In fact, until Russia invaded Ukraine the vast majority of Ukrainians had a favorable view of Russia. And what makes you think there would have been peace if Ukraine had stayed neutral. Putin has said multiple times that all of Ukraine belongs to Russia. And Lavrov wore a USSR t-shirt to the meeting with Trump in Alaska.
Downingst@reddit
Thank you for your reply.
imunfair@reddit
Chechnya is probably a good reference for what it looks like.
I think if Ukraine had surrendered easily at the start of the war there wouldn't have been any suppression of the Ukrainian identity, since it was seen as an offshoot of the USSR, not some foreign entity. But now that it stands as a symbol of resistance to Russia I think you'll see a crackdown on pro-Ukrainian action for a while after Russia wins. They'll need to crack down on nationalism to remove any thoughts of future independence.
Boner-Salad728@reddit
How dare you to actually read article and, especially, notice the disclaimers!?
Cmon, you were supposed to swallow the title and form a quick opinion from it, not that.
Practical-Pea-1205@reddit
You're OK with forcing Ukrainians to turn into Russians?
Boner-Salad728@reddit

This game can be played in two ways. Are you OK with forcing Russians to turn into Ukrainians?
The difference between Ukraine and Russia is that Ukraine has banned the teaching of the Russian language and its use in the arts and media, as well as in culture. In the 2000s, approximately 80% of Ukrainians were Russian-speaking, and since then, Russian schools have been systematically closed. Children have been Ukrainized for 20 years, which is actually an act of ethnocide. In Russia, parents have always had the choice to choose the language of education for their children.
BrutalistLandscapes@reddit
Russia is as white supremacist as Ukraine. Most Slavic countries are.
enterisys@reddit
Ah yes. How could you not mention the USA lol
Chroma_primus@reddit
And also removing al sings of it being ever ukrainina.
I bet you would be hard pressesd to find any ukrainians supporting the Brutal russian invasion that started without a warning.
Also doesn't the blatant russian imperialism contradict your story about russian security not being met if instead they russify the hole Region and force the people out, imposse language bans, and "loyality" Training.
The xherry on top is of course that you try to act like russia doesn't Tortur civilians and combatants alike.
imunfair@reddit
I always laugh when they do that with government officials Ukraine claims run regions they no longer control. They talk shit about how poorly the regions they fled two years ago are doing while they sit in exile in some other Ukrainian city.
