What like a union strike? That's crazy talk around here brother.

But why of trucker band together and stopped driver for 2 weeks we could halt the whole country

they did that in Canada and the government shut down their bank accounts and basically cancelled them from normal life
4d72426f7566@reddit
A very small minority of truckers went to Ottawa.
I know a lot of Canadian truckers and only know of two people who went to Ottawa. My Sunday school teacher from decades ago and his stepson. Grain farmers a few hours away from Ottawa. If he had a truck there, it would have been sitting idle anyways.
Longjumping_Wolf_761@reddit
I had to go around their hwy shutdowns for months All they were trying to do was Fuk Trudeau and instead they fucked us on the hwy
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Yeah, and most of them were upset about things that had nothing to do with Trudeau to begin with - they were upset about things that were provincially enacted (Doug ford), or USA enacted and had absolutely zero to do with the federal government. But going to Ottawa and screeching like babies at Trudeau somehow seemed logical to these idiots.
PrivatePilot9@reddit
As someone who lives near Ottawa, trust me, the 0.01% of the actual industry that participated in that nonsense were just the full potato crazies, and a not insignificant portion consisted of āangry white Guys in pickup trucksā who werenāt even truckers to begin with.
The rest of us were out doing our jobs.
Xhamatos@reddit
This, in fact I check my bank account every time I go past Ottawa.
Wahree_77@reddit

25+ for myself haha. The Great Truckers Strike.... People have fucking bills to pay. Nobody's taking that hit
DreamsServedSoft@reddit
nah just donāt pay them for a few months. tell the banks to take a hike until the strike is over.
theres another reason why it wonāt work though. multiculturalism. Amazon pushed for a diverse workforce because such a workforce is less likely to form unions. if you guys didnt have to compete with third worlders who will work for pennies it would be easier to pull off. goes for any industry really
Thrasympmachus@reddit
Not sure why youāre getting downvoted when youāre right. Amazon does such tactics so they have more leverage. Much easier to screw the third-world illegal immigrant that has everything to lose versus the guy that can just flip the bird and get another trucking job elsewhere. āMulticulturalismā is simply the newest buzzword that Amazon has managed to embed in everyoneās mind so they can avoid calling it what it really is, which is indentured servitude.
ignoreme010101@reddit
Simple- because there are a lot of 'white knights', and immigrants, in this sub. It is hardly worth debating whether or not immigrants from, say, Indian slums are gonna happily work for a fraction of what an American would. Is this the only factor? No, not at all. But it is a factor and it is not even a little racist to acknowledge it.
Thrasympmachus@reddit
āRacistā has become such an overused word that it no longer has that impact it once did; itās entirely overused.
Is what it is.
Cars-Shoes-N-Scents@reddit
Multiculturalism is just another way of saying divide and conquer. You get the peasants fighting and blaming each other instead of blaming the greedy bastards at the top. Itās one of the oldest strategies in the book.
Thrasympmachus@reddit
100%
andLetsGoWalkin@reddit
Fuck you.
Thrasympmachus@reddit

476845@reddit
Multiculturalism isn't to blame. Amazon and massive companies like them lobbying the government and greedy politicians to lessen workers rights and access to quality jobs that force the lowest in society to be afraid for their position at work, to provide for their families did this. Gullible idiots like you voting for greedy, self serving assholes are the ones to blame. Tarrifs and walls don't seem like they are working, just the same as brexit doesn't seem like it's working. Politicians and business leaders promising crumbs and scraps from their table and making you believe its "the other guys" fault for those promises not materialising is to blame not Multiculturalism.
bloodsoed@reddit
Fuck that you racist piece of shit. I am part polish and Irish. Been here my entire life. There are good foreigners that came here legally and do a better job than any driver from Super Ego or WFX.
Truckers are a lot of cops. You never hear about the good ones that do their job safely and efficiently. You only hear about the ones that killed someone.
PeteinaPete@reddit

Few-Chemical-5165@reddit
Well of your american you do that the country will be destroyed in about three or four days since the infrastructure and the food and everything is already massively distressed. So yeah, go ahead, make your country die quicker. And faster, that way, the rest of us don't have to worry about the bullshit. That's going on down there. Or maybe try to do your best to influence good in your world of trucking, and not vote for the fucking republican party anymore.Because that's what ninety percent of you do down there. You voted for this yet, deal with it
AndromedanPrince@reddit
when a company has the nerve to offer 22/hr for fuel hauling, something needs to be done
Few-Chemical-5165@reddit
Under normal circumstances I would agree. If you do it now, if somehow you managed to organize a nationwide strike. Slowdown or something. You will literally destroy your country very fast very quickly. It's already teetering on the edge of destruction. You may not be able to see it, but I live outside of your country. And I can see it crumbling and dying. If you guys did that, you would accelerate, the death of your country. For months, two weeks, possibly days before you would really, really feel it
AndromedanPrince@reddit
trust i def see it falling apart very quickly. nobody sems to care enough to do anything. just passsively watch and comment on the internet.
Few-Chemical-5165@reddit
Well, there are some democrats in there that are trying to stop this madness from the orange menace. But he'll be dead soon.Anyways, you'll have to deal with vance, which is probably not as bad, because he's not as charismatic. He will not speak to the trumpeters, and they will not want to listen to him. But your country is in deep trouble.
AndromedanPrince@reddit
neither side care about citizens, just lining their pockets. politics here are fake
Few-Chemical-5165@reddit
No, the politics are real and the politicians are human trash. You just have to determine which trash is better for the country And for you. Right now you have trashed at goes straight to the dump. The better politicians, which are the democrats, are recyclables. Better for the environment. But still in the waste category, l o l just a better more healthy choice.

With the current admin in Washington, and the way DJT talks about his hatred towards unions, I have a feeling heād call his buddy Elon and green light AI trucks in a split second. āNah that wonāt happen cause the transportation⦠oh⦠yeah⦠youāre rightā. I know.
Longjumping_Wolf_761@reddit
Elon is gone, needs to right his wrongs
imadestarwars@reddit
Yeah idk about that š Once youāre in, youāre in for life. He fucked up.
Cardinal_350@reddit
AI trucks can't drive in weather. If they could wed all be out of a job. You've never ever seen a video of them driving in anything but blue sky and puffy clouds. We had a guy go in the ditch last year in a brand new Volvo. It slammed on the brakes for nothing like they like to do on an icy highway and ditched him. Company didn't even give him a chargeable after the investigation
Soberg1itch@reddit
Who is they? This idea of a ātrucker strikeā has been tried for decades. Itās never going to happen. Thereās no organized leadership, not many people are willing to sacrifice paychecks to park their truck for no results. Even if somehow you got thousands of truckers on the same page and made some change in commerce then that void would just be filled with illegal drivers and companies.
lothingandfear@reddit
It will never be organized because "that would be socialism" dumb fucks will keep getting screwed as long as politicians can convince them that trying to improve their pay and working conditions as well as keeping illegals and unqualified people out of drivers seats is socialism......
Dezzolve@reddit
Thatās not the reason it will never be organized.
There are no central leading figures in trucking that anyone can trust.
Also, unions work because itās people working together somewhere that know each other and can say everyone there is like minded for the most part in the fact that they have that locations best interests in mind.
Thereās a reason unions are broken into local chapters and trade specific groups.
Not once has there ever been a national union made of millions of people that have never met each other, work different kinds of jobs, work for unaffiliated companies, in vastly different areas.
Those dumb posts on Facebook that tell everyone not to shop at Target on a certain day have more unity and organization than truck drivers.
Severe_Ad_5618@reddit
You are forgetting the teamsters. At one point they covered 70 percent of the interstate truck fleet. They had an agreement called the National Master Freight agreement that covered over 100 companies. The guys that will work for peanuts have killed all but one of those companies. I retired in 2004 at $0.43 a mile.
PontoonDood@reddit
I started in 2005 at 22cpm. Rough.
lothingandfear@reddit
True because politicians have destroyed organized labor. Even if it was run by mobsters at least they could get concessions from big business. Now we live off the scraps the companies give us and we consider ourselves lucky and people keep voting for politicians that destroy labor organizations because they aren't woke or they aren't as bad as Donald yet they screw the working man no matter the party they are in.......

ComplexMaterial6768@reddit
4 more months and I am done.
murkymoon@reddit
"Should" and "can" are two very different things.
Even if we could organize a strike, a lot of drivers prioritize stupid non-starters like revoking ELDs.
The real focus should be on getting everyone hourly pay and overtime after 40. That will shapen up companies, shippers, and receivers really quickly.
Opietatlor@reddit
After a couple decades in the trucking business I can tell you that this kind of talk is just a waste of time. Nothing like this has ever worked when truckers try to organize. There's too many people out there that need to pay their bills. They're going to take the freight that you don't.
A_CA_TruckDriver@reddit
I already quit. Making the same money I was making 13 years ago. Not worth it.
I make better money Towing cars for AAA being home every night.
pmmemilftiddiez@reddit

lleu81@reddit
Just gotta find the right company. Good paying jobs are out there if you look hard enough.
Riyeko@reddit
I stopped driving because it just wasn't the same.
It was too unsafe, loads weren't great, didn't want to be away from home, not enough pay for the work I was doing.... There's other reasons.
But to get truckers to agree on one thing and then act on those thoughts, is harder than giving a wild feral cat a bath.
AutumnBrooks2021@reddit
The common theme I always see, take a job with low pay and little to no benefits then complain daily about it. SMH.
datdudeuheardof@reddit
Our jobs would be filled by even more immigrants immediately, they already make up around 25% of all US truck drivers. Last official number was 18% total in 2021, that was just the start of the invasion at the borders. You think Big Trucking cares about what we think about our pay?
gkjnvgyj@reddit
Thereās no solidarity in trucking. Fear, greed, and incompetence reign supreme in this industry. You or we canāt compete with that.
Get your money before your luck runs out. Forget about the āweā ā āweā donāt pay your bills. Youāre in this for yourself. Focus on the goal and gtfo as soon as you can.
domesticbland@reddit
Iām going to consider how to approach this, but the money now will be worth less later. Falling is faster than climbing imo.
chris-hatch@reddit
I had a buddy argue to me once he knew he would do better under organized labor but didn't like that unions typically contributed to "baby killing demonrats" and doesn't mind earning less money to own the libs
StrugglingGhost@reddit
That's the point where "shit, I need to do my pre-trip". I ain't changing anyone's opinion, and I prefer to engage with those who are at least somewhat close to my level of intellect. My shortly arriving CDL isn't the end goal, it's a step towards my goal.
And at this point, would I LIKE a job that pays shit? No, but shit pay is better than no pay
Over-Improvement-837@reddit
That right there completely illustrates the fear, greed, and incompetence thatās not only a sanewashed POV, but a stance held by many. Again, itās just so fkn tragic itās heartbreaking.
Reddidiot13@reddit

GoBeWithYourFamily@reddit
I think this is called a strike. You can try but I donāt think youāll have great luck.
bloodsoed@reddit
We canāt agree on which company has the best coffee. Do you actually think the drivers could agree on the pay amount.
HipKat2000@reddit
In the 90s, drivers used to talk about shutting down, but if you shut down, you don't get paid. The better idea is to boycott somewhere like NY City - a consumer-driven region that depends on a steady inflow of goods.
That was then. Now, 40% of the industry is foreign drivers who don't care
regularisrare@reddit
Probably 95% of us, but unfortunately, weāll never be organized enough to do such thing
ArchieThomas72@reddit
So I think thereās already a drivers union, the Teamsters.
Socketz11@reddit
It will never happen. Drivers are impossible to organize. Read the responses. All the guys that claimed "I make enough, I am good" dont give a shit about anyone but their own. So count them out. Plus drivers already Unionized have 0 incentive. Too many wont even throw their trash or piss bottles out properly, think they will even pay attention to the when or where? We have all the power, and we are the only job in the country that can literally bring this country to its knees in less than 5 days, but we also have the worst representation and organization skills. We are one of the heaviest regulated and least compensated jobs out there. It will take a lot to get it done, a bandwagon wont work in this case.

How about you read a book or two. About how the ATC protests are immediately (and violently) squashed by the Feds. And how that's exactly what they will do to any protests involving national infrastructure. But hey, that's me forgetting half of yall ACTUALLY can't read.
IBURNERI@reddit
You want better pay, prove yourself, and go find a better company. A decent portion of these "Truckers" nowadays shouldn't be, can't hold a lane, or pay attention to anything until its 10' front of them. They're dangerous enough just pulling a 53', probably hit a few things, and get fired their first year. Those companies I don't believe care about the quality. Their drivers are costing them cents on a 1099 dollar most days until they wreck. The money is out there. You just gotta get to a company that sees your worth. My current ain't perfect, but they take excellent care of us work/life/money, so did my previous company.
CapitanPino@reddit
We can't even get drivers who speak English anymore. So idk what the hell you're on about ššš
Doobius9191@reddit
Convenient side effect of all the imported drivers. Weāll never be able to organize in the U.S. and protect ourselves
NitroBike@reddit

Doobius9191@reddit
I did not say the foreigners are anti union
xDoomKitty@reddit
You aren't gonna convince these America haters that selling off the country piece by piece isn't a good idea.
Doobius9191@reddit
Youāre right the brainwashing is too strong. Some of them are just plain dumb and propagandized. I have some sympathy for them but it lessens everyday.
They claim to hate giant corporations, bankers, and the ultra rich but canāt connect the dots on who the primary beneficiaries are of mass importing foreign labor. Because any rejection of endless immigrant waves means you love tiny mustache man.
xDoomKitty@reddit
Exactly. And they try their fucking hardest to make it about race when it ain't. Americans aren't all white. And non Americans aren't all non white.
Let's take care of our people first. Then we can fucking worry about saving the world from itself.
NitroBike@reddit
Yeah dude I hate America. Thatās why Iām active in my union, trying to get more Americans unionized, trying to get more Americans better healthcare, better rights, and better living standards.
Iām literally married to an immigrant who also has immigrant parents. All three work in medicine, speak multiple languages, have degrees, and are educating themselves constantly. They are saving lives everyday while idiots in here cry about seeing non white people driving trucks.
If they deported every non white person in America, your paycheck isnāt going to magically increase. Those companies are just going to find other excuses to fuck you out of a living wage. But yes convince yourself itās the working class immigrants, not the billionaire business owners, that are ruining your life. Our president just actively destroyed a bunch of federal unions because nobody is stopping him. You think thatās not going to affect the average American like you or I?
You can suck the entire 2 inches of my micropenis from the back
xDoomKitty@reddit

Canāt fix an industry full of stupid people who willingly work against their own interests because their political team has told them somethings bad and they canāt think critically anymore.
p0396@reddit
Why do I need a union when my pay is already well above average for my area, my schedule is good , dispatch is fair, and 3 weeks vacation? Not sure what a Union would bring to the table for me.
yeah-no-yeah-no@reddit
Union could increase your pay from where it is now. Unionized workers wages are 11-32% more than non-Union workers. They increase vacation and PTO days, add a pension to your benefits package, annual bonuses, performance bonuses, add job security, job advocacy & support, parental & family leave, increase your health & safety on the job, create mentorship programs, create fellowship, career development, career recognition, employer-paid health insurance, paid sick leave.
What you have now could be satisfying to your needs, yes, but wonāt the list above improve your life? Do you not deserve more? Is your hard work not worth more?
p0396@reddit
I make the same as UPS linehaul drivers at my current job with good 401k match. Highly doubt a union will get me more than that, since there are only 10 of us on this account and UPS had to go on strike to get the same pay I was already making. So Iām good with my current situation, especially since right now I donāt have to send money to the Sean OāBriens of the world.

1/3 of the teamsters are UPS, and the next 1/3 is public employees and trades. Freight and warehousing are a sinking ship (automation in warehouse and CDLs given to anyone with a pulse), and no start up company in their right mind wants to take more risk by adding a negotiated contract every 5 years. It's a shame that the Teamsters never sunk their chips into developing their own diesel mechanic schools or some trade that had a higher barrier of entry like a CDL license.

This is the exact reason why they keep importing foreigners to drive because theyāll pay these foreigners $500 a week or whatever it is to drive a truck.
My best advice to anybody reading this you can absolutely make good money driving a truck, but you have to go into something specialized .

Try and join a union. At least at my shop, pay is fair, schedule is fair, everything here at this terminal is fair. Took me years to get into but itās worth it
keytiri@reddit
Totally, which is why I chose a company that already does it.
right_lane_kang@reddit
Yes, you all go on strike while rajesh and sukdeep continue to drive
KoiwazuraiAi@reddit
Truckers are notorious for doing everything they can to vote against their own interests.
K-Dog7469@reddit
I am guessing you don't completely understand economics.
Confident_Worker3491@reddit
Nothing to worry about. Youāll soon be replaced with autonomous tractors. You wonāt even be able to get a job fueling them either. They have robots for that too. They have robot systems to load and unload freight too. Learn to be a parts changer in a diesel shop. Thatāll be all thatās left in the transportation industry. A.I. systems are going to take over. You aināt seen nothing yet. While youāre laughing at this post, Iāll be focused on staying ahead of the transition game. Learn all you can about A.I systems or be left behind.
LiberalTroll1976@reddit
Too many of you sit in that truck all day and listen to right wing talk radio tell you that you make too much and unions are bad and billionaires and millionaires know whatās best for you. I donāt want to hear this shit anymore. You guys did this to all of us. Live with it.
gooba1@reddit
Mine thought this dead horse was beat to dust years ago
JankyMark@reddit
Drivers will never do that
ShoddySpace5680@reddit
NOooo not at all they will replace us with flip flops
Opening-Ad-8793@reddit
I think this is true for most sectors of work tbh
U_wind_sprint@reddit
Union membership needs to increase to include most of the truckers working today. Then there's a means of coordination, and a goal that, once met, means everybody returns to work immediately after "negotiations."
DisastrousDance7372@reddit
Good luck getting those guys working for pennies to even understand what you're saying
TemporaryOk9310@reddit
Man im union and even we have some bootlickers
morsule1@reddit
If you are not getting paid well, you need to find a better job or buy a truck. I don't understand how you think that changing the whole market is easier than you taking some risks to improve your own life.
Monlstat7@reddit
I'm doing it already. Once I saw the writing on the wall I jumped. If you are not making the money you "deserve", then go to where they will pay you properly. No need to get the whole group to force their hand, just leave and make it elsewhere.

Iām in. Just say when.

After this trump anomaly with tariffs, my hope is that the market will get back to normal in 2030. It will also shut up anybody who thinks that the gop has any interest in getting rid of non domicile cdl drivers. High tariffs and unfettered non-domicile cdl drivers is the perfect storm for a freight recession and low pay.
Wolf24h@reddit
That's because somehow fighting for your rights is communismĀ

Iām happy with my job and my pay is fair why would I strike?
xdjfrick@reddit
There has been a supposed nationwide truck shut down multiple times a year for last 18 years I'm aware of. I've never seen in actually happen.
derekschroer@reddit
or, you know, find a job that does both? like I did? Walmart btw...
CashWideCock@reddit
Iām happy with my pay and the way Iām treated.

Shitty pay>no pay I got bills to pay
denyskaiser@reddit
Do that and rates pick up slightly, Abdul tells all his friends, they all get CDLs god knows how and rates drop right back into the shitter while youāre sitting there out of a job. Good idea on paper but wonāt ever work in practice until the sink footwasher contingent changes. However low the pay is it still pays more than sitting in a call center pretending your name is Mike Rogers does.
AdMinute3522@reddit
I know a guy from my dadās company, he was told he would be getting payed exactly 1800-2000$ a week. He got 1400$ because āHe didnāt use up all of his driving hoursā, he drove 9 hours instead of 11
HoodHauler@reddit
Hell yea, Iād do it if enough ppl got behind it.
