Preston Hollow: is it safe for a single female?
Posted by vegas_lov3@reddit | askdfw | View on Reddit | 51 comments
I’m 43F and I got a job offer around the area. This will be my first time in Dallas. I am looking to rent a 1-bedroom apartment that doesn’t require me to hop on the freeway to go to work each day but I also like to go jogging on the weekends or maybe go for an evening stroll (weather permitting).
Is it safe enough for women? I didn’t see homeless people when I was there for the interview. I do like that there were nice shops in the area and such.
I appreciate your input!

Who is gonna tell her?
jk. Prob the most expensive and by default safest areas of Dallas.
MeatCrack@reddit
Well, she is looking at a 1 bed apartment, putting her along 75. Which isnt know for its safety…
_______woohoo@reddit
Preston Hollow doesn't touch 75 lol
Bbkingml13@reddit
Not technically. But realtors still call it Preston hollow near Royal/75
_______woohoo@reddit
Relators also say "close to downtown dallas" and be 20 miles away
MeatCrack@reddit
Its loosely the box created by NW Hwy, DNT, 635, and 75
_______woohoo@reddit
Midway to Hillcrest and Royal to NW HWY
ALaccountant@reddit
Well that’s not Preston Hollow, then
biggersjw@reddit
Depends. West side of 75 is safe. East side of 75 not so much. Preston Hollow is a pretty safe neighborhood. I have a friend who lives in a condo off 75 and Meadow Park Drive. Quiet, safe, close to Trader Joe’s and restaurants.
gonzfather@reddit
There are a few down Northwest Highway that are next to joggable neighborhoods
ALaccountant@reddit
Probably the most expensive place in all of Texas, no?
Springpeen@reddit
Preston Hollow is one of the richest neighbourhoods not just in DFW but in the country. Mark Cuban’s house is there. You will be perfectly fine.
tinkerEE@reddit
argued with my girlfriend about this
Just purely on financials it’s not in the top 30.
Scaled by median home prices across the state or whatever then yeah maybe
toodleroo@reddit
TIL that Mark Cuban lives there in fear for his life.
JohntheVenerator@reddit
I’ve lived off Stone Canyon (the much maligned apartment strip at Royal/75) for the last 12 years and it’s been fantastically safe. I’ve never once felt anything but safe.
Far_Seaworthiness765@reddit
Are there apartments in PH??
Nice-Toe-4865@reddit
Yes
ParsonJackRussell@reddit
Preston hollow is 2nd richest area of Dallas - can be crime because criminals love going to Preston Royal Tom Thumb and robbing ladies wearing diamonds and furs
cczamo@reddit
..As well as at Preston Forest Tom Thumb at north end of Preston Hollow, 1 mile n of Preston Royal.
ParsonJackRussell@reddit
So true
SadlyConfusicated@reddit
Man, I'm from Philly. There's no shit anywhere in Dallas that's even close to my definitive of unsafe. Do you know what it's like to dodge bullets and you're not even involved? Do you know what's it like to have to know what color of your clothing to wear or not wear due to gangs? Do you have 20+ floors of apartment projects? Pretty sure no on all these counts. Safe place in my book is anywhere in Big D.
liquidnight247@reddit
Preston Hollow is safe. You’re fine.
_stuxnet@reddit
Isn't that where President Bush lives too? That's gotta be one of the safest area in all Dallas.
MeatCrack@reddit
Sorta. Hes at royal and dnt. Also, not a lot of 1 bed apts in the safe parts of preston hollow
badiban@reddit
I thought he was in Crawford, TX, no?
NoCatharsis@reddit
That is his ranch. My sis in law teaches at Crawford.
MarcoEsteban@reddit
The most dangerous thing about any apartment you might be able to find will be the price. And there aren't many, if any, in Preston Hollow proper. Maybe some rich family will rent you the guest quarters in their mansion?
LibertyProRE@reddit
Even with it being a nice area, I would still recommend checking this site before making your final decision:
https://www.familywatchdog.us/
ATrueLady@reddit
Nowhere is truly "safe." However, Preston Hallow is probably as good as you're going to get as a female.
What I do recommend is getting an apartment on the second floor or higher that has no windows someone can break into and a door that's heavy. I lived closer to SMU for a while by myself and this is exactly what I did; I picked an apartment that had a heavy door that would be next to impossible to break down and the windows only overlooked below, like there were none you could walk up to.
Radixx@reddit
I ride my bike through Preston Hollow all the time and there are tons of people walking around (including one lady with her miniature pig).
impropergentleman@reddit
I work in the area and I see her all the time.
Waxon23@reddit
Potentially consider something in uptown close to the Katy trail.
Also there are definitely some apartment buildings that claim Preston hollow but aren’t. Feel free to dm me.
Bbkingml13@reddit
I think that depends on if it’s actually in Preston hollow. 90% of the apartments in “Preston hollow” aren’t actually in Preston hollow, and aren’t as safe as Preston hollow.
calm--cool@reddit
Yeah that’s what I would say too, make sure it’s actually Preston hollow.
therealradberry@reddit
You think homeless people are an indicator of safety?
DeeDeeW1313@reddit
Are you asking if one of the most wealthy areas in the state is safe?
oktodls12@reddit
It’s a safe area. For apartments, if you want something super close then I would look near 75 at Walnut Hill/Royal. Depending on budget, there are apartments in Preston Hollow Village that are new. But even if you cross over to the east side of 75 it’s still relatively safe and you can find something that connects to the Lake Highlands trail system. On the east side, you do have to be a bit careful with what you select though, especially if you go south of Walnut Hill.
u2aerofan@reddit
Depends. How much money do you have.
Abster_dam@reddit
About where are you working compared to Preston Hollow?
hiddengem93@reddit
Addison is expensive but safe
_______woohoo@reddit
Addison's property crime rates are not good. Their violent crime rates are fantastic, though.
Someone might try to break into your car but nobody is gonna hold you at gunpoint for it there.
nomnomnompizza@reddit
If someone isn't safe there it's because a nuclear bomb dropped on Dallas
AverageTF64@reddit
or a tornado came through >__<
PerilousAll@reddit
They probably have some kind of tornado trapper device keeping their community safe.
AverageTF64@reddit
it mustve been installed after 2019 lmao
currently_distracted@reddit
It’s very safe. Enjoy the area.
Texan2020katza@reddit
Super safe.
Sensitive-Speed427@reddit
Yes, absolutely
Ball-tick_Sea@reddit
Safe, quiet, very nice. You'll enjoy living there.
Odd-Medium-9693@reddit
You're blessed!! Congrats 🎉
RealtorReichert@reddit
You will be fine.
