Hi, I am a university student studying computer engineering i always wanted to learn it and develop games etc. by my own but thanks to our universitys lack of quality of lessons i learned almost nothing and i lost motivation. I also failed the lecture. Can someone be a mentor to me so i can learn C and C# and then maybe more? Any social media is okay for me i just want to learn and improve myself. Thank you

The lectures aren’t really supposed to teach you, they’re review for the self learning you do before class (usually following a text book).
For C I like Effective C, read it a few months ago and like it.

Yeah you are right but arent lectures supposed to motivate you too? Our first teacher lacks communication so much that we had hard times trying to understand what is she talking about. Our introduction to programming class was English and she had difficulty speaking both our language and the language of the class. She also used very old sources and she was just reading the slides and wasn't doing anything else. We were also deprived of practical lessons. I barely passed the introduction but i lacked skiils and lost motivation and that caused me failing the programming class in spring semester. I finally have the will but i dont know what to do.

Unless it’s a top tier teaching university most professors are more interested in doing research & publishing papers.
Teaching is just something they’re forced to do. Additionally many have never worked in the industry.
All this ends up with rather unmotivated classes. Every now and then you get a really great one, but it’s more the exception.
I feel your pain, sometimes retaking with a different professor makes a huge difference.

for reYeah and the worst part is that i had the chance to switch colleges but i failed just one class and i thought my chances are over but some universities still accepts students even they failed 1 or 2 classes but my gpa is 2.75 with one failed class and the other students who applied the same universities with me had at least 3+ gpa. So i couldnt apply and i have to stick one more year in there.

What is your first language? And where is your university?
mr_kirbac@reddit (OP)
Turkish. I prefer to keep this university information private.

I can respect that. US university professor here. Love to help all students but I only speak English.

I have an intermediate level of English and our class is in English too. I would be very happy if you could help me.

Mentor yourself by reading C or C# docs or use AI to ask things that you don't understand in reading those docs. AI is a good search engine.
grantrules@reddit
I'd grab a book or two and work through those.

Are physical books still effective while we have internet or? Also, if anyone can teach me this, even better. Like an unpaid internship.
grantrules@reddit
Of course, why would the internet render books ineffective?
mr_kirbac@reddit (OP)
I think books lost interest, which is very sad. I could give them a chance but i would prefer getting lessons from someone as i said.
cib2018@reddit
You mean someone like your professors?
mr_kirbac@reddit (OP)
Yeah, kinda. Someone who can teach and skillful at this. Those who do this work individually
cib2018@reddit
Like a university tutor?
mr_kirbac@reddit (OP)
Yeah that could be.
grantrules@reddit
Well, good luck with that!

Thank you!

As another person said, if you want to learn C, you can get a book on C and then go through it. etc.
