ATP-CTP: Should I Bother?

Hey all! Yet another post asking for career advice here. I have my R-ATP minimums and am currently looking for a job. I have an interview "lined up" with Skywest, but they are saying 6-8 months for an interview and an additional 6-8 months thereafter for a class date. I also had a phone screening with AirShare, but they are booked out on interviews through at least the end of the year. I do hear that Envoy and possibly NetJets are hiring, but require ATP-CTP and written. So I guess my question is: would it be worth the \~$4000 for a shot at either of the two? Can anyone tell me if they are still actually hiring/will still be hiring in the 2-3 months it will take to get an ATP-CTP class scheduled and completed?
Miserable_Team_2721@reddit
I think you should focus on building the hours before doing the ATP-CTP. In my opinion, having an R-ATP is almost useless in this job market. There are tons of 1500+ hour pilots out there available.
Si11y-g00se@reddit
I held off on doing my ATP-CTP for MONTHS because I was afraid it wasn’t worth the investment. I’m at 1300 TT with about 400 turbine. I had a friend write me an internal letter of rec and it took about 3 weeks to get back to me asking for an interview which is scheduled in October. It might land you a gig, it might not but not having it definitely will not help you. Things are ramping up. Not how it was in 2021 but we all know the stats. It’s not hopeless anymore. Do what you can to make your resume better.
DOUBLE_DOINKED@reddit
I would make yourself more marketable until you’re at your dream job. No reason to limit yourself if you have the means to get the ATP knocked out. At least get the written IMO.
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
Gotta take the ATP CTP course before getting the written. Can’t just take the written.
DOUBLE_DOINKED@reddit
True, I said he should get the full ATP and at least the written done implying that yes, he should do his atp-ctp.
Numerous_Tie3013@reddit
No. Don’t spend your money on something all those companies will pay for.
rudiiiiiii@reddit
Bro still thinks it’s 2022
Numerous_Tie3013@reddit
Mine was included in the onboarding this year
rudiiiiiii@reddit
Yeah sure if you are going to most regionals they still pay for it but many places won’t look at you if you don’t have the written done nowadays (Atlas, NetJets, Kalitta, etc).
Numerous_Tie3013@reddit
Great. Of those you mentioned he only asked about nj and they have much stricter hiring mins. As of today skw and envoy still include the atp/Ctp and written as part of their onboarding.
cbph@reddit
Netjets mins are the same as your regional, at least on paper.
rudiiiiiii@reddit
Great - so my comment is relevant since he asked about NetJets
Have a great day buckaroo
Numerous_Tie3013@reddit
Bro ended up agreeing with me 😂🤡
rudiiiiiii@reddit
Your low level of reading comprehension doesn’t bode well for your upcoming class. You said “all companies pay for ATP-CTP”. One of the primary companies he asked about was NetJets, and they do not pay for ATP-CTP. Which is why you are being downvoted.
Best of luck with everything my guy
Dependent-Place-4795@reddit
Atlas and Kalitta require full ATP do written won’t mean anything
rudiiiiiii@reddit
True
cbph@reddit
That's no longer true.
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
They’re starting to not pay for it anymore. Why would they? It’s a buyers market not a sellers.
Numerous_Tie3013@reddit
He specifically asked about atp/ctp and written. It’s included in the onboarding at every regional. Maybe not netjets but they also have stricter hiring minimums.
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
There are some regionals that have it as a hard or soft requirement now, because they can save a ton of money. Idc to look up which ones do, but why would they hire someone without it when there isn’t a shortage of people that do that it?
I have my example because having it made something happen, whether it was for the regionals or not.
NoConcentrate9116@reddit
This is bad advice
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
Within 4 hours of updating my NetJets application showing I completed my ATP written (which the ATPCTP is required prior to) I get an email saying they want an interview, just fyi.
oranges1cle@reddit
Glad you finally got an interview, I remember you from every hiring thread. You were fixin to hang it up.
What airplane do you have multi turbine PIC time?
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
I kind of did hang it up. I almost never flight instruct anymore because I couldn’t afford to, and I quit my main job paying the bills because I was getting so exhausted working 3 jobs across 7 days a week that I was having severe brain fog issues. I’m cashing in my retirement to supplement my income now.
I’d walk into a room and just forget what I was doing like I was permanently stoned, and I was having trouble doing basic things. It was especially rough having to get up at 3am for one of the jobs after an entire weekend working in the heat.
And a king air.
ATrainDerailReturns@reddit
Do you have turbine time
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
800+ multi turbine pic
ATrainDerailReturns@reddit
God damn
good for you mate best of luck
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
Thanks.
Dr_Barbeque@reddit (OP)
Best of luck on the interview man! Thanks for the info
JustAnotherDude1990@reddit
If you have a GI bill, deltas course is covered.
Dependent-Place-4795@reddit
NetJets isn’t going to hire a R-ATP mins guy either no turbine experience
MehCFI@reddit
Sweet spot for hire rn as I was told from my interviewers is around 1500 TT, 500 turbine, 135 experience, unrestricted ATP in hand not just written.
MenRest@reddit
It’s not going to hurt you, I can tell you that much
clearingmyprop@reddit
Yes without a question pay for it. Only reason I got my airline job as it was a requirement
ScaryDepartment5923@reddit
Will it make you more marketable? If yes then do it. It’s good for 5 years anyway.
discgolfpilot@reddit
It won't hurt, and it might or might not help.
Just like you don't want to spend the 4k the company doesn't want to either. NetJets and most regionals will require it.
Dr_Barbeque@reddit (OP)
Thats what I’m thinking yeah. Appreciate it!
BobLoblawATX@reddit
I finished my full ATP unrestricted license and not a single regional has called me in months.
Anthem00@reddit
It doesn’t guarantee anything, but those that require it aren’t going to interview you without it. So it’s whether it’s worth it to you to even have a shot to get in the door.
