So basically as the title saysđ
Private hospital which has been open for about 2, years,.
I have worked here since before the building was anywhere near opening. Started as a apprentice, then just support and now Sus admin.
Brough all the tech into the building, all systems onboarded etc...
Just really wanted to gloat a little after all the hard workâď¸đ

Being sysadmin wonât help you escape helldesk, my friend. Congrats though.
Deodedros@reddit
Ope how do I escape help desk then? Currently in that position and looking to not be anymore. I applied to sysadmin for another company but if what you say is true im a bit worried lmao
Raymich@reddit
I donât know. Just got promoted to systems engineer, but still stuck with tickets or acting as an SME for anything Microsoft or Apple⌠that includes guys from SE, SWE, SRE, and even on-prem customer setups.
sync-centre@reddit
I thought this one was going to be I took down production posts.
Regardless, Congrats!
SpotlessCheetah@reddit
That'll be tomorrow.
Real-Patriot-1128@reddit
That is a great experience to earn your way into your role. Congrats and best of luck.
Recalcitrant-wino@reddit
Congrats! Welcome to hell.
iamLisppy@reddit
Here is some advice: block out your lunch on your calendar and have that time be for YOU. As in actually put it on your calendar and make it recur everyday... forever.
frustratedsignup@reddit
Yes. I will second this advice. I've had 11am to 4pm blocked out for at least one day/week on my calendar for years now. If you allow everyone to invite you to meetings all day, you'll never get anything done.

ManâŚnow I need to hop on LinkedIn again and keep searching. Good luck.
Altruistic-Map5605@reddit
God I would love to be an admin for a new place. Everything fresh and the way I like it.
Mr-ananas1@reddit (OP)
Hell yhe brother, new guy Nepo baby tried changing a bunch of stuff, broke them, lost most his rights
Altruistic-Map5605@reddit
Hehe also strict well thought out policy would be top of that list so new guys couldnât hurt my baby.
Mr-ananas1@reddit (OP)
That's the plan next, firstly a AI policy cause of GDPR patient info being handled by everyone, next IT access
mohosa63224@reddit
I'm not against writing policies, but maybe you should block all that crap from being accessible in the first place. Ya know, as a just in case.
Extension-Ant-8@reddit
Great. Now test your backups.

Congrats thatâs a huge jump especially building everything from the ground up. Nothing feels better than seeing your work running in production every day.
MrSpof@reddit
Congrats!
badaccount99@reddit
Congrats. I was a sysadmin at 18 years old. It's a title, not a reality. And every company is different, especially in health care. Be careful.
Now, many years later I'm doing more helpdesk work than ever. Just for developers now and it's so much worse because they all think they know more than me and my team.
LankToThePast@reddit
Congratulations! Iâm happy for you!
E1337Recon@reddit
Congrats! Thatâs a huge accomplishment you should be very proud of. Now that youâve gotten the title though donât think that means itâs smooth sailing from now on. Always be curious and never stop learning.
Mr-ananas1@reddit (OP)
Ofcoursee, next up is a management roleđâď¸

ih8karma@reddit
Welcome! But in your description you say you're a sus admin? So is all the work you do sus or do you look out for sus stuff?
Mr-ananas1@reddit (OP)
LOOOL thankyou XD
MFKDGAF@reddit
Is it just a single hospital? How big is the IT department?
Mr-ananas1@reddit (OP)
Me and 2 other guys, currently a small hospital with 4 theatres, but we will be expanding to a form of health village. Dentistry, opticians etc
codephilipyt@reddit
congratulations! would you mind sharing what your day to day live looks like as a sys admin now?
Mr-ananas1@reddit (OP)
Same as it has for a while now. I'll handle any major issue that the 1st line guy is unsure about. I'll handle anything new coming onto our patient admin system. Manage and monitor the connection between our diagnostic equipment (MRI, CT , ultrasound etc) and our PACS ( image store server). Handle any larger changes requested by our senior leadership or management. Bring in new equipment or softwares and making sure they work from start to finish, e.g. pulls patient info from system X, uploads it to y, and sends back to X
Kinda stuff like that, but really anything IT related ends up with me
codephilipyt@reddit
sounds great! good luck, I also want to get into the field, im currently a full stack webdev. What would you say is one of the most important skills to become a sysadmin?
Blehninja@reddit
Learn networking properly, CCNA level should be fine. Get a good grasp of virtualisation of servers and then just general troubleshooting. A lot is learning by doing.
Mr-ananas1@reddit (OP)
Learning, I'm always learning something new. When I started as a apprentice I just knew how to put together a pc, each time something new comes in I end up learning how to use it.
I'm not sure how close web dev is to sys admin, at most I do powershell scripting rather than coding. Each sys admin is different though I imagine, especially with all the different Sass programs being used, and different environments
