Best sushi no budget

Anniversary dinner for my wife and I. She blessed me with a now 3 month old perfect son. Fuck the budget. What’s the best in Plano or nearby (within 20 min driving)?
kevntao@reddit
We love Ebesu in downtown plano
AssignmentSecret@reddit (OP)
Did you like it better than Uchiko? Why ?
sienrfsh@reddit
Uchiko is more instagrammy and less focus on the food imo
Ok_Statistician643@reddit
Spot on. Totally disappointed by food quality and huge prices. Otho like the sister restaurant Uchi
kevntao@reddit
We don't not like Uchi, been going since the original was the only one in Austin. But Ebesu just hits different. Uchi is imo more American tailored. Ebesu holds to a more traditional japanese sushi flavor and passion.
mar_floof@reddit
Having eaten at both, EBESU is the way. The flavor is better, and the experience is just…. Unreal, especially if you order one of their prefixed menu experiences. Each course builds, and you’re cooking your own wagu beef on hot lava rocks…
And you don’t always need reservations. We walked in on my birthday a few years back and were able to get a table for 2 without a wait. Admittedly it was mid-week but it happens
pmyaznoods@reddit
We enjoyed Ebesu a lot and my Asian wife had lived in Japan for a while so knows which is good. But, we have not tried Uchiko.
jesuisunvampir@reddit
I truly enjoyed uchiko and I think its a solid place
Csharp27@reddit
Yea, Ebesu is one of the best restaurants in DFW. Chef was a James beard award finalist and it was named #32 on the best places to eat in the country by Yelp(so take it with a grain of salt but still impressive).
Shoot2ill@reddit
It's not the best but definitely the most expensive.
DJGreenMan@reddit
+1 for EBESU
Jealous-Friendship34@reddit
I almost hate to second this because you need reservations to get in, but EBESU is the best restaurant in Plano.
Ok_Statistician643@reddit
Uchi
chamilton41@reddit
tei an dallas -- no other correct answer
Swampy_Smith0891@reddit
I think Tei An is the best restaurant I've ever tried. Omakase here is killer. But, it is a drive from Plano.
aek82@reddit
Also its sister restaurant, Tei Tei
JacksonDWalter@reddit
Their cornflake shrimp is so good.
jesuisunvampir@reddit
I love tei an but its not as sushi forward at other restaurants suggested on here Defenetly better than Uchi
thecastortroy1991@reddit
Sushi Bar ~ Grandiose Experience all around.
Hatsuyuki ~ Tremendous flavor and creative hand-rolls
Dozo Sushi ~ if you want to just feast at home without sacrificing quality.
r00kTX@reddit
Ebesu
coolrodion89@reddit
Kinzo was really good, even better than Tatsu
Business_Article5656@reddit
i can't believe no one has said Namo...
Due-Appearance8130@reddit
nah
Clear_Audience_3247@reddit
Ebesu
NUNYAA@reddit
Sushi Sake and it’s not close
Puzzleheaded_View225@reddit
It is great, but I wouldn't want to share a table with strangers for an anniversary dinner.
Krpitzner@reddit
I’ve eaten there many times and my wife and I have never shared a table with strangers unless we choose to sit at the sushi bar.
Puzzleheaded_View225@reddit
How’d you manage that??
Krpitzner@reddit
After thinking about it more, usually we choose to sit at the sushi bar unless we’re going with a larger group of people because we enjoy watching the chef prepare our food in front of us.
Krpitzner@reddit
Sushi Sake in Richardson is the underrated GOAT.
Texan2020katza@reddit
I agree!
LilShaver@reddit
My fav is

WONKO9000@reddit
Sushi Bar in downtown Dallas. Omakase service for nine diners. Amazing sushi--best I ever had--but kinda pricey.
Connect_Waltz_2940@reddit
Sushi bar at the adolphus hotel in Dallas! Amazing experience. Only seats about 10 people, it’s a speakeasy vibe with 17 courses.
We’ve also been loving uchiko but we’ve nailed down the way to do it. The happy hour menu is way better than the regular menu. If you go for dinner the omakase is the way to go! It changes every week but always delicious.
Yujo in frisco is one of our favorites for handrolls and nigiri. Never disappoints.
Ebesu in downtown Plano is also amazing.
krnDirk@reddit
The answer is simply Tatsu. That was the answer premichelin and still
LaLa762@reddit
I can't believe Masami https://www.masamirestaurant.net/ hasn't come up.
Fantastic, and they serve sake in the traditional wooden cups. Absolutely worth checking out.
ForagedFoodie@reddit
The wait list is usually 3-6 months out but if you want to start planning for next year, consider Keiichi in Denton.
LaLa762@reddit
Cosign. You'll have to schlep more than 20 mins, and a reservation is HARD to get, but this place?
Legend.
adieu_cherie@reddit
I moved to the DFW area last year for college, so I haven’t gone around much, but I treated myself to Yūjō Nori in Carrollton in May for my 21st birthday. I think it was pretty good.
TheRamblerJohnson@reddit
Richardson has Sushi Sake. It is the best I've had.
Accomplished-Bug4327@reddit
Nobu in Dallas or Keichii in Denton
You’ll have to make reservations pretty far in advance at Keichii but it’s worth it
I think Nobu is better than Uchii
jalapenos10@reddit
Completely disagree on nobu over Uchi
Accomplished-Bug4327@reddit
Idk, maybe I should try Uchi again but I just didn’t get the hype
Altoid27@reddit
Seconded on Keichii. My favorite sushi in town but you do have to jump through a few hoops to get a reservation.
Grab dinner there then walk over to The Square for a nightcap at Paschall Bar.
SportingDirector@reddit
I like Thai's Thumbz. Always great service, food always hits, and clean, etc.
But I am but a young man so maybe people with more exploration would know
satanchu_@reddit
If Deep Ellum isn't too far, Nori Handroll bar is incredible, as well as Tatsu if course.
BettyFosterRamsey@reddit
Musume. They have one downtown and at the Star. We went to the downtown location for my brother’s birthday this year and it was incredible.
greens11@reddit
Tatsu in Dallas
Kinzo in Frisco
Both are phenomenal.
DragonfruitOk4329@reddit
Ebesu in Plano center without a doubt
EnvironmentalLuck515@reddit
Simons Sushi is our favorite sushi place. Get the BTS.
dnarevolutions@reddit
People have already suggested Nobu and Uchi so I’ll suggest Hanakin for a regular restaurant or Tatsu Dallas for a more private omakase experience.
littlelady228@reddit
Kotta in Frisco
Dopeboyfreshhh@reddit
It’s in Dallas but sushi Kozy was one of the best sushi meals I’ve had in the Dallas.
jnwebb0063@reddit
You’re a good partner
DueSavings45@reddit
Hatsuyuki Handroll bar in Frisco is some of the best sushi I've had, maybe ever. The menu is pretty much all raw tho, so if you want some cooked items you may want to go elsewhere.
pewpewwww@reddit
This place is hands down our favorite place in the area. No reservations but show up before they open 4:45pm-4:50pm and you’d have no issues. Menu is what’s fresh and once they’re out of an item they’re out. I whole heartedly agree this place slaps.
kausbose@reddit
How is Tatsu not on this list if money is not an objection. It's a "true experience" of a sushi tasting menu. It's only fish, because that's how sushi is supposed to be. Getting in is a challenge, but highly recommended.
pewpewwww@reddit
I’ve been about 5 times before they got their star. It wasn’t too hard getting a res but now it’s probably a lot harder. Also I went the day before the star was announced and it was sadly not as good as before. After they got rid of their bar side and started two seatings with the chefs split something has been just a little off. Amazing owners though and would still recommend anyone try at least once.
solotroop@reddit
Uchiko or Ebesu hands down
wbd3434@reddit
Oishii
solotroop@reddit
The oishii off Wycliff is good, the one in Plano is a 6.5/10
nounthennumbers@reddit
Underrated choice. Maybe not the fanciest but definitely worth every penny.
crazydogs74@reddit
Densetsu! On spring creek and edoko sushi and robata in cityline in Richardson!
mar_floof@reddit
See I fell since Covid the quality has just cratered. Last 2 times we have eaten there the wife has felt queezy afterwards.
aek82@reddit
Kessaku
Its a bit further than 20 minutes, but the Thompson Hotel in downtown Dallas has a sushi bar on the very top floor that lets you view the downtown skyline. Its more of a after hours sushi bar than a restaurant on weekends. If you visit on the weekdays, its usually not that busy and can be a great night out.
lov3you3000@reddit
Hatsuyuki handroll bar opened a location in Frisco is amazing but Uchi and Uchiko is also great and fancier ambiance. There’s also Tatsu (may not be 20 minutes) but they are the only Michelin star restaurant in Dallas.
sydly96@reddit
Seconding Hatsuyuki!!! My husband and I have gone a couple of times now and it’s incredible. Before, I would have said Uchi was my favorite, but this has knocked it out of first place. No reservations, they only accept walk-ins, but we’ve usually had good luck by eating earlier.
Also suggest stopping by Heritage Table or Eight 11 Place nearby afterwards for dessert/or drinks if you have time!
Kindly-Might-1879@reddit
We love Sushi Sakana at Parker/Custer.
Or try the tiered buffet at Sushi Masa, also excellent.
frogman972@reddit
Kinzo omakase
peacelovetacos247@reddit
Kai at legacy west
Spare-Transition-771@reddit
Kai is definitely more for mixed drinks
peacelovetacos247@reddit
Also, I haven’t been yet but I’ve heard great things about Kinzo in Frisco.
sisterfunkhaus@reddit
Simon Sushi just on quality. Sushi Sake in Richardson is also fantastic and a little fancier than Simon.
acaii@reddit
Uchiko, Uchi
AssignmentSecret@reddit (OP)
Did uchi in Dallas lat year. She liked it 😅
AssignmentSecret@reddit (OP)
Went with Uchiko. Going omakase. 🙏
BeeGeeEh@reddit
Go full omakase if you can. Yujo Nori in Carrollton has a good set. I think Uchiko does too.
