Morgan Out Island 41 - pros/cons

I know any boat (well, most any boat) can cross an ocean. I know - I have crewed on them, and captained them. But what are the pros and cons of a Morgan Out Island 41? Pros-good tankage for water and fuel, plus large HP engine; cons- built for the charter trade. What do YOU think?

Great if you’re going to live at a dock. Not great if you’re looking for a true sailing boat. I hate when people call it a “blue water boat”. It’s not!

I agree except for the 50k blue water miles on hours.

I've sailed and liked them. It seems to be a solid, forgiving boat. I don't like the size. Too big to single hand and maintenance costs seemed high. As to it not being a blue water boat, I've seen them in ports in Australia, Greece, and England. How did they get there?

I tried to be impressed with the Morgans, but aside from a lovely 32’ that I surveyed very closely, I haven’t seen a lot to pull me away from my search for the perfect Catalina.

I have a Morgan 32 and it's a tank. (in a good way)

Yes, it’s a lovely boat.

I own a Morgan 32. (not an Out Island). I've found the build quality to be excellent and I trust it in almost any conditions. I've been on a few Out Islands and don't really feel any similarity when stepping on. Of course the designers were different and they were completely different purposes. I feel like the Morgan company made a good boat but the Out Islands have been the red headed step child. Everything mentioned here is true. I had an owner describe it best to me once and it's always stuck with me. "I you want to tack, be prepared to turn on the motor."

Loaded they don’t go to weather worth a damn

Morgan Hotel 41. (Charley built good boats.) On the flip side, sailors generally spend 90% of their time at anchor or tied to a dock, so expect to be the host more often than not.

HaHa! Yeah, I know - just remembering the Bahamas

They're the Ford Econoline of the sea: Cheap, easily maintained, slow.
They don't point the best. They aren't pretty. But I've seen absolute POS Morgan OIs refitted and put back into service.

Don't mind slow - though have to watch the weather. I need to find out the bottom layout - keel and rudder arrangement. Thanks!
