Down to 2 apartments, and I’m struggling to choose between Oak Lawn vs. Lower Greenville

I (25F) am moving from Canada to Dallas for work starting October. I toured so many apartments and narrowed it down to the Alton in Oak Lawn and the Ele in Lower Greenville. I have absolutely no clue how I’m going to choose between the two, and since I’m relatively new I’d like to see if anyone has any advice on the neighbourhoods themselves or has heard anything about either of the properties?
The Ele in Lower Greenville location was absolutely AMAZING. But the downfall for me here was that the property unit was a lot smaller, and the finishes of the place seemed really dark and a little gloomy for me so I’m not sure how comfortable I’d be in that layout of the unit either. The staff were so amazing and kind.
The Alton in Oak Lawn seemed like it didn’t have much around it compared to the Ele but the unit finishes were a lot more my style and it was bigger and felt more comfortable for me. It’s a bit more on the pricier side, but it’s doable for me. Staff seemed friendly as well. The one thing i asked about was if you can hear noise from neighbors and the guy told me sometimes yes because it’s build on wood between the floors vs. the Ele is cement.
I am absolutely STUCK between this decision. Please if anyone has any advice/perspective I would greatly appreciate it!!

I’d go with my gut feeling and where my body feels most comfortable. You can always uber to lower Greenville to go out but you only have one sanctuary to come home to and refuel.

Also which one is closer to work. Dallas traffic is a bitch during rush hour.

If you are lgbtqia+, choose oak lawn. That's where the gayborhood is.

I would choose Lower Greenville!

I’m older than you (36f) but I’ve lived in Lower Greenville (vue) and uptown both and I’d pick the Alton. I prefer it over in uptown/oak lawn over LG. :) good luck with your move.

The Alton is the superior property in terms of management and maintenance by far. Much better managed than Ele and very well kept. The only advantage Ele has is location since Lower/Lowest Greenville rocks, but being in Uptown still means access to a lot of amenities like Trader Joes, Katy Trail, tons of restaurants, etc.
I like Ele fine there are far worse properties even within a mile of it, but it really is luxury pricing without the luxury, while Alton is luxury pricing with actual luxury.

The downside of lower greenville is that you have to deal with all the traffic on 75 way more often. Its so annoying to have to use 75 to get to/from lower greenville. The Alton is also very new and better location IMO.

Always go with cement slabs and walls if you can for noise reduction AND much lower utilities bills. Are you not already working with an Apartment Locator? I sent you a DM to connect and help you further.

Perhaps look into other complexes near Lower Greenville.

Also moved from Canada to Dallas. I’ve lived all over DFW. At your age, you’d probably enjoy living in lower Greenville more than Oak Lawn

Both are great areas, I’d live in either. The Alton is walkable to Eatzi’s and the gay bars on Cedar Springs other than that you’re a very short drive to uptown, amenities/building are pretty great for the price. I’m biased to lower Greenville myself but haven’t toured The Ele, you’re walkable to more restaurants/bars there and the vibe overall is a lot more casual, less pretentious. I find East Dallas/Lower Greenville to have more community and more of a neighborhood feel.

I’d choose Oak Lawn. I couldn’t imagine living in a gloomy apartment. Depressing. I need sunlight.

Maybe gloomy is a bad word choice here… it’s just more grey/black finishes vs. natural wood/white finishes I’d usually go for. There were good windows in both too

Then go with the inexpensive one. Especially in this market.

Both areas are great. No bad choice here. Lower Greenville gives you much easier access to the city in all directions whereas in Oak Cliff you’ll have to cross through at least a bit of downtown to get anywhere.

She said Oak Lawn, NOT Oak Cliff.

Oak Lawn =\= Oak Cliff
