I was having this exact conversation with a friend that’s in his 20s the other day, I was like dude, you just fucking hurt for no reason after you turn 40, you get punished just for sleeping maybe an inch too much to one side
I spontaneously develop frozen shoulder with no prior injury. Dr’s say it’s linked to my Hashimoto’s disease. I’m in the thawing stage on my left side right now and it’s been super fucky because I’m also going through a breast cancer diagnosis on my left and everyone wants me to raise that arm over my head at appointments and it’s no can do. I have radiation scheduled to start in a few weeks and one of the side effects is frozen shoulder so I’m hoping it doesn’t set me back on recovery.
Damn I’m sorry to hear this. My wife just beat lymphoma, so you have my sympathies both as a care provider and a sufferer (but only in frozen shoulder). I hope for a speedy recovery for you for both things. Sending the best vibes for you to fight off that cancer. Don’t be afraid to ask for the help you need in this time. Your only job right now is to heal. 🫶
Thank you, it’s much appreciated! Fortunately this week I heard back from pathology that they think they removed it all so radiation and medication for me but the prognosis is really good.
Developed frozen shoulder in my left shoulder in spring of 2021. PT was great for it, though I was only approved for six weeks of it. It took probably a solid year to get my full range of motion back
I did 2 months of PT with no improvement. Honestly chiropractic and ibuprofen and taking it easy “fixed” me. I’m about 95% now but it’s been a year since initial onset
Hey everyone, get a load of Mr. Didn’t-Spend-20-Years-Ravaging-Themselves-With-Bad-Food-and-Booze-While-Never-Exercising thinking they’re better than us over here.
Er. I'm 46 and I have none of these problems.
Is this an American diet thing?
Ok my right ankle hurts a little where I fractured it in 97.
And then didn't go to the hospital.
And then went on a walking and activity holiday with my school.
And then went to Florida for 3 weeks.
But I put an elastic bandage on so I fixed it.
More American sedentary lifestyle although diet doesn’t help. I feel like in the US people are one extreme or the other. Meaning some people in their 40’s and beyond spend every moment avoiding exercise and other people embrace it to the point it becomes 100% of their personality. I try to be in the middle
Surprised no one has said, “I sneezed and threw my back out.” So I will say it.
I sneezed and threw my back out. Was working an on-your-feet retail job at the time. My druggie boss didn’t have any muscle relaxers, the asshole. JK, he was awesome (except for that shift).
I hit the gym to avoid these problems. Yesterday at the gym I was doing shrugs, as I have done for 20 years. All of the sudden it felt like a hot knife in my shoulder blade/neck, now I can’t look up
I decided to get up in an awkward position carrying something heavy. Now my knee has been tweaked for several days. I don't know why I did that, I know better
Frozen shoulder was the worst pain of my entire life. I thankfully found an amazing PT and committed to it. 3 months later, I’m pain feee and have 85% motion back.
My daughter calls it old people powers. I can be walking normal and then suddenly my knee hurts and I am limping - and because of her I will go “old people powers activate!”
Use it or lose it. The people around this age I know who are falling apart are doing so because they sit at a desk all day, then come home and sit on a couch all night. Then they go try and do something on the weekend and their bodies don’t work.
On a side note, I’m thankful every day that I didn’t play high school football. A lot of guys I know who did are still messed up from it.
Exactly. Sneak in a long walk whenever you can and/or do some yoga or light resistance training. Do things that require your full range of motion regularly and you’ll be able to move around without injuring yourself just by existing.
Almost 39 and it worries me how much I see people younger than me already having issues that I don't. I can still comfortably sit on a carpeted floor for a bit. Walking and stretching is definitely helpful
Unless you get herniated discs whilst landscaping and then 5 years later its still herniated while you beg for some help. Def cannot sit on the floor, 5 years ago I was very active.
I feel like I don't really get injured any more than I did when I was younger. I am pretty active, and am actually more flexible than I was when I was a teenager, I realized I needed to keep up with stretching, so that's probably helped. Still don't get hangovers either though.
I was thinking the same thing. 43, my knee only briefly hurt earlier today because I tripped when I was distracted by a cute dog while running. I walked it off and felt fine by the end of the block.
This was me a few years ago. Then my lung spontaneously collapsed, I had three surgeries, and now my whole body hurts all the time. I drink water all day, go to the gym 3 times a week, and walk my dog an hour a day. Doesn’t do shit.
My left shoulder has been popping in and out since I was a teenager. What was once a party trick is less fun and more “guess I’ll be popping ibuprofen for the next week” instead.
Earlier this summer, I fell off my bicycle and landed square on my shoulder. I had a sore shoulder for a week, and I felt lucky I didn’t have anything more. Then some nights I’ll sleep “wrong” and won’t be able to turn my head for a few days. Go figure.
This made me laugh so hard. I (helped) move exactly one piece of furniture today. I remembered to lift with my legs. My legs are my strongest but because I walk and chase the kids and can hold a squat for longer than someone half my age.
Yeah this is me now. I was just at the grocery store and had my head down reading something and someone walked past me really really close and it spooked me and I yanked my head up to fast and I heard a crack. I’m gonna be feeling this for the next few days lol
Also, people have no sense of personal space anymore.
I didn't have an accident and all of a sudden I can't walk right!
IDK what frozen shoulder is, but I identify 💯 with this video!!!! Unfortunately......
Seriously though, wtf is up with the shoulder thing?! My right is destroyed from sleeping on it eight months ago. I'm legit terrified my left is going to go all primadonna on me because I rolled over onto it in just the wrong way.
There was this time in college where we signed up for intramural baseball and decided to practice for an hour and none of us practiced for at least five years and despite slowly warming up our arms with light catches, all our throwing arms were shot for a few days. And that was our early 20s.
