Anyone who says Showgirls is wrong. Nearly all of Verhoeven’s movies are “bad” in a certain sense, but he had a distinctive style in which the wooden acting was part of it. He was making high-satire.
Mario didn't have a franchise yet to doom. You either need success first, or whatever deamonic radioactive virgin blood chocolate chip cookies Sharknado has.
It was an established video game franchise. Now its almost a parody of itself. "Mario throws another damn party. News at 5."
And sharknado was equal parts b-rate sci-fi and cheesey horror that brings teenage couples to make out. Much like corn i don't think anybody is watching it for the paper thin plot. Thats where the magic is.
i think i saw pest too late in the 2000s after everyone had seen it, i thought people think this is funny?, but i could see 7 years old me liking it. some movies idk if id like in the same way if hadnt seen it as a kid
Sorry, but I’m gonna go with Steel (I will admit I haven’t seen Showgirls). The rest of these are bad, but still fun to watch. Like I actually watched Super Mario in the last year and still found it funny for being so bad.
Oh, it was part of this whole big thing. Shaquille O'Neal was very famously a fam of Superman in the 90s. He has like a Superman tattoo and I think he had a custom badge for his car made that was a Superman emblem. And the '90s also gave us steel, who is very famously the black Superman. So they tried to do some corporate synergy there.
I'm with you on this. Shaq automatically makes it the worst. I still have a crush on Princess Daisy (Samantha Mathis), though these days it's a friend crush rather than a romantic one.
Yeah but it’s not that fun to be on all the time and like it would feel like shit after a week of it and wouldn’t want to talking it for a month or so. I have just no comprehension of how or why you’d want to do so much …. It isn’t that good.
It’s a modified version of a famous quote by Aleksandr Karelin, arguably the greatest Greco-Roman wrestler to ever live, and the guy who Draco was partly based off of:
When asked why he thought he was called that (referring to a biased opinion on his alleged PED use), Karelin noted that: "No one can completely believe that I am natural. The most important drug is to train like a madman – really like a madman. The people who accuse me are those who have never trained once in their life like I train every day of my life.”
I don't see how the two share anything beyond the barest of thematic connections. I would never say that the Street Fighter quote is a "modified" version of that quote.
Who asked for your speculation that Bison's line was modified off this line? Highly doubtful they are not even the same structured kind of phrase. I do not trust your claim especially without any source.
There was an interesting article recently about how it wasn't dismissive at all. The fact that he remembers the day is a testament to his opponent. It want just a day of the week it was a specific one.
I read a very long form article probably 10 years ago now about that movie. The interview de Silva and a bunch of the actors and crew. Really fascinated.
You still refuse to ACCEPT my God-hood? Keep your own God! In fact, this might be a good time to pray to Him. For I beheld Satan as he fell FROM HEAVEN! LIKE LIGHTNING!
Yup. And don't forget,"This is merely superconductor electromagnetism. Surely you've heard of it? It levitates the bullet train from Tokyo to O-SA-KA, it levitates my desk, and it levitates- ME!"
Mario was at least meant to be fun and Nintendo fans were still able to kind-of enjoy it.
But Home Alone 3 gets me visibly angry. I know it came several years after the original(s) and they were just trying to profit off of the name, but more time had to go by before they replaced Kevin with another kid. I would have much preferred like a 16 year old Kevin to whatever the F that was.
Ha I never watched the third! 😂 When I saw it was a new kid my first thought was, "meh cash grab" and forgot about it until your post!!! I kinda want to watch it maybe high and see just how bad it really is.
You'll want to rip your own eyes out afterward. It's like brushing your teeth and then looking at an orange, thinking "I'm a bit peckish. Imma eat this right now." Instant regret and the taste lingers
Funny thing is, they could have done it, too. The family could have gone on vacation, but he could have stayed home to pet sit or whatever. No way they forget him again, but he could have legitimately been home alone and had to deal with the Wet Bandits again
If they did that I’d have hoped for a Scary Movie style send up of the first two. OR go way overboard and give it an R rating and he’s discovered a certain Cookbook and is legitimately torturing the Wet Bandits. Maybe notes of that scene in Reservoir Dogs.
Objectively its the worst, the rest of the movies can be enjoyed in some way (and some were earnestly kinda good - Junior, Showgirls) or so campy they were fun (MK, Steel), but there’s nothing - NOTHING - redeemable about the steaming heap of dogshit that is Home Alone 3.
I remember seeing that as a kid and regretting having eyes
"Is this what grown-ups think Mario is? Or what kids want?" I was so disappointed when i thought I was gonna watch a movie about Mario and got to see... this shit
Man I’ll watch Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Bros and Batman and Robin any day. I’d pick those over any of the new iterations of those movies.
It’s not Showgirls cause I finally watched that for the first time last week. I expected worse and I overall enjoyed it. Only thing annoying about it was Jessie Spano being pissed off the entire movie.
From a box office failure perspective 100%. Now its a, so bad its kind of good situation. Either way more people will say its a good movie than will ever say that about Home Alone 3.
I unironically loved it when it came out. It was a solid mad max like action movie but instead of wasteland: water. Instead of cars: boats. It was fun. Not a cerebral movie and boy was the leading woman a certified cutie. Jet skis and explosions and speed sailing what’s not to like.
Both Waterworld and Mario are redeemed by Dennis Hopper’s performances and have some cool visuals. You can pop either in for a cheesy movie night and be entertained.
I was gonna bring that up. It's a great show, but has anyone under 30 seen or even heard of Waterworld? I'm really surprised they haven't changed it yet.
Street fighter is amazing for Raul Julia alone. Mortal Kombat is an epic film. Home Alone 3 is solid. Junior as well.
I think the bottom tier is Speed 2, The Pest, Show Girls, and whatever that Shaq one is. Based on cover and his acting ability, the Shaq one has to be very bad.
Super mario brothers also as it was on the TV CONSTANTLY and I can't stand that movie to start with, though there are several other stinkers there also
Out of these, speed 2. The rest were at least memorable disasters, so bad that they're good. But I don't see two on here i'd consider the actual worst of the 90's "biodome" and "Son In Law". Why we thought Pauly Shore was funny i'll never know.
The Pest was in the "so bad it's good" territory.. also, I still know the opening rap word for word and sing it way more frequently than is probably healthy.
Haha! Thats awesome though. I haven’t watched in like 20 years, but that opening shower scene is what I remember most! Dressed as a vampire and farting in the shower lol I’m going to have to watch it again now.
Troll 2 is the only answer. With bangin dialogue like, "You can't piss on hospitality! I won't allow it!" after the kid stands up in his chair and pees on the table while they're having lunch. This movie is so bad that there isn't even a troll in the movie. They are all goblins, not trolls. They figure this out after seeing the name of the town, Nilbog, in their rearview mirror. "Nilbog is goblin backwards!" So, so bad!
It's the perfect bad movie. You can't make a movie this bad on purpose. Everyone really believed in what they were doing (except Gina Gershon), and thought they were making fine art.
Batman and Robin is literally the only movie I saw in the theater that was absolute torture to sit through. I zoned out like 30 min in and awkwardly sat there with a couple friends just praying the credits would soon roll.
My friends loved The Pest. I never got it. Also, was pissed about Super Mario Bros overall. For all the things I liked John Leguizamo in, those had to be his worst.
I’ve seen five out of the twelve, so I’m not sure I can chime in.
Showgirls was awful except for the porn parts, but I haven’t seen it since it was on HBO. The Next Karate Kid had that hilarious monks bowling scene and an awesome hawk.
Probably Home Alone 3 because that one just looked awful.
Isn’t the Island of Doctor Moreau considered one of the worst movies of all-time? (Not just the 90s). I feel like I’m an unreliable to judge the worst 90s movies because my age range throughout the 90s was 7-17. I saw Street Fighter in the theaters twice. My friends and I thought The Pest was hilarious.
I saw Speed 2 cruise control with my mother and at one point we burst out in uncontrollable laughter at how ridiculous one of the characters was. I don’t think the other movie goers were happy about it, but that movie was a such a load of crap. At least we got a good laugh in!
All I can remember from The Pest was John Leguizamo's full frontal shower at the start of the movie..me and my teenage friends couldn't stop laughing hysterically.
When I was 9 and Mario Bros. Came out in theaters all the kids loved it. I rewatched it several years ago for the first time in 2 decades, thinking now I'll understand why everyone hates it. I still like it. Don't care if it ain't true to the source material.
I forgot about that movie. I remember that I went to see that with my parents and I was probably 14 or 15 at the time. And it just kept making me mad to watch. Like I left the theater angry that I sat through the whole thing.
I would say most disappointing was Batman and Robin. I walked out of the theater and said to my friend, "I would have had more fun lighting the money we paid for our tickets on fire and watching it burn."
Dude. I recently tried to rewatch The past and couldn't get more than a few minutes into it. I loved it as a kid, but I am not who I was when I was 14. It is just awful.
And Junior was also worse than the Mario Brothers movie.
I had to leave r/cyberpunk because they defended the super Mario Bros movie unironically saying it was brilliant and a quintessential cyberpunk movie. I like the movie, but c'mon.
No way, Super Mario Bros is such a clusterfuck that it circles back to being a charming curiosity. MK Annihilation is the worst POS on this list, and that's saying something.
Mario was the biggest movie theater letdown I've ever experienced. I would have walked out had I not been there with my parents lol. Batman & Robin and Showgirls were both laughably bad. The Pest and Street Fighter were enjoyable, even if they aren't exactly "high art".
But Home Alone 3 takes the cake...it's very existence enraged me from the moment I realized they were making a 3rd movie without Kevin. How dare they? I attempted to watch it with my kid some years back and nearly threw up in my mouth. I realize this is illogical, but it is what it is...There are only 2 Home Alone movies as far as I'm concerned (and the 2nd one is just a retread of the 1st, but at least it's a well done retread)
MK Annihilation. Was a huge fan of Mortal Kombat (first movie was cheesy but fine) and I knew by the trailers the movie was going to be absolute butt cheeks but went to the theater anyway. So so bad. Not even in a fun way. Just bought it a year or so ago (combo deal with the new MK flick and the original) and watched 10 minutes thinking it couldn’t have been as bad as I remembered. Honestly it’s worse than I remember. There’s several crap movies to pick from here but holy hell this one is easily one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
All I know is that the phrase "Dude. I gotta take a major dump, big time!" has been used to announce when I need to make a bowell movement for 30 years.
I always hear this movie get ripped to shreds, but people in my age bracket (young xennial, elder millenial) unironically love this movie. I include myself in this cohort.
It's certainly very different from the Mario Bros games we all know and love, but I think it's a great movie. If you changed the names to something other than the Mario characters and changed the title of the movie, it would probably be considered a classic.
Although released in 2000, the movie "i dreamed of africa" was shot in 99 and was the worst piece of shit movie I have ever seen. My mom wanted to family to go to the movies for her birthday and picked that turd for us to go to.
I've never done it before or since, but we walked out of the theater and asked for our money back. They gave us complimentary passes to come.back and see another.
If you've never heard of this movie, its probably because it only made like 3.70$ at the box office.
I never seen it, but I was told that there was one closeup of Kim Basinger where she had a very visible wad of snot going in and out of her nose, but the post production team was able to digitally remove it.
Soul Man is bad on a whole other level. Straight up offensive. I think it gets an honorary mention since it was shown so constantly on Comedy Central in the 90s.
Ngl, my 2 brothers and I were obsessed with 3 Ninjas - it was schlocky and dorky as hell, and no way could I sit through it as an adult, but it was the best thing ever when I was like 12. Also, Surf Ninjas.
Home Alone 3 was just meh... Speed 2 was definitely bad especially by comparison with the first.
I saw the first 3 ninjas when I was a kid and I thought it was god awful. So having never seen the sequel and the knowledge of how bad the movie it spawned from ill pick that one.
For me it's a toss-up between Showgirls and Home Alone 3. The rest of them might be bad, but at least they're bad in a fun way. (Admittedly, I haven't seen Steel.)

xxPoLyGLoTxx@reddit
Street fighter is amazing for Raul Julia alone. Mortal Kombat is an epic film. Home Alone 3 is solid. Junior as well.
I think the bottom tier is Speed 2, The Pest, Show Girls, and whatever that Shaq one is. Based on cover and his acting ability, the Shaq one has to be very bad.
lospotatoes@reddit
Battlefield Earth, one of the worst movies ever made, was released in 2000, meaning it was made in 1999 so it counts.
Delonce@reddit
Mortal Kombat Annihilation is the worst
mikemdp@reddit
I've seen a LOT of bad movies. But I stepped into "The Pest" in 1997 and still haven't been able to completely scrape it off the bottom of my shoe.
HalfFrozenSpeedos@reddit
Super mario brothers also as it was on the TV CONSTANTLY and I can't stand that movie to start with, though there are several other stinkers there also

Home Alone 3

Speed 2 or Steele the rest all have their place in my childhood.
EricRShelton@reddit
I’ve never seen Steel, but I’ve seen Speed 2 and don’t recall a single redeeming quality.
strider0075@reddit
Out of these, speed 2. The rest were at least memorable disasters, so bad that they're good. But I don't see two on here i'd consider the actual worst of the 90's "biodome" and "Son In Law". Why we thought Pauly Shore was funny i'll never know.
DunstonCzechsOut@reddit
What does anybody have against Junior?

Home alone 3, just because of how awful it was was such a slap in the face in spite of it's two wonderful predecessors.

Showgirls was awful except for the porn parts, but I haven’t seen it since it was on HBO. The Next Karate Kid had that hilarious monks bowling scene and an awesome hawk.
Probably Home Alone 3 because that one just looked awful.

I forgot about that movie. I remember that I went to see that with my parents and I was probably 14 or 15 at the time. And it just kept making me mad to watch. Like I left the theater angry that I sat through the whole thing.
Solo4114@reddit
I would say most disappointing was Batman and Robin. I walked out of the theater and said to my friend, "I would have had more fun lighting the money we paid for our tickets on fire and watching it burn."

MaxPowerrr85@reddit
