This is r/lebowski, not 'Nam, READ before Posting

We Maudes went ahead and added a few more r/lebowski rules (full rules at bottom of post and in the sidebar):

We also wanted to give you newcomers a little history lesson as to why these rules exist, and in English too, so you can die with a smile on your face.

Way back in 2010 there was a sub I wanna tell you about, a sub by the name of r/lebowski.

When this here sub was created, before some of you little urban achievers had even seen the movie, it was a quiet little family restaurant, where folks could trade Lebowski quotes and take comfort that low-effort, unfunny posts would be downvoted right off their page.

But times have changed.

Today we have over 120,000 subscribers

To wrap your head around that, consider the following:

Now, as anyone who’s ever subscribed to a hugely popular subreddit knows, they become magnets for karma-farmers.

Karma-farmers have zero interest in adding to a community. They are only looking for upvotes, by any means necessary. And what gets the most amount of upvotes on a massive subreddit? Lazy, circlejerk posts that most people have seen a million times.

Eventually, people get sick of these lazy, unfunny karma-farmers flooding their feed, and they unsubscribe. Most of these mega-subs don’t care, because they get recommended to new users, so the number of folks joining exceeds the folks who are never coming back.

Those subs aren’t family restaurants - they’re shitty tourist traps.

We are NOT gonna go down this way, Dudes.

r/lebowski will be for stuff directly related to the movie: A question about the plot. Your favorite scene or character. An interview with a cast member or a director. A stoned revelation you had about the movie. New shit that’s come to light.

And in order to keep the sub focused on the movie, we Maudes have updated the rules as follows:

  1. No spam (includes T-shirt links)
  2. No AI posts or karma bots
  3. No “This looks like a Vagina” or “Johnson” posts
  4. No screenshots of text messages with scammers
  5. Posts must be relevant to the Big Lebowski Movie
  6. Maudes have the discretion to remove low effort posts as they see fit
  7. No Politics (unless directly mentioned in the movie)
  8. No Facebook/Twitter posts
  9. Report fascists

T-shirt spammers (and their conspiring commenters asking “cool, where can I buy one?”) earn a perma-ban.

Other rule violations get a 3-day ban for first infraction, second infraction…Lord. You can imagine where it goes from here.

Finally, when your post gets taken down, calling us Maudes fascists and whining that you saw a post just like yours not taken down isn’t going to help your cause.

There are hundreds of low-effort posts coming in each week, and unless you and Gilbert submit them to the league (report them) we can’t set aside (remove) the post.

So please DEAR, do your part to keep this a nice family restaurant.

Take it easy, Dudes. Catch ya further on down the trail.
