Should be a fun night.. My wife has been laughing her ass off. This stuff is nasty tasting.
SingleMaltShooter@reddit
So my first time, the doctor just told me to take this stuff the night before. Didn’t go into any detail.
I work nights. A few days prior, I was telling a coworker about how I was working the night before, and was planning on taking it before going in.
Thank GOD my coworker had already gone through this and explained to me what the consequences would be. I told my boss, who gladly gave me the night off 🙄

The Propofol nap is worth every single trip to the toilet.
RuthMaudeJameison@reddit
I wish! Every anesthesia that’s been used on me had an awful side effect. I wake up puking. Every. Single. Time. They’ve tried different kinds with me, but same thing.
Giving_Dad_Advice@reddit
Anesthesia. The only decent sleep this insomniac gets.
Puzzled_Survey_4275@reddit
Same
LetTime9763@reddit
Doesn't work like that for me. I don't wake up rested at all.
paceted@reddit
Me neither - I was awake for the whole thing! The doctor said “meh, that’s how it works with some people…”
Mindes13@reddit
"yeah, your insurance didn't cover anesthesia so we just gave you an extra dose of NyQuil"
Cactusblossom_thg@reddit
Me either - I wake up groggy.
FantasticPear@reddit
BROOOOOOOO it was phenomenal.

Good ole milk of amnesia!
melindagedman@reddit
Is that what that was ?
Scruffy_Nerf_Hoarder@reddit
The last time I felt that good waking up was when I was a teenager.
rufireproof3d@reddit
Hope your wakeup goes as well as mine did. I was happy to find out I'm married. I told my wife she was pretty. Got a lot of brownie points with that one.
EyePotential2844@reddit
I've been under three times, two colonoscopies and an upper endoscopy. Only one time did I wake up feeling drugged, but it wore off pretty quickly. Now when I went under of oral surgery... My whole day was ruined and my wife told me I said things I still don't believe.
nasuS_tsuJ@reddit
The last time I was prepping, I had just completed the last stage of the process, which was the dose of some pill in the evening. My husband hadn’t been feeling well that day, so I urged him to take a COVID test, which he did, and was positive. So I had to cancel my colonoscopy the next day. AFTER ALL THAT!!! Ooooyyyyy!!!
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
I recommend chasing each big glass with some clear Gatorade.
liltinyoranges@reddit
What is clear Gatorade?
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
I forget the flavor- frost?- but it is easy to spot.

Ohhhh the milky one? (I really stopped paying attention to new Gatorade flavors beyond red, yellow, and orange. One of my kids likes one of the windex-looking ones
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
I wouldn't call it "milky" so maybe.
IndividualAsk4422@reddit
I highly recommend diaper rash ointment or at least Vaseline because after shooting out so much from that area, you will feel the burn! 🔥 It felt like I was farting razor blades! 😫
Trobman7980@reddit

Colonoscopy? My doctor just has me do the poo on a stick mailing thing. Never had one. Should I insist? 53
dalek65@reddit
Oh god. By the time i was done with that bottle I was retching
Last_Blackfyre@reddit
Damn. I had a couple of small bottles and they didn’t taste bad. Berry flavored. Worked effectively but not overly so. Guess it’s up to the doctor what meds to give you. Worst part for me was what I could eat, or rather couldn’t eat. Wish I’d found sorbet in half gallons vs pops. Lime jello is the best, peach was great. Orange was okay. Chicken or beef broth was blah. Black tea and sugar sorta worked as a replacement for coffee. But the first thing I had after the procedure was a big DD coffee!
Best of luck.

This gives all who partake that they, indeed. Are full of shit.
keeksmann@reddit
That is the worst tasting crap ever! It’s like a combination of salt water with artificial lemon flavor. I took it as prep once, and on colonoscopies I’ve had since, I’ve done the MiraLAX prep which is painless and tasteless. I highly recommend it.

dechets-de-mariage@reddit
My insurance wouldn’t cover it, and my insurance is pretty great in general. I did the miralax version instead.
Cactusblossom_thg@reddit
Same here. But, I had a terrible experience with it (more so than the normal terrible experience). So, next time I will pay any price whatsoever to take the pill version!!
dechets-de-mariage@reddit
Same. Actually had the paramedics at my house: worst headache of my life (what made me call) plus sweating and shivering simultaneously.
heidi_abromowitz@reddit
I had to pay 50 bucks, but it was money well spent to not have to drink that nasty shit

wtfnevermind@reddit
I can taste that pic. And it tastes BAD. Salty and bad.
hacksaw2174@reddit
Why does it taste so disgusting?? Last year I barely kept it down and absolutely couldn't drink all the water you're supposed to, my stomach couldn't take it. When I showed up for the test the nurse commented that there are pills you can take instead, but she doesn't know why that isn't prescribed. I will have to ask about that next time, since I need a colonoscopy every five years.

mommymomnyleebotts@reddit
My doctor recently said they’ve come out with pills you can take now.
Temporary_Client7585@reddit
I ended up taking those after gagging and puking the prep out my nose on the second dose. Ugh, awful.
Unlikely_Bid_7094@reddit
1st colonoscopy was this year. I was on the last serving the morning of the procedure and I also couldn't hold it down. Told the doc at intake. He asked if "output" had been pretty clear up to that point. I said yes, so he proceeded. Turned out fine. Said the path was cleat, and no polyps were seen.

coming up on my 10th anniversary for my Colon-rectal cancer diagnosis... I begged for a colonoscopy for over 2 years.. "you aren't 50 yet"... yup stage 3b.. lost most of my rectum and about 18 inches of my large intestine.. gp doctor retired quickly after that, jerk.. unfortunately I carry a diaper bag now 24/7... good on you for getting it done.. and for the record, I prefer the ducolax miralax gatorade cocktail method for my cleansings now...
MrRemoto@reddit
I actually kind of liked it and do it every 6 months or so. Seriously, after the initial hunger pangs numb, and your entire dietary tract is empty, you feel light and a little bit energized. Stick it out another day and introduce a balanced, small dieting day 4, and it actually feels pretty good. I felt like it reset my gut bacteria, and my mood improved.
CartoonistExisting30@reddit
That concoction is vile.
ratherbclever@reddit
Is this the colonoscopy stuff? It's hard to drink, I did it last year. I wouldn't know, but I hear it tastes like cum. But yours has lemon, 😋
pcpjvjc@reddit
If you have trouble with the taste of any of the preps, use a cough drop in your mouth to block it when you have to drink. I've had maybe 5 colonoscopies, and the cough drops help. Good luck to everyone who has this coming up.

Ugh. Thanks to family history, I’ve had four or five colonoscopies already. And I’m on the cusp of being a Millennial, ffs. At least the doc said I can do an OTC prep. Lemon-lime Gatorade, miralax, an OTC stool softener, and gas-x for good measure. I’ve come to loathe lemon-lime Gatorade as a result. You have my sympathy, OP.

strait4bate@reddit
You can skip this and request a CT or MRI. That will catch cancer before a visual inspection, poop smear, or blood test will. Mine was caught so early, that they did surgery and removed it all. I did 6 month chemo infusions and the pills. Never lost weight, never got sick, and never lost my hair.
elkchasermt@reddit
It is better to have the colonoscopy. A visual inspection is more definitive and a biopsy can be performed right away if needed.
Besides who wouldn’t want to challenge their sphincter control and poop water for a day.
strait4bate@reddit
That was my think as well. But a visual wouldn't catch the cancer I had. It was in the layers of tissue and muscle that makes up the colon. Three places the size of a pencil eraser, but so flat to almost not be able to measure. By the time they got big enough to be caught visually, it most likely would have spread and became a worst case scenario. I also had no history of colorectal cancer in my family.
elkchasermt@reddit
True enough, but that might still be too small for even imaging to identify. And it wouldn’t tell you if it’s cancer. The only way to determine if you have cancer is through a biopsy sample sent to a lab for testing.
strait4bate@reddit
Yes. It was notice able because of the density of the developing tumor. I was in surgery that day. Everything was done on a Friday. Biopsy happened over the weekend. Appointment call to me on Monday. Results were given to me on a Tuesday in office. We started treatments the next day, chemo infusions and pills.
elkchasermt@reddit
That’s good to hear it was caught early. I hope everything works is going well with your treatments. As you know, chemo can be rough on a person but some people handle it better if they are otherwise healthy. You didn’t say how long ago your diagnosis was, but please be well and I hope you’ve got it beat!
strait4bate@reddit
I posted, 18 years.

I hope that you are well now! You must be so grateful that they caught it so early! They caught my uterine cancer so early, all they did was give me a hysterectomy, no chemo necessary, thank the Universe!

I just had my first one yesterday, Wednesday evening was my first time ingesting it. I've had worse to drink before, it really wasn't that bad (I did use all of the lemon flavor). Whole thing was relatively easy, I think I went to the bathroom 12 times from Wednesday through Thursday afternoon and it was really not that bad. Then the actual procedure was a really awesome nap. I got drugs in the operating theatre and was likely awake for one minute, then woke up in the room where I changed my clothes, my husband actually waking me up. It didn't even take that long - if this is as bad as it gets, I will consider myself very, very lucky and move on (I did have three polyps which are all gone now). Originally they told me next time would be in 10 years, but they will let me know after checking on they polyps :) And for the record, I'm not always a negative Nancy (or Nathaniel, I suppose) but sometimes I dip into that character and he just wasn't needed for this colonoscopy :)

Mine wasn't that bad to drink, HOWEVER, the next visit (7 to 10 years) I'm scheduling my appointment for 3pm. I had mine at 10 a.m., so I had to wake up at 3am to drink the prep solution and stayed awake to encourage bowel movements. Ugh...
MaximumJones@reddit
Mine was just over the counter Dulcolax and Mirilax. I don't understand doctors that still use these old prep kits that taste nasty. They are COMPLETELY unnecessary now.
shan68ok01@reddit
What works for one won't work for everyone. I have a sluggish bowel. My first scoping I did the smaller volume liquid prep + a special diet four days prior + miralax + a pill laxative and was not "clean". The next year I personally added two days to the diet, an extra day of the laxative, and went with the giant jug of misery. I was clean enough that time that I got the go ahead to wait five years for my next one.
So no, the old ways aren't "COMPLETELY unnecessary now. "

My co worker got a colonoscopy last year and they gave him pills instead of liquid. I’m not due for another on for 5 years but will definitely ask if I can do pills.
bhmcintosh@reddit
REALLY?!?!? I'd pay real money to just down a couple of pills. They had me shotgun three bottles of magnesium citrate (grape flavor was all CVS had - ugh). Stuff was the next best thing to carbonated beach sand going down (and about a half a bottle back UP :( ). Important safety tip: Park your glutes on the can before drinking the stuff, because you will NOT have time to get from the kitchen to the bathroom!
Prestigious-Thing716@reddit

So .... I got in my head that 64 oz. was a gallon. I'm this many years old and never really knew that a gallon was 128 oz. Just a fact that I never bothered to learn in life. I mixed the powder with a gallon jug of water, unintentionally drinking twice as much liquid as I was supposed to. I started the process at about 6:00p, about an hour after an early dinner and then around 8:00p, it was game time. The game didn't end until 3:00a. I fell asleep knowing that I would wake myself up pissing out my ass. I pissed a gallon of liquid out my ass and not all of it into the toilet. I finally got some sleep, on top of a lawn sized trash bag I laid out on my bed.
MyyWifeRocks@reddit
Wait - if you thought a gallon was half the size - didn’t you drink half the amount of liquid you should have? How did you go from half to double?
IvoShandor@reddit
I thought a gallon was 64 oz. So I drank the gallon. I only needed to drink 1/2 gallon.

Jeepers, the two times I've had the joys of preparing for anal probing (7 weeks ago and Monday this week) it was 3 days of prep with 3 litres of orange flavoured stuff the first time, not too bad. This week is was 2 litres, first of mango flavoured stuff, then of fruit punch flavoured stuff. All of them were easy to drink and didn't taste too bad.
The hardest part was the 2 days of eating bland white foods and then fasting for 24 hours on a liquid only diet.
I think I prefer my doctors methods to yours, though!

Pro: had some tasty food in Mexico
Con: no propofol nap
pullmyfinger222@reddit
I tried, I really did, but I just couldn't put even half of that jug down. Instead, I learned a whole new and different way to Roto-Rooter my bunghole. My son bought me a toilet-friendly add-on bidet for my birthday and while testing out my new toy, I leaned forward for "better coverage" and imagine my shock when it did more than just its intended purpose. My eyeballs must've bugged out of my head hardcore when water found its way deep inside of my business. That's when I got an idea. What if I just cleaned it out manually using a hands-free manner? I must've spent a good 45 minutes flushing my turd canal out over and over until there was nothing but water gushing out. Going in for the procedure, I was more than confident my new method had done its job. Turns out I was able to get a clean bill of butthole health, and I didn't even have to glug down a gallon of turds-away. It smelled like victory.... and something else.

My first colonoscopy 7 years ago found a cancerous polyp. I’ve had many colonoscopies. Luckily surgery took care of it, although it was major surgery and involved me having an iliostomy. Thankful I never had to do chemo.

With lemon flavor
Well that’s alright then…

The first time I had to drink the stuff I just started chugging it. I had about half of it down without taking a breath when my wife started freaking out. I had to stop and ask her what was wrong. She just said that she thought I was drinking it too fast. I was so mad because now that I stopped I couldn't get all of that crappy taste out of my mouth. I had to spend the rest of the half hour trying to get the rest down. The next time I have to do it I'm not going to let my wife in the room.

Narrator: It did not, in fact, 'golytely.'

I’m allergic to that shit. Peg. The reaction almost killed me twice. Now I have to have colonoscopies without much prep. Orals, which don’t work well and a lot of fluids. Dr hates me, but it’s the only way. Lots of poop on the table.

Just request the SUTAB pills.

Mine was pineapple… I’m betting the lemon taste better.

I dunno, it all tastes like flavored saltwater to me.

Not much of a lemon taste at all.

But - with lemon flavor…

I still laugh when my primary care physician sang “Like a Virgin” when she set me up for the first time! Suprep tablets are the way to go - even if you have to pay for it. So much better than drinking that terrible stuff!
Present-Assignment99@reddit
I was so worried before the procedure but it turned out to be a snap. Drinking that stuff was the worst part.

Halfway through my first round. Fun.

I got so many gut issues, the prep is the worst part. My advice, wear thick, warm socks and have your pick up person bring you your favorite sandwich.
Itchy_Undertow-1@reddit
You need a good movie/series on your tablet. Oh and just remember—tomorrow will be the BEST NAP EVER.
