This is my minty-fresh IBM desktop and keyboard. It was last booted in 1998, and looks like it sat in a box since then. I had fun adding a few upgrades to it (Overdrive CPU, L2 Cache, Sound Card, Network Card, RAM and IDE to CF)
- IBM PS/Valuepoint 433 DX/D
- CPU: Intel Pentium Overdrive POPD5V83
- L1 Cache: 16 KB
- L2 Cache: 128 KB Write-Back card
- RAM: 64 MB
- HD: IDE-> CF
- Video: On-Board VLB S3 805 w/1 MB VRAM
- Network: 3COM 3C809B ISA
- Audio: Creative Labs AWE32 ISA
When I was growing up, I had an IBM PS/Valuepoint P60/D, it was the first release of the Pentium processor, haven't been able to find one anywhere, so this will have to do until I finally capture my white-whale.

I had the blue lightning 486/66 version of this in tower form as our first family PC in 1993

Memories.....Our first family PC when I was about 13 was the same PS Valuepoint but the 486SX25 version. From memory it was around 2000 NZD (1k USD) and we had to buy a 4X CD drive and that cost about $800 NZD on top! I distinctly remember the salesman looking down his nose at my old man a hard time for even considering a clone. I pulled it apart, and had to reinstall Windows 3.1 many many times. Would also love another.

Wish I could come across compatable vram upgrades for this. The IBMs were so picky

I have the exact same machine!
I also put a pentium overdrive in. I only have 16mb ram cause I had trouble finding compatible sticks. I’m also very jealous of the L2 cache module, those seem to be unobtainium.

I have an extra two sticks of 8 MB to bring you up to 32 if you want em!
pmodizzle@reddit
I would take you up on that! Though would only bring me to 24mb since I currently have 4x4mb sticks but that’s still an upgrade. I can PM you to discuss details

Where's you get the picture of Darth V and the Storm Troopers? That's hilarious.

Oh we have the same monitor, the good ol' Sony SDM-HS75

Also, I wonder why the cache upgrade needed that giant QFP chip on it, instead of just being SRAM

Agreed! I ended up buying a 6387 Valuepoint board (the tower variation) solely to get that 128KB cache chip. The 256kb may as well be a mystical unobtanium unicorn, I can’t find it anywhere.
Good question on the 133 chip, maybe I’ll give it a try!

I had the 425SX/D
I wonder if an Am5x86-133 upgrade would have worked, or if picky IBM BIOS wouldn't have allowed it
