It is weird to think of Adam Sandler being an elder statesman of comedy after being introduced to him on that show. The producers recognized his raw talent.
We got cable late. I was 17. This was the first cable I experience ever. MTV. Remote Control. My father said it was stupid why is he paying for this crap…
Oh hell yeah i remember it and the monster that would grab you when you lost a round and your chair would slid backwards. Collin Quinn was cool as well.
Yeah but they have YouTube which has every music video ever and can play it in any order you want but I do know what you mean I was in High School in the mid 80's
Yeah, I watched about 5 episodes a few years ago, and it reminded me of my fraternity days. The questions were really easy, too, and there was some frat guy that just kept smoking the other dudes. Nobody seemed to care too much about being there or being filmed. These days kids would die to be seen.
While in Navy Bootcamp in the late 80s, they filmed a few episodes at Disney-MGM. They wanted an audience of military so they took a couple bootcamp companies to the filming. Danny Bonaduce was one of the contestants. I don't remember much but I was in this audience, just on the edge of where the camera went. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgSeLxqcrEw
Colin Quinn and Martha Quinn? No internet to check or verify so I kept bouncing back and forth between married couple and couple of siblings. Nobody at Our Lady of Grace 6th - 8th grade seemed to know either.
Fun fact: I was on Remote control in college in Daytona during Spring Break. It was 1990 and I was 20 years old.
55 year old me is now horrified that I thought being drunk, in a bikini, on cable tv was a good idea. Live and learn!!!
Lol! I believe the Spring Break episodes live on You Tube somewhere but thank God there were no cell phone cameras back then! Seriously…I remember signing a release saying they could film me and then it all became fuzzy. I am mortified. But 20 yr old college me said hell yeah, this is a great idea!!!
That wasn’t a show. They were just little updates I recall. Remote Control in my opinion led to other shitty shows like the aforementioned Real World. The cool shows were about music. Headbangers Ball, Yo MTV Raps.
Ken was a good friend of mine. I did some stand up with him when he was attending UMass. Had him to the house several times. Wonderful and very nice guy.
I loved that show so much I bought the video game version of it for my PC. Which I still have but no way to play being it was on a 5 and quarter inch disc. The big floppy
Loved it! I even had the Commodore 64 Remote Control video game. I really wanted to go on the show, but by the time I was old enough (I think you had to be 18), it was no longer airing
One of my friends was on it as a contestant so a bunch of us got free tickets to the taping. (She won a trip to Cozumel, I think. )
This was summer of 1989, I was 18/19.
It taped 5 episodes a day in a studio in Spanish Harlem, and they were always hurting to fill the audience to get enough energy for the taping, so my buddy and I discovered that you didn't need to call in for tickets, you could just show up. So we started to do that every day.
At one point, the production coordinator had to come over and ask us to sit in the back, because we had been to so many tapings that the editors recognized us every time the cameras cut to the audience.
We used to hang between tapings with Colin, he was a cool dude. And a stand up named Mark Cohen who used to do warmup before the shoots and get the audience in a fun mood.
They actually invited us to the wrap party because we had been there so often, but my friend and I had already planned a vacation that week so we couldn't go.
Steve Trecasse, great musician. Great hotel alias. Also, the Christmas episode with the three wise men ( "Shemp?" "Curly died.") ...wasn't that the Beastie Boys?
I’m not lying. I was on one of the episodes that they shot in Orlando. I believe it was 90? It’s on YouTube somewhere I promise. I want almost everything but I didn’t recognize a really dull looking video. It’s turns out it was for a song that I hated anyway so I never listen to it. We had a blast.
I lived in Daytona Beach my whole life so every year as a teenager I got to experience the MTV Spring Break events. Me and my girlfriend met Ken Ober in '91 on the boardwalk. He was a Class Act. Rest in Peace
One of my all-time favorite game shows. I always looked forward to when it came on in the early evening and wanted so badly to be a contestant on there.
A guy i used to work with was on that show. He was a bit of a douche and we would make fun of him for looking like Ralph Malph from Happy Days to piss him off.
