Cute clip of young Jamie

I never noticed this adorable clip of Jamie when he was younger in the intro until now! He’s practically a baby here! Wow!
(This is from the intro to the very first episode, I don’t know if they change this in later intros)
Now you all get to see it too, if you hadn’t noticed it before!

That would be the early Robot Wars games in San Francisco. Jamie came up with the first full-body spinner, "Blendo". He took a cooking wok, mounted it upside down and made it spin. Blendo was removed from the competition because it kept destroying the other robots and throwing pieces of them over the barricade and into the audience! (No ceiling on the arena back then, it was all new.)
There are clips on YouTube and one episode of Tested where Adam talks about it.

Blendo was also gas powered (using a lawnmower engine) and starting it with a cordless drill was so sketchy that Jaime wouldn't let anyone else do it.
It was basically an upside-down lawnmower driven by remote control. And there were not the sorts of safety standards that are in place these days. The organizers basically said "this is so destructive that it'll chew through everything, including the area itself. It'll absolutely win, but we can't safely let it compete. We'll give you a trophy if you stand down from the competition."

The concept of a first place trophy and an identical "we had to kick you out early because our rules weren't prepared for how terrifying this is" trophy is endlessly amusing to me.

Lol, just mashing the stuff that’s near him into a death machine is peak Jamie

Young Jamie? Jamie look that up.

I actually remember watching this episode of Robot Wars before Mythbusters. Jamie dominated the competition with a simple, efficient design.

I listened to Mythfits yesterday and Kari said he's a professor now in Finland. I wonder what kind of hat he wears in that weather.
She also said that he looks exactly the same... Wasn't surprised to hear that :)
External-Caramel690@reddit
Kari recently posted a pic of him on her Instagram, when they met up, which she mentioned on Mythfits.
LarsSitn@reddit
Oh I didn't see that on her profile, I thought he's be opposed to that
