Got it! Although for some reason one of the pieces of the front gear started bending out of shape, I don't know whether this was due to it not being able to support the mass of the aircraft when it is displayed on its landing gears, but I managed to get a replacement part pretty easily. Great fun building it, looks amazing in my room and I'm hoping to get enough space to set up a display with it and my airfix aircraft too.
Can't imagine how much it's gonna cost.
Not only cause Legos is a greedy ass batch of fucks. But because they *know* something like this will be greatly desired. So that alone will also bump the price.
Lego really isn't that greedy. Do they charge a premium? Yeah, but for 90% of sets they really aren't bad.
They're high quality building sets that are compatible with pieces made 20 years ago, with detailed, extensive color manuals that are actually useable. I'm more upset about gas going up 10¢ than I am about Lego charging a little extra for a good product.
I just trust Lego. Very tight tolerance pieces, plus I’m a collector so I know what I’m working with. Plus I don’t feel like shelling out to fake knock offs. There is MOCs of planes, but you have to buy every piece in the used market and it’s a hassle
COBI has been around since the 80s, it’s hardly a knockoff. The tolerances on their pieces are excellent, I have several of their tanks. They actually have a concord set as well.
I am a loyal Lego fan but you are talking bullshit. Cobi is entirely produced in poland.
Lego also isn't all produced in china, only for the assian market it is. For europe it's produced in denmark, bulgaria and I think switzerland and for the american market in mexico
This is a fantastic group for that: [https://www.facebook.com/groups/1481456468623168](https://www.facebook.com/groups/1481456468623168)
I have built a few MOCs, my favorite being a Blue Angels F/A-18 with retractable landing gear.
It'll be stickers and I bet you'll be able to see some of that random colour mess through some gaps from multiple angles. If we're lucky the white exterior will at least not have some random different shades.
How am I wrong? There are stickers in essentially every set, including the ones over 1k €/$
And it is, as of now, sadly a common issue that Lego has colour variation in their pieces.
It is also an issue that you can often see the randomly coloured interior in expensive sets like the UCS 75252 Star Destroyer, which are exclusive display sets.
Big models like this are always filled with bright coloured bricks & technic crap. Red is the worst offender - the old UCS millennium falcon is just grey plates layed over the weirdest mismatch of yellow, blue, red, green & black. Taj Mahal is the same - under the white is a ton of blue & red.
It's like the set designer has to use a certain number of unrelated colours/parts per model, and they often suffer as a result - like being able to see these random pieces through the outer shell.
Just as a note, the use of color bricks on the inside is to make the building and instruction process more clear. I’ve personally never had major color issues coming through but seems like there are a few sets with it.
That may certainly be part of the truth, but in the end it's all about one thing, money. Lego produces many colored bricks for many sets, but not every brick is used equally often and especially in the same color. Through the colorful inner life, the distribution of brick colors across all sets is tried to keep the same, so that red three stones do not cost more than blue two simply because they are used less often.
Oh come on ... those are sets for hundreds of dollars. They're not for toddlers. Any other manufacturer makes their sets with regular same coloured bricks and it still works ... It also workda on the exterior of the Lego sets, doesn't it? There is absolutely no need to go with absolutely random colours. If you are afraid of mix-ups with similar sized pieces you just print a scale version of the piece on the manual to check ... Lego already has the most detailed manuals that make it easy.
Never had an issues? Every single technic set has blue and red pins for absolutely 0 reason lol.
>Every single technic set has blue and red pins for absolutely 0 reason lol.
The pin color varies by friction level in Technic. They could change that I'm sure but again, not "0 reason."
I didn't claim it didn't happen, just not in the sets I have. It isn't something I'm too bothered by when it does I guess but it clearly frustrates you a lot.
Yes. Some have friction some do not. And some have more or less friction. Not sure why that is difficult to grasp. Some are for axles, some are for connections to put simply.
[You can read about the history of the pins if you'd like.](https://brickset.com/article/74062) There are rare exceptions but these days LEGO has opted for color coding the types and their function.
He explained it pretty well.
I even have an example for you. Set 10304 that has a random turquoise piece sticking out of the solid black in the wheel hub. You can have a completely monocoloured set, but the inside looks like unicorn vomit that often shines through.
The passenger windows will almost certainly be prints. Those there's enough of those pieces that it would be economically sound to just print those on, especiallyat that size. But the canopy detail, pinstripe, Concorde script, and plaque will definitely be stickers.
I don't have many sets with plaques but the few that I have are all prints. And those are cheaper sets (International Space Station, a few helmets) so I would expect all plaques to be printed.
But its Lego After all. Look at all sets in the last 5 years and you will find that there is no logic in when to put prints and not. Also not all parts that could economically be prints, are such. On the other hand you get prints like on indiana jonas which will hardly be of any use in the future. So dont count on logic or sense when it comes down to Lego
It's highly dependant on the set. There are times where Lego uses as many stickers as they can, and there's set that only use printed parts.
IIRC the 911 Turbo/Targa is all printed pieces.
I’m not convinced it would be stickers, at least I would hope not. I was really surprised and very pleased with the Saturn V set being printed and not stickers.
Nah.
I mean, I absolutely believe you could get a knock off for a tenth the price, but it won't be just as good. Lego puts a *lot* of effort into their instructions and designs, and also into the tolerances on their injection molding machines and stuff to guarantee everything fits well.
(There are also good non-lego plastic brick sets, but they're not the ones on AliExpress)
What you want is [mould King ](https://mouldking.store/) they use the same product lines as lego and their moulds are as good if not better than Lego. Its also no knock off. Lego has bo longer a patent on their bricks, just on the figurs
Yeah I have a few cobi sets. Mainly the tanks as Lego does not sell them and I got the first set at the tank museum. I can’t comment on aircraft from them as I have never bought them but the tanks are very good quality
No idea why you're being down voted, that's one of the ones I was thinking of too. I don't have a lot of experience with non-lego sets, but I've heard good things.
They are on aliexpress since almost all other brick companies are in China.
The thing is to stay away from sets where they copied LEGO 1:1, you could even get problems getting it thru customs.
Over the past years I bought a couple of sets on aliexpress and I was surprised by the high quality. Like the CADA Japanese bun shop. Also the LOZ mini brick sets are great. You actually don’t notice much of a brick quality difference between LEGO and those competitors anymore (partly also because LEGO’s own quality has tanked over the past 10 years). However, the biggest quality difference is in the instructions. LEGO’s are far superior. Also the price of those Chinese competitors has been steadily going up. In the past you could find similar sets for which LEGO would charge $150 being sold by the competitors for $50. But now you easily pay >$100. What I like about those LEGO competitors is that they often have a much wider range of designs and also hire people famous from the LEGO MOC community to design their products.
Based on what? [The first set](https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/the-amazing-spider-man-31209) I found on Legos site for $200 has 2099 pieces. And it is in line with my experience with Lego. You think it’s going to come in at 17 cents a piece? I don’t think anything has been that high before.
Lego has been making sets aimed at adults for forever. The bulk of what they sell might be the standard play sets for kids, but they've been making sets designed as display pieces and *not* play pieces for forever.
Lego has a whole collection of 18+ lego sets. It's a part of their "adults welcome" campaign. Check out the website, there's a ton of really incredible sets available, from botanicals to a massive titanic replica.
Okay, I did some quick math.
The fuselage is 6.4 Lego studs (2.016 inches) wide. According to Google, Concorde's fuselage was 113 inches wide. This gives us a scale of approximately 1:56.
In other words, assuming Lego scaled the model correctly (and they have a great track record in this regard), this model should be *3.6 feet long*! (Corresponding to the real Concorde's 202 feet of length.
WOW!
I was thinking maybe the whole fuselage looks just slightly too thick? Too large in diameter, should either be a little thinner, or longer? Concorde was quite a long skinny aircraft.
Hard to tell from just one pic though, could be the angle.
Ehh, it’s LEGO. Scaling has always been a problem in sets that try to incorporate a lot of little details because they have a finite number of pieces to work with when designing them. 10294 Titanic is littered with inaccuracies, but I don’t let that bother me.
Sure, but every time you want to play with it you have to do a bunch of paperwork and stickytape a letter N in front of the registration number on the tail.
Is nonone else upset about the nose? Lego usually is verybdetailed and accurate, but this model has the entire cockpit tilt down. Whereas the original plane only had the nose tilt down for visibility, not the entire cockpit.
To be honest it better come with a choice of tails and livery …. Then I’d buy at least 2 and possibly 4 just to have the fleet with the original livery and the last ones. The red kinda looks like the BA swish 🤷🏻♂️
Because the original two companies that manufactured Concorde were merged / purchased along the way and eventually Airbus formed out of them and other organisations so in 2001 Airbus technically became the manufacturer of Concorde until 2003 when it was retired even though they never actually made any of the aircraft.
Closest I can think of is that one of the original Concorde manufacturers, Sud Aviation, ended up merging into what is now Airbus, so maybe they have the marketing/IP rights to Concorde that Lego needed to make this set.
BAC, the other manufacturer, ended up becoming BAE systems.
Did someone say corporate lineage of French aircraft manufacturers?
[Timeline of Major French Aircraft Manufacturers & Designers, 1905 - Present](https://www.reddit.com/r/aircraft_designations/comments/12f8kee/timeline_of_major_french_aircraft_manufacturers/)
Can we please get a future A380 🙏
Also for those in this thread new to Lego, https://www.brickstickershop.com/ will probably make custom real world brand stickers to apply. So you can finally live out that life long fantasy of a RyanAir Concorde.
> RyanAir Concorde
"This is your Captain speaking, we are now cruising at Mach 0.99, if the final passengers in seats 12B and 21C would like to pay the ₤21.99 fee, your flight will qualify for supersonic travel."
Good point! Concorde in particular was very efficient at flying supersonic, but pretty poor going slow(er). That's my understanding, at least - perhaps everyone's really just looking for an excuse to push those throttles forward and make a big noise...
Classic Lego - charge three figures for leftover pieces from other sets.
Seriously, if they can't even keep parts colours uniform in their premium sets, there's no justification for the premium pricetag.
I'm excited for this set but I'd be lying if I didn't say I expected it to be better. Less angular/boxy (except for the engines, of course). Beautiful plane nonetheless.
Braniff co-leased Concordes from both AF and BA in 1979/80, though they were never painted in the Braniff livery.
Singapore is the only other airline to have actually had it's livery on a Concorde, when it's livery was painted on the left side of G-BOAD, around the same time as the Braniff deal.
I hope they make this [guy’s JWST model.](https://www.reddit.com/r/Astronomy/comments/14qj1sd/jwst_is_back_on_lego_ideas_hopefully_third_times/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)
This is so cool and it looks great! I’d be even cooler if the set had movable control surfaces and retractable landing gear mechanism. I wish Lego’s technic division would make an airliner with those features. I’d love to buy one like it!
Take my money.
Nice to see some new Lego plane sets. I’ve always liked the Sopwith Camel set, and some of the fanmade sets are astonishing. I hope to see more in the future.
The National Museum of the USAF in Dayton has a lego replica of Air Force 1 which would make for an incredible (but expensive) set. There is so much potential for more Lego planes.
Thick wings ruined the whole thing. As an aviation enthusiast and Lego fan, hard pass for me. I got plastic model bought from airport years ago at keast.
Speculated or confirmed on this one? Been waiting a long time for another really nice aviation based set to come around. Feel like the last one we had was the Sopwith camel.
There better be some kind of thing to make it one brick longer, like it's at speed - The Concorde would gain anywhere between 6-11 inches of length at speed in flight due to surface heating!
