Digital Notepad

I work in a position where I take notes on the move all the time. I’ve found that I hand write far too slow to write as someone speaks to me… so I’ve started taking notes typing on my phones notepad. Problem is… I don’t wanna fill up my phones storage with random notes all day since some notes stick around for multiple days, and I wouldn’t buy a phone that’s purpose is strictly note-taking. Someone should make a thin little phone-sized digital notepad where you can type on a digital keyboard just like a regular smartphone and save notes, hand write notes with a pen maybe, and it could also have a small camera to add pics to notes. I’d buy it.

So you really want a second phone/smaller tablet. Here's why: It already has all the features you need. Older modrls allow for sd card removal, which means that even if the phone bricks, you can pull your data out of the card if you store it there. Backing up files is very easy using android phones. A lot of note apps available. Older models, but still working normally are affordable, especially second hand. If you uninstall all but what you need from it, it should run fairly well and be reliable. Bloatware and filled storage clunk our phones down, your note taking phone would have the privilege of not going through that. In case your main phone decides to give up on you randomly, you have a backup ready.
Getting a phone or small tablet (or using an old one you probably have) is the best option for you in my opinion. If money isn't an issue, there are models that allow for freehand writing with a stylus that's provided with the phone. I know you asked for a device SPECIFIC to note-writting, but with how customizable phones are, you can designate one as a note-taking device and min-max it to fit your needs.

I wouldn’t be opposed to getting an older iPhone mini or something. I just feel weird about purchasing a whole phone just to take notes on. This device I’m brainstorming about would be more of a thin, breast pocket-able sorta deal.

This literally just dropped and seems to be just what you are looking for

😂 At the first edit - so nothing like the link, which is basically an etch-a-sketch that you can draw on instead of using knobs.

Well… I want everything the product on the link is, but a digital keyboard and storage for notes added to it. That’s the “crazy idea”

They already make those . . . they’re called tablets.

Text files take up an extremely small amount of storage space – have you actually observed your phone running out of storage space, or are you just trying to prevent a future issue? If the latter, I sincerely doubt that you need to worry. You could write years worth of notes and barely begin to fill up the storage of the vast, vast majority of modern smartphones. It will depend on the app you're using and how it stores notes but still.

Having your phone out is also seen as super unprofessional as well.
Maybe look into some kind of text to speech note taking system.
Then run that through an AI to summarize things. Especially the key things you recall.

You’ve …described an iPad…
Brady0_0@reddit (OP)
I get that, but I don’t want to shell out hundreds for an iPad just to take notes. I think something like this could totally help a bunch of people in making their jobs easier.

Last generation Amazon fire tablet. Its $50

How much space are your notes taking up? Because a thousand novels of wrirten data should be a lot less than 5gb even of the file sizes are enourmous.

Sometimes I want to drink a cup of water when I'm out and about.
We need like a portable cup of water that you could bring with you.
Please don't say travel mug or water bottle.
I mean like a portable cup of water.
havron@reddit
Note to self: pocket cup.

Like a mini water backpack.

Like a Palm Pilot? See r/Palm =)
But in all seriousness, text based notes do not take up any kind of real storage space.

The entire bible takes up less storage space than a high quality image. OP could write all his life and not fill up his phone.
Big_Z_Beeblebrox@reddit
It would take about 173.5 million pages of text to fill up a 256GB storage medium
