The show's been off for like 15 years. People get old and sick and have accidents. It's only a curse if like Adam or Jamie had been replaced multiple times throughout the show when it was on because of this or that. What you're saying is like saying dying is "the oxygen curse."
After rewatching large chunks of the pre Grant seasons I agree that she deserved more of a part. I loved her when she was in the Killer Quicksand episode

Oh no! I had just started rewatching Mythbusters two weeks ago and had wondered what she was up to now days. Little did I know at the time she had already died. RIP
