rip missed this one

Why would I want a barrel thats mid?
tyraywilson@reddit
Mid-length gas system is softer shooting.
mojobolt@reddit
hahaha no, that internet nonsense has be refuted by crane. it's a placebo effect. your buffer and spring set up will do far more to soften your felt recoil than unnoticeable differences in dwell time here. what you do get is a immaterial reduction is wear which Crane also cited
to the question, the gas port is opened on these so you get the longer gas system/dwell time but more gas for greater reliability
my only regret is chopping a 16" a year vs waiting....well waiting blows so win win:)

Can you clue me in on the crane testing? All I can find is this 2018 article on soldier systems. Have they released new findings?

How would a factory 12.5” compare to a chopped 16” roof top special to 12.5” by DWilson. Just wondering if anyone has tested them and if there is a difference in maybe accuracy?
fakeredditor@reddit
There won't be an intrinsic reason for a chopped 16 to be more or less accurate than a factory 12.5. It will just vary randomly from barrel to barrel.
A native 16 may have a slightly smaller gas port than a native 12.5 so you might get a little backpressure with a chopped 16. So if you're looking for something to be mostly/entirely suppresses, a chopped 16 is probably the way to go.
BidSniper@reddit
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t there a concern with the chrome lining flaking when you do a barrel chop?
mojobolt@reddit
I had D wilson cut my 16 and no issues whatsoever. use a reputable shop
CommunalJellyRoll@reddit
Yes if you don’t flake from chopping you flake from machining most times. That being said if it is done with no flaking which is possible. I have a chopped chrome barrel that ran on a 16 lower for decades and it flaked near the gas port before the cut portion.
Ok_Form_2049@reddit
Good point. Im no gunsmith. Just a random 3rd party, but wouldn’t the chrome flaking near the muzzle be of little consequence assuming the chrome lining WOULD flake?
mojobolt@reddit
great post
renegadeGDI@reddit
I'm an LMT fan with many of their rifles but would much rather convert a 12.5 barrel in this case. Almost anything else on the market will be more accurate and lighter.

Guess I should have waited to post as these are listed $30 cheaper and about $25 cheaper total after the discount than my last post. Still great prices all around on these.
