Depends on where in Scotland you are from. * If you are in the Highlands then the lifestyles of the characters in Trainspotting seem so unfathomably deprived that you can't possible fathom that its set in the same country as you. * If you are in the Central Belt then the lifestyles of the characters in Trainspotting seem so unobtainable privileged that you can't possible fathom that its set in the same country as you.

Living now in the US, mention Scotland and it's all clans, family tartans, how moving the sound of bagpipes are and that time they went to 'Edin borro' Castle...
