It's like seeing a couple make out very publicly, it's in bad taste. Add on the fact that it's clearly a marketing play/ narcissistic behavior and it's just kinda gross. Pretty sure people just find it annoying.
Art, being both a mirror of society and a tool for shaping it, has always carried social and political influences, and as such so have artists. In fact that's one of the primary functions of art, historically. Powerful institutions have always tried to control art precisely because it influences people.
If you think musicians, or any artists should stay out of politics, then you're probably just uncomfortable with what they're saying. Remember, silence is also political, and by pushing for entertainment to be just entertainment, you're reinforcing the status quo and slowing the spread of new ideas. Unless you're filthy rich, you're not doing yourself or the world any favors. Stop that.
Correct art is a tool of manipulation which is why mainstream art and media is mostly meaningless, with ulterior motives attached.
Artists and musicians should have zero political or economic influence. Engineers and scientists should.
Case number one: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musicians_United_for_Safe_Energy
Acting like the influence musicians do have is beneficial is completely ignoring the fact that the CIA has openly pushed agendas for musicians are artists to push. The sudden explosion of the Laurel Canyon scene (The Doors, Frank Zappa, Crosby, Stills & Nash, etc.) had suspicious ties with many of the artists being children of military/intelligence families.
Jim Morrison - His father, Admiral George S. Morrison, commanded the U.S. fleet during the Gulf of Tonkin incident, you know the escalator to the vietnam war.
Frank Zappa - Son of a chemical warfare specialist who worked at the Edgewood Arsenal (a center for biological/chemical weapons research). Zappa grew up around top-secret labs and military facilities.
John Phillips (The Mamas & The Papas) - Graduated from elite military prep schools, then Annapolis Naval Academy (though he left early). His family was deep military establishment.
Stephen Stills - Claimed time spent in Central America prior to fame, possibly connected to U.S. covert operations there in the early 1960s. But take with that information as you wish.
David Crosby - Descendant of Van Cortlandt and Van Rensselaer families, old money American elite. His father worked in military aerospace photography.
Yes these people were all working class cultural critics with a perfect perspective of the working class struggles. By the 1970s, the revolutionary rhetoric had given way to “tune in, turn on, drop out.” A slogan literally coined by Timothy Leary, who had direct relationships with CIA-funded researchers.
My point is, the people who should have influence should have that influence derived from accomplishments and inventions they made to make other people's lives better. Engineers, scientists, physicists, doctors, etc. All of those people's reputation is built off what they create. Not singing about how fat their pussy is.
I get your point and there’s no question that art and media have been used as tools of manipulation. The Laurel Canyon connections, CIA influence on counterculture, and the broader history of intelligence agencies using musicians to shape public opinion are all real phenomena worth examining. There’s documented history of state-sponsored culture wars, from the CIA’s funding of modern art in the Cold War to Operation Mockingbird’s infiltration of newsrooms. I’m not dismissing that at all.
But here’s the thing: art has always been political, and always will be, with or without government meddling.
The reason musicians and artists have influence isn’t because the CIA gave it to them. It’s because humans are wired for narrative, emotion, and identity, and art communicates those faster and deeper than facts ever can. If music and art didn’t sway people, the CIA wouldn’t have spent millions infiltrating counterculture movements. The fact they had to co-opt musicians proves how naturally powerful they are at shifting identity, values, and collective action. Most importantly, scientists weren’t mobilizing millions against the Vietnam War. Musicians were. That’s why they were targeted.
It’s true mainstream pop culture often pushes shallow, profit-driven slop. But that doesn’t erase the historical and modern examples where artists shape society. To name just a few:
Scientists published data on climate change for decades, but it wasn’t until Billie Eilish, Coldplay, and others made it cultural that it hit mainstream discourse.
Bob Dylan didn’t invent the Civil Rights Movement, but “Blowin in the Wind” amplified its reach.
Kendrick Lamar’s "Alright" became a chant for the BLM protests, not because the government told people to sing it, but because people felt it.
Picasso’s Guernica - anti-war activism
John Lennon’s Imagine - anti-nuclear movement
Childish Gambino’s This Is America - national debate on gun violence
Public Enemy’s Fight the Power - anthems against systemic oppression
Yes, there’s corporate garbage. There’s also revolutionary fire. Both exist simultaneously. If you want to move mass consciousness, logic and numbers aren’t enough. That alone is not manipulation, it's human psychology.
I 100% agree engineers, scientists, and doctors should have greater influence than they currently do. They create tangible tools that improve lives. But influence isn’t a zero-sum game. A scientist can invent solar panels, but a musician can make a generation want them. A filmmaker can make climate change real to someone who would never read a research paper otherwise. If you give all influence exclusively to scientists and engineers, you’ll still need storytellers, musicians, and cultural drivers to translate technical knowledge into collective will. Otherwise, discoveries sit on shelves while society ignores them. Scientists may invent, but it’s culture that decides what society actually does with those inventions. People rarely rally behind pieces of paper. They rally behind symbols, stories, and sounds. That’s not good or bad, it’s just how collective action happens. If you give power only to scientists, but no one translates their work into cultural meaning, their impact stays locked in journals instead of shaping society.
Even if they were capable of shaping society by themselves, just handing everything over to scientists and engineers isn't a miracle solution either. Scientists aren’t immune to political pressure, corruption, or manipulation. Tobacco companies funded fake science to bury links between smoking and cancer for decades. Oil companies paid researchers to confuse the public on climate change. Eugenics “science” was once used to justify forced sterilization and racial hierarchies. If you hand scientists exclusive power over shaping culture and politics, you still have the same vulnerabilities. Except now nobody’s questioning them, because we’ve stripped away the counterbalances of media, music, and public narrative.
Science provides the knowledge. Art provides the momentum. Without both, progress stalls and values degrade. If you remove art from that equation, you remove the very mechanism by which ideas spread.
This is clearly just so Taylor can throw everyone off the trail when she's clearly in love with me. She tells me every night when I flush my pills instead of taking them. Feel sorry for this football guy getting lead on.
My English teachers were either older women or men, neither lend themselves to pregnancy. They weren't bossy or annoying either. Gym teachers were all nice, no nonsense, regular guys

I don't think there's a specific context, but it's sort of an "All-American, small-town" image that taylor likes to portray in some of her music. So it kinda makes sense.
always the most annoying, pregnant, and bossy teacher in the school
Really? At my school three math/ science teachers produced like eight babies in the four years I was there. Can't remember the English teachers having any.
Yes, I made that comment because I earnestly believe that if the English teachers didn't get pregnant at my school they can't have been getting pregnant at anyone else's schools.
I loved my English teachers, 2/3 were soft spoken long-haired guys that—while they couldn’t make literature interesting to save their life—were super nice to be around.
I only ever had one English teacher I liked and one that I was neutral about; every other one I either disliked or hated while most other teachers were generally at least ok.
Taylor was a total nepo baby and got no idea what public teachers are even like. Her dad had stakes in the first record company she worked with and they had vacation homes. Travis has a more humble background at least.
In comparison, Alanis Morissette’s parents were both teachers and she never was this annoying about anything
Hi, big time Taylor Swift hater here, but I have to say you're wrong. We grew up a few miles apart in neighboring school districts, and she was in public schools until I think her junior year? Either way, I know a lot of people who know her people. Yeah she is a nepo baby in terms of her intro to the industry, she wouldn't have gotten anywhere without her rich dad. But compared to other stars she has had at least some realistic life experience.
why the fuck would she put that in her instagram caption bro this is peak millennial "I still think about high school even thou its been over a decade since" humor
Especially since the only person in that picture with a college education is Travis. Taylor swift is not able to be credentialed to teach in my district.
That caption is cringe and self absorbed. You're not an English teacher because you write songs about your bad relationships. He's not a gym teacher because he plays football
Huge congratulations to Taylor! She’s given us so much through her music over the years—seeing her find happiness in her own life is really beautiful. Wishing them both all the love and joy in this next chapter
I’m not a swifty but the anti swift people are matching the same energy for hating someone so hard bc they have nothing in their life other than to hate.
Everyone got push notifications on their phones today about it from a myriad of apps that they aren’t even subscribed to
I can almost guarantee that if you tried your best to become a cave-dweller to not see or hear anything about it, some troglodyte Neanderthal will somehow come up to you and be like “Unga Bunga did you hear about Taylor Swift?”
Shes a billionaire that preaches about how the poors are polluting the planet with their carbon emissions and need to cut back then proceeds to do 500x more damage than the average person does driving to a 9-5 for a year with her private jet rides alone
To be honest, this time around I think the haters will be way more annoying. It’s them showing they don’t know how to use the mute feature on their favorite websites.
Much like the death of Diana Spencer aka 'The People's Princess', it's going to be all over the place. And the cult will castigate anyone who doesn't go along with it.
Much like the death of Diana Spencer aka 'The People's Princess', it's going to be all over the place. And the cult will castigate anyone who doesn't go along with it.
The reason this whole situation even has haters is because it’s not just news on social media, it’s a fucking social phenomenon. It doesn’t matter how hard you try to avoid it, SOMEone will bring it to your attention. Even literally here right now I am having it brought to my attention.
I think its more of her vibes and style. She really gives off English teacher vibes with her appearance and demeanor. Where I usually find music teachers to either be more buttoned up or more eccentric.
Tbf we are talking about Taylor Swift, who, you know, is very famous about countless break ups and made songs about that. Even I thought the same thing as anon.
Plenty of people don’t have dozen break ups, averaging 1 year of relationship before breaking up and wrote songs about their dozen exes. At this point I don’t think it’s her exes that are problematic even if she dated a lost cause like Matt Healey. She’s definitely the problem. Hence other people’s pessimistic view about this. You can even see some comments here that said the same thing as me.
Most people aren't celebrities either which definitely impacts and changes her dating life. I could understand if she's had lots of engagements, but this is a first. She's not going to be Elizabeth Taylor
I don't care about this in the least, I am actually actively trying to avoid it. It's already impossible on the rest of reddit, come on guys, do better.
I’m convinced she’s pregnant, and they’re already married. Notice how Travis is pressed against her in such a way as to hide a bump. Empire waist and vertical stripes? Easiest to photo shop.
I really enjoyed loaded cbssports NFL page and finding 8 articles on them getting engaged with a week to go before the season starts. Heaven forbid I wanted to actually read about football.
I was in a hair salon and people literally started crying, I shit not. I almost walked out with the color in my hair, I was dying from second hand embarrassment.

My Gym Teacher and English teacher getting married would be a fucking disaster and now I want to see it.
Spuddups84@reddit
If teachers made the kind of money these two useless chuds do we'd be better off.
ExoTheFlyingFish@reddit
Swift writes songs.
She's dating that football guy, too, I think?
Ergo, English teacher and gym teacher. I guess.
WoolooOfWallStreet@reddit
But music would imply band or orchestra
Unless she’s saying she doesn’t consider what she writes as music
Planktillimdank@reddit
Her considering it poetry first and foremost would track. I think English teacher is a fine analogy.
ExoTheFlyingFish@reddit

Beebah-Dooba@reddit
Taylor was a total nepo baby and got no idea what public teachers are even like. Her dad had stakes in the first record company she worked with and they had vacation homes. Travis has a more humble background at least.
In comparison, Alanis Morissette’s parents were both teachers and she never was this annoying about anything
bluespartans@reddit
Hi, big time Taylor Swift hater here, but I have to say you're wrong. We grew up a few miles apart in neighboring school districts, and she was in public schools until I think her junior year? Either way, I know a lot of people who know her people. Yeah she is a nepo baby in terms of her intro to the industry, she wouldn't have gotten anywhere without her rich dad. But compared to other stars she has had at least some realistic life experience.

Especially since the only person in that picture with a college education is Travis. Taylor swift is not able to be credentialed to teach in my district.
jellybeanbellybuttom@reddit
This encapsulates what Swifties are: corny and basic
quinzel252@reddit
Yall are so upset over two people being happy for what? When your family members get married do you pray on their divorce too?
EquivalentSnap@reddit
That caption is cringe and self absorbed. You're not an English teacher because you write songs about your bad relationships. He's not a gym teacher because he plays football
Dizzy-Hand-4014@reddit
Huge congratulations to Taylor! She’s given us so much through her music over the years—seeing her find happiness in her own life is really beautiful. Wishing them both all the love and joy in this next chapter

it’s both cause of her notable songwriting, and cause her personality kinda gives english teacher vibes. she’s joked about it herself.
callmelatermaybe@reddit
Taylor is more of a songwriter than a vocalist or performer.
ncopp@reddit
I think its more of her vibes and style. She really gives off English teacher vibes with her appearance and demeanor. Where I usually find music teachers to either be more buttoned up or more eccentric.
hellexter@reddit
I find it concerning that anon's first thought at an engagement post is "when will they get divorced?"
ISIPropaganda@reddit
Tbf I’ve rarely seen a celebrity couple get married and NOT get divorced. Especially if they got married after they both were famous.
ammar96@reddit
Tbf we are talking about Taylor Swift, who, you know, is very famous about countless break ups and made songs about that. Even I thought the same thing as anon.
CoolCoolCoolidge@reddit
Plenty of people have lots of break ups until they get married
ammar96@reddit
Plenty of people don’t have dozen break ups, averaging 1 year of relationship before breaking up and wrote songs about their dozen exes. At this point I don’t think it’s her exes that are problematic even if she dated a lost cause like Matt Healey. She’s definitely the problem. Hence other people’s pessimistic view about this. You can even see some comments here that said the same thing as me.
CoolCoolCoolidge@reddit
Most people aren't celebrities either which definitely impacts and changes her dating life. I could understand if she's had lots of engagements, but this is a first. She's not going to be Elizabeth Taylor
Mystikwankss@reddit
Won't even get married but will get 6 albums out of kt
Maxounet02@reddit

I don't care about this in the least, I am actually actively trying to avoid it. It's already impossible on the rest of reddit, come on guys, do better.

TheOneGreyWorm@reddit
At this point I am starting to think she is the problem.
Also, I'd put my money on 4-5 months, max 1 year.
RickThiCisbih@reddit
Taylor Swift kind of seems like the sunken cost fallacy kind of girl, so I think she’ll stay even if he cheats on her.
LordPeebis@reddit
Travis would be too scared to imo lol. Her fans would legit kill him
TheOneGreyWorm@reddit
True. Swifties are genuinely crazy.

No way I think at least 5 so she can get a few kids. She wouldn’t do the marriage thing for under 2 years.
ProbablyTheWurst@reddit
CommercialMoment5987@reddit
I’m convinced she’s pregnant, and they’re already married. Notice how Travis is pressed against her in such a way as to hide a bump. Empire waist and vertical stripes? Easiest to photo shop.
