Part of me thinks that this is a way for certain states/Gov to prove their support. Sending a couple hundred NG as support doesn’t actually help much but a pledge of loyalty to the administration. Who knows, maybe the Governors feel forced by an authoritarian chief of staff and this will keep them out of their state by capitulating with a small NG offering.

Did you notice that all these Red states mobilized at the same time? That it wasn’t one or two who had the “bright idea” followed by more? To me that says there was a call behind the scenes to the Red states basically saying that to prove your loyalty, you need to do this. This is them saying that when the time comes to use the NG in a more potent way, they’re ready and willing.

None of the Blue states are part of this. And there’s been no reporting that Blue states also received a call to activate their NGs.

Those are battle lines.

Take a cue from Badger and Skinny Pete and infiltrate local support groups for people with terminal illnesses. Posing as someone with only weeks left to live, talk at length about why you are there: Your desire to make the time you have left really meaningful. Is anyone else haunted by the thought that your name will die with you? If only there were a way to matter; to do something really meaningful and important. How tragic to leave this place wondering if you made a difference to anyone! Does anyone think about their legacy, and how to best use your last precious moments? Anyone at all?

100% agree!! Unfortunately, every time I try to contact my state reps, it goes to a voice-mail that is full. I've emailed them and only got an auto response, "thanking me for expressing my concerns."

As I understand it, the National Guard is paid by the entity that deploys them. Can these states balance a solvent budget with these mass deployments, or are they being subsidized by the Federal Goverment? Will this impact disaster response? What will they do when they're no longer being paid?

Generally how it works in the military... you might get 150 a month if your in the gulf but yeah same base pay whether doing PT at home or Manning an entry control point in Djibouti

Not how it works in the guard. You get base pay for your monthly drill and you have mutas which are like points that you get paid out for when you're activated less than a month. More than a month you get AD pay.
