How can realistically someone end up in such unfortunate life

Honestly I think my autism is the sole reason I didn't end up like this guy
Despite my ADHD and the fact I had the memory capacity of a 2010 era Dell netbook, my autism still got me curious enough to pursue hobbies, open a book, maintain a somewhat coherent conversation with anyone and the fact that the knowledge gained from said activities somewhat compensates for my acne riddled face, mild obesity and middling jawline
I cultivate enough self confidence and money to dress somewhat decently (from fits that has been described as "a Mormon's idea of a gen Z outfit")
Mind you I'm still a dumbass and is completely clueless about anything pop culture related, but I'm trying

Joshgg13@reddit
Exactly what I was thinking. No one with an IQ below 100 would talk like that
whydoyouevenreadthis@reddit
What? Now I'm curious, what exactly about their style just screams "I am smart" to you?
Joshgg13@reddit
General ability to speak coherently and lack of grammatical errors. The majority of my clients at work are construction workers; if you saw the way they write, you would understand.
FYI I'm not saying anon is smart, but I doubt their IQ is low enough that it prevents them from working.
whydoyouevenreadthis@reddit
The degree to which someone cares about grammar and style, as well as the stylistic preferences of their parents, what (if any) books they ready, etc. is much more important than intelligence. The people you refer to value writing and speaking properly much less than you, and probably less than Anon. Writing creatively is a relatively demanding activity (though still far below solving actually hard problems, as far as I'm aware). Writing coherently, and even with a 'decent' level of stylistic refinement, is incredibly simple because it is formulaic. There are certain rules, and following these rules yields a coherently written text, no thinking required.
Take "predicament", for example. Using the word "predicament" itself doesn't require almost any brainpower, I think so much is clear. Using it properly is more so a function of upbringing and education. Wealthy people tend to be educated, and educated people tend to be more intelligent, but the connection isn't as strong as you might think. In any case, there is nothing inherently difficult about using words with a lot of letters. Also, all the words they used are pretty basic and known to (even if not used by) almost everyone. Even if Anon's style was very elevated, to a pretentious degree, and to one where an uneducated reader would have trouble understanding them, I'd think that they maybe went to a private school or something, not that their IQ is high or even average.
I agree that their IQ isn't so low that they literally can't work; I think it's obvious that Anon perceives everything in their life to be difficult, not impossible, because of their IQ.

The fact that he can't write like that
MommyMilkersPIs@reddit
I feel like this is becoming far more common because of social media. People see mfs living the best lives because they’re lucky af and people like anon get in their own head about their lives feeling down because they’re not attractive or smart. You can kinda help both, get in shape eat better and educate yourself. Ignore everything else until you feel better about yourself
t2958@reddit
I'm considered both attractive and very smart, and many people have told me so, but because of severe mental problems (been diagnosed and fit into like 5 or 6 diagnoses), most of these problems were either diagnosed or confirmed by psychs, I'm still stuck as NEET and basically living a socially isolated life of a hikki at 22, I tried very hard to function in the society, but because of severe sociophobia I just couldn't function in there (school, then university, currently on an academic leave), felt even more isolated and sometimes even harassed just because I'm like this, in the end I understood that I will be much happier either alone, or with very few good people who will suit me, and whom I will suit even despite my problems, why would I want to live in a society of cruel fools?
imnota_@reddit
You have sociophobia, but that doesn't make being a NEET obligatory.
There's plenty of ways to progress in life and make the money to support the lifestyle you want to not be miserable without having to deal with people.
The fact you said "hikki" says a lot tbh.
t2958@reddit
I know it doesn't, and I don't want to be neet,I'm on academic leave that I plan to extend, my goal is to get an education where I will be able to earn decent money, while also being mostly by myself, but with my current mental health problems it's almost impossible to study, sociophobia is just one of them, I was treated with antidepressants but each of them either made it only worse or had severe side effects, I tried 5-6 in total, I've been taking one for four years and it just stopped working, now it's only causing problems and severe discontinuation when I try to get off, I haven't been warned about this by a single doctor, my only hope is to get off this shitty drug and somehow rebuild my miserable life, I'm only 22
Also what does in your opinion the fact that I said "hikki" mean? In my language it's often used to describe people who are shut-ins and usually never leave theit houses
imnota_@reddit
I'm no professional but IMO the first step is determining what your sociophobia is based on.
Anxiety, fear of performance/rejection ? Hatred for people ? Inexplicable gut feeling ?
First two cases then IMO meds are a bandaid and won't fix anything. All centered on confidence and self esteem, and acceptance of what you can control and what is out of your hands.
The start of this is the CBT triangle. Your mindset approaching the situation controls the feelings, which controls the behaviors. It's manifesting in a way.
Approach thinking it's gonna be bad, you're gonna be anxious, act weird and stressed, guaranteeing a negative result. Convince yourself it's gonna go alright, even if it seems delusional, you start from a better place and end up better in the end.
Realize what you cannot control, for example other people's thoughts or feelings, what society asks of you, etc.
And realizing how much you can control, not only your thoughts and reactions to the uncontrollable events previously mentioned, but also just your behavior in general, improving yourself, taking action.
Lots in this world seems to be determined by society, by how, where and when we grew up. But actually lots of the things we think we're not able to do, not allowed to do, are an illusion. But there is comfort in giving ourselves reasons and excuses not to do something.
I know it seems cheesy in a "you can do anything your put your mind to" kind of way, but let me give an example.
I used to think older people were so different, because society tell us that a responsible adult is on a different scope of life and cannot have any compatibility with a 20yo.
If I hadn't realized it's a bullshit assumption, that in reality we're all people, go through the same stuff, have the same feelings, can like the same things, and that age is just a matter of how long you've been on earth, I would've missed out on my best friend that is 39, and another very good friend that is 49.
True for many things, a common thing for anxious people is thinking their weirdness is what's getting in the way of their social life. But there are plenty of weirdos which live life without worrying and succeed socially. Most of the time the guys thinking that aren't even that weird, but it's easier to give yourself that excuse, have it be a finality rather than having to self reflect to understand the true reasons of your failures, and then put you out of the comfort zone.
All this is easier said then done obviously. Read up a lot on the theory and analyze and see how it applies to you, apart from actual psychology there are also books like the four agreements that I recommend.
When I was dealing with anxiety, sometimes I felt so sick I thought I was gonna die, but I was telling myself I have no choice to go out there, and that NO MATTER WHAT, no matter how bad the situation seem, no matter how much I overthink and make up bad endings in my head, there is ONE certainty.
At the end of the day, it will be the end of the day.
No matter how bad the day seemed to be, hours would pass, and whatever was stressing me out would be past me soon enough.
Although it seems like it's just embracing the anxiety, and doesn't feel like a step towards fixing anything, it slowly starts the realization that most of what you worry about doesn't actually affect you in any meaningful way.
Sure you had a stressful day, doing that presentation in front of a bunch of people and messed it up because you were so anxious you could barely breathe. But how does it affect you now ? You're back home safe, you're still there, everything is there. It puts that idea in your head that you're not actually in danger, and that thought can only grow, and slowly you will feel less and less anxious.
The joke about hikki is just because it's so terminally online and typical I guess to be using japanese buzzwords for a neet. But twas just a joke.
I took way too long typing this out, but it was on company time, and is a subject I enjoy, so fuck it.
Taskforcem85@reddit
We're you diagnosed as schizoid? It's very common with NEETs.
t2958@reddit
One psych said I either have impulsive or BPD, second said I have Avoidant PD, third and my current says that it's mixed, it's very hard to get properly diagnosed when each doctor you go to might give you a different diagnosis, but I think that my current situation is caused by severe sociophobia starting from childhood, I usually avoid speaking to people out of the fear of them judging me negatively, I don't like when I stand out or get noticed, I cannot give speeches and feel very uncomfortable in any social setting, I avoid looking people in the eyes, so it might be either AvPD or at least avoidant traits of a mixed perspnality disorder. I feel very much lonely but I am too afraid to make new relationships out of the fear of them failing, like they have before I've read that AvPD is comorbid with sociophobia, and can even be considered a more severe form of it, as people with AvPD are usually even more isolated than those with only sociophobia (social anxiety disorder)
Siminity@reddit
clearly you’ve never had 12 beers before
imnota_@reddit
I agree on it being the fault of social media, but don't fully agree with your conclusion.
I think social media pumps the energy out of people, gives them dopamine without having to take risks or give effort, therefore they don't do anything and barely go out of their house. That's the main reason.
Second reason is comparison is the thief of joy, and social media is all about comparing yourself to randoms on the internet cherry picking the best part of their lives and only showing those instants. Plus lots are influencers with brand deals and levels of money we can barely dream of.
But realistically if greentext OP just took action in his life instead of being a bystander it'd be so much more forward in life, but he doesn't for reasons linked to my first point. And then he demoralizes himself even more in the "why even bother trying" mentality because of the second point.
abigfatape@reddit
maybe anon should become an alcoholic and hope he gets in a shitty starter relationship with another alco, not much you can do when you're dumb and ugly
BleachedTree62@reddit
Sounds like OP has clinical depression tbh
outland_king@reddit
Its a self fulfilling situation. He was likely never challenged as a teenager and was bullied in school gor being ugly. Spent a lot of time alone watching anime. Parents never pushed for improvement. This causes Anon to continue to dig deeper and further insulate, which makes him feel unfulfilled. Now he's dwelling on his lack of progress and getting sadder.
Its self inflicted depression, getting a simple project and forcing though it would instill confidence but likely this person will never recover. One small setback and they will crumble back to their goon-cave
imnota_@reddit
I think you're underestimating the "easier said than done" factor, not everybody has the same strength of will.
But otherwise pretty dead on accurate. Only fix is taking actions, even small ones, and feel the satisfaction and confidence that comes from it. And detach yourself from the negatives influences, places of comparison, etc so social media basically.
TheRealHaxxo@reddit
Its funny how many downvotes you got and how many upvotes the person that replied to you got.
What you said is very similar to my situation and my situation is even worse(minus ugly)than the greentext guy. I only very recently understood that im either doing my best to change right now or im most likely doing the sudoku in a couple of months/years depending on how bad my life will escalate.
Just shows you how many regarded people are on reddit lmao.
outland_king@reddit
It's just reddit.
People would rather blame anyone but themselves. I have clinical depression and no amount of medicine or therapy made me feel better, because I was still sitting inside, watch the same anime and shows, playing the same games, watching the same reels, DOING THE SAME THING. And just expecting to get better. Medicine didn't help, it made me care less but didn't make me any happier.
Finally going outside and meeting a geoup of table top players, having other nerds to talk with was what helped, actually socializing in a space place with people who shared my interest was what I needed
TheRealHaxxo@reddit
Im happy that things finally changed for you :).
As the classic went "nothing changes if nothing changes", so thats what im gonna do, actually change for once. Good luck in life man.

GMansButtPlug@reddit
No, the reason you're like this is your parents have enabled you. They never challenged you or pushed you to test your limits and boundaries. In short, they failed you. And then you grew up and failed yourself. The good news is, its never too late to better yourself. Even if its just a little.
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
inb4: anon's problems are of his own making
Yes. But a person like this wouldn't succeed if they tried either. Someone this prone to failure would fail if they tried as well, especially if they started from the state they described. For you reading this, you could probably put in ten units of effort and get ten units of reward. But for this guy, he'd put in ten units of effort and get back one or two units of reward if he didn't manage to fuck it up so bad he was worse off for the attempt. There's a class of people that are genuinely better off not trying because the calories expended in doing so would be a waste and it would achieve little to nothing.. And as society gets more complex and jobs become more complicated to understand and do, that class is going to grow and grow until it becomes an actual problem. idk wtf im talking about tho, im just sayin shit.
Jurekis@reddit
True, but it's the beginning for a lot of processes.
When you start something, you always put more than you receive, because you're unefficient and don't know how to do it properly
Whether it's a new job, hobby or anything, you either swallow the shame of failure and keep moving forward or give up.
It's never better to "not trying", because you achieve nothing. But if you suck at something, then you achieved more than nothing. At least you tried, and that is also experience which can help how not to fuck up next time
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
Some people just don't get enough back for the effort to make it worthwhile. They're better off accepting the rot and cycling dopamine sources until they die.
sharpshooter_243@reddit
Nah this is stupid if you practiced or trained for anything you know you put in way more effort and don’t get the same results as someone who’s good at it. But you learn tricks and become more efficient with your energy and soon enough you’re seeing actual progress and rewards coming your way. That’s literally how life is supposed to work in all categories but this guys problem and also what you’re advocating for is to just never get out of the first stage and just rot away.
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
That's how it works for most people, but some people just aren't capable of getting better at stuff. Whether it's because they're just stupid, or they've solidified their incompetence by not improving or attempting anything through their entire formative years. Some people are better off NEETing and not wasting the effort/getting their hopes up. Rotting away in 2025 is probably a decent existence compared to most humans ever, especially if you just abandon the shame and ignore the guilt you're "supposed" to feel for not being a contributing member of society.
To make it simple: If I tell ten dudes on a bell curve of height to try their best to become basketball players, they all probably are going to improve at the game. But there's about 4-6 guys who, it's a complete waste to even try and they'd be better off learning something else. Some people exist on the bottom of that curve for everything simultaneously.
sharpshooter_243@reddit
You lose me at being at the bottom of the curve at everything simultaneously and it’s probably because your example is a profession that exclusively demands the top .0001% there are millions of jobs that can pick up the bottom of the bell curve. Sometimes when I have to take one of my longer drives there’s a gas station that sells 2 cokes for 4 dollars right by the interstate and there’s always this girl behind the counter who is a zero and out of shape but she can use the cash register that does everything for people nowadays and occasionally mop the floor and that’s a better existence than our NEET friend.
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
Basketball is just an example because I could choose one variable that has a huge factor in success. It doesn't specifically matter. Is that existence really better than jerking off and playing videogames all day? Especially for a man? Even if he just stops caring that he's society's epitomical loser and simply gets his dopamine hits until he dies?
What happens when he goes and gets the equivalent of that job and still has no friends, no romantic prospects, and no meaningful amount of money, but he's losing out on 8 hours of carefree NEETdom and now has to stress about work? The choice isn't that obvious.
sharpshooter_243@reddit
I mean the girl from my example could have a dog at home that loves her more than anything in the world and she uses that money to buy treats and toys for it. That’s an infinitely better existence than bullshitting around on forums or gooning. I was in a bad spot right after high school and was in a similar situation to this guy just sitting on my computer and guess what after three months I know I’ll never go back cause there was no joy even when the dopamine came in. Just a slight lift up out of the darkness before plunging right back in. Get a dog and get a job and you’ll find that there is no more darkness 100%
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
Do you think this guy has the discipline necessary to keep an animal alive and happy? I'm not trying to be pedantic, but I truly think there are some people that are better off not wasting the effort and who have more to gain from abandoning the negative feelings that tend to come with this situation than trying to scratch and claw their way out of it.
sharpshooter_243@reddit
Unless he’s an undiagnosed psychopath I think most people have a natural instinct that when something depends on them for care they step up and take care of it especially when it’s a living creature. If he does have a mental condition that has made him like this then definitely get that figured out first
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
You can care and step up and still fuck up the dog cuz it stepped on a rusty fork covered in cum somehow. Do you really expect this guy to wash and walk a dog? Might as well just take care of the dog in Fallout 4 or something. Just load an old save if it dies.
sharpshooter_243@reddit
Alright well now you’re just fucking around I’ve said my point and if your counter is a “rusty fork with cum on it” then we’re done here.
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
We're still on a greentext sub dude, lol. The point is he'd fuck up taking care of an animal if he even would get enjoyment out of it and it still might not be worth the effort of fixing his life.
sharpshooter_243@reddit
Neither of us have enough information to know how he would do all we can see is that he’s not trying and that was my point
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
My point is trying is more effort than it's worth in some cases
sharpshooter_243@reddit
Considering he defines himself as “the most pathetic person on this board” which is a pretty impressive feat for 4chan. I doubt that to be the truth. Anything’s better than his current predicament and at least he could say he tried.
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
Maybe. But I think some people in this type of situation are better off trying to get rid of the shame associated with it than trying to get out of it.
The_Shittiest_Meme@reddit
if anon was truly as atupid and low IQ as he thinks he is he would not even be introspective about his conidtion. More likely is just untreated depression.
Stolen_Sky@reddit
This is indeed going to be a major problem. As AI and automation improve, there are going to be less and less jobs for people. I read somewhere that as many as 50% of entry level jobs could be replaced by AI in the next decade.
And everyone needs employment. When a nation starts getting large numbers of unemployed people, poverty increases and social unrest with it. You can't have a country where 30% of people have no jobs and no hope of finding them.
This is why we're already looking at things like Universal Basic Income, so even unemployed people can have enough money to live on and hopefully not revolt against the government.
Ck_shock@reddit
Yeah, though problem with universal income is it will make people who can have jobs and find them just choose to not work. At least from how I see it,
MindGoblin@reddit
This is not true. Plenty of studies have been done on this and this doesn't happen. In a recent study they did in Finland I believe it actually showed an increase in productivity in the test subjects.
The whole "UBI doesn't work because people won't do anything and just lay at home" is based on nothing but vibes.
Ck_shock@reddit
I will have to look into these studies myself rather than take your word on it. Though I wouldnt take one sample soze of it working in Finland and then think it could work the same everywhere or in America.
They are diffrent parts of the world with difrent cultures and what not. While we are still all human and saying this worked with this group of humans means it should work with these as well. Doesn't mean it will be as cut and dry.
Trust me in that I'd love for this to be a thing, im just trying to look at in how it could go worst case.
Stolen_Sky@reddit
It depends how it's implemented.
If UBI payed, let's say, minimum wage to everyone, then people could survive without a job. But getting a job would provide you with a much higher quality of life.
Ck_shock@reddit
I understand that, I just feel that without some kind of safe gaurd your going to find a lot of people happy with the bare minimum.
And if people stay on something like this for to long they'll realize that they are now older and lack woek experience or knowledge to get any kind of job that would pay decently.
I agree that its possible for it to work, but we'd have to find the right way to balance it. I know ive seen one way was to charge companies extra in taxes that can go towards paying people like this
Stolen_Sky@reddit
Unemployed people won't be a problem if AI and automation are doing all the jobs.
We're not there yet, but it's certainly possible that in the next few decades there's going to be a transformational shift that makes this possible.
Which_Set_9583@reddit
This is probably true for some, but I think most of the people that self categorize themselves this way are doing so innacurately.
A lot of fairly lucrative, white collar jobs these days don't neccesitate that high of an iq, especially with the abundance of learning resources and knoweldge bases readily at our disosal these days. The amount of fields that don’t require much than rote memorization and a modicum of socialization skills to break and stay in are numerous imo.
I am both low iq and not conventionally atractive yet do well enough for myself.
I think a much bigger indicator of financial success is the socioeconomic status you come from. My parents were supportive and upper middle class. That afforded me a lot of safety nets for the inevitable fuck ups that would result from my abysmal critical thinking skills. The poorer you start out at, the less screw ups you're allowed.
Jiveturtle@reddit
Buddy I don’t know how to break this to you in a way that won’t trash your personal narrative but an actual low iq person isn’t writing that paragraph and lacks the introspection to form the ideas underpinning it
I used to file personal bankruptcies for people and there are people out there who are literally dumber than my herding dog, they just have the dubious in their case gift of speech because they happened to be born human

Ck_shock@reddit
This I got the job I have now because I can do what I'd almost classify as abslout basics with a computer and can do basic math.
Sure I have to talk to people ,but you find as you move up more people are socially awkward than you think. And the more you use this skill the easier it comes.
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
These people have low iq, no social skills, no work ethic, no ability to follow a plan or apply a thought process, and parents who were either absent or incompetent or uncaring enough to allow their child to end up in this position. At some point, you gotta end the run and hope for better RNG, or just give up and cycle porn, games, and doordashed ice cream until you die of a heart attack.
Another factor is, at some point, a person like this would be putting forth what amounts to a herculean effort for them just to not even be average amongst their peers. No one wants to put in the strongest showing they can just to be at the back of the pack and not even get into normalcy.
Which_Set_9583@reddit
I am not denying their existence, just the discrepancy between the amount of people who self identify as such versus how many people actually are this way.
From my personal experience at least
LukeJaywalker0@reddit
Yeah, I was more talking about the general idea of this type of person than this specific anon. Someone who's a little slow and a little ugly can probably make do just fine, assuming most of their life follows a normal trajectory and they're not expecting to be a superstar of anything.

Probably a pet owner dynamic kink.

“Got a gf and all I needed to do was wear this dog collar, and put an animal tail butt plug in while I’m at home”
SpaceBug176@reddit
If you have to do it only at home, you "got off" easy.
Stolen_Sky@reddit
If you had a kink for low IQ wasters playing vidya from the basement all day you would be drowning in bussy.
MaximusTheLord13@reddit
sounds like undiagnosed depression

FrankFarter69420@reddit
You can tell anon isn't an idiot by the way he types. He may very well be ugly, but that's never stopped anyone. Neither has being dumb for that matter. Anon is suffering from zoomer doomerism. It's always been a fucked up world, but now you can see all of it everywhere played out in real time.
hardwood1979@reddit
I know a lot of ugly stupid people anon a lot of them have jobs, shit jobs granted. If you're American find a place that's just been raided by ICE and ask for a job.
Remarkable_Plum3527@reddit

hardwood1979@reddit
The place has just been raided they'll be good for a few weeks at least and if they raid again at least anon will get to travel.

Jurekis@reddit
At some point it comes to self shutting.
They say how it's all because they're ugly and dumb, but you can still work and have basic social life with those traits, not to mention that this opinion comes most probably from lack of self care and confidence.
They could improve their life. But they believe they can't, so they won't
Historical-Noise-723@reddit
I hate defeatists with all of my might
RuinSentinelRicce@reddit
Anon needs to go find a job digging or something. Dont need much iq to dig a trench
tarmagoyf@reddit
Anon is living the dream and doesn't even know it.
AbortionBulld0zer@reddit
Majority of people don't realise the struggle some of the depressed people have to live a basic life.
It's a steep path as the illness progresses and I think many mentally fucked people can relate

Skidblaze@reddit
Take the IQ pill
Branceratops@reddit
Oh woe is me, ahhhhh ohhhh.
StructurePlane2144@reddit
OP does not understand the power of free will.
OP therefore believe his predetermined traits determine the outcome of his life.
OP will never understand that he is Low IQ as a result of not doing anything, not the other way around.
OP has self induced depression, low self esteem, and low IQ.
This is all his fault and sadly it seems he will never realise it’s in his power to change things around.
kpingvin@reddit
But muh society
girlgamerpoi@reddit
Oh man anyone else is working and just want to be a shutin neet? I can't have enough free indoor, non people seeing time!
EquivalentSnap@reddit
Anon I've been there and you don't have low iq. You just stagnant and stuck in cycle where nothing matters. Go to college and look for work. Pick off where you left of after high school. Find your purpose in life
EntertainerBright793@reddit
Own it loser
incsus@reddit
Thats on anon he needs to get an outside hobby and apply to a basic job
BigKingKey@reddit
Not to argue with anon but truly stupid people lack the ability to be depressed, because they’re so stupid. It must be fucking dope
