Visiting recs

Have some airline credits I need to use, and finally a free weekend without obligations. What are some fun tourist things to do for someone visiting for 4 nights and 5 days. Will be traveling as a single adult. I love Texas and have always wanted to move here, so visiting also for relocation purposes in the future. Thanks in advance!

Nobody asked, but here’s my unsolicited update! I just got back from my trip, and it was a nice solo vacation!
I loved the people, the food, and the gas prices were phenomenal! It pained me to come back to nearly $5 a gallon paying $2.55 in some places in Texas lol!
Here are some of my highlights and quick review of my main stops:
📍Fort Worth Zoo ⭐️. 📍Dallas Comedy Show ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍Fossil Rim ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️x a billion. One of the best tours I’ve ever had. Highly recommend the Behind-the-Scene’s tour. Left a very positive review on Google! 📍Dinosaur Valley State Park ⭐️⭐️⭐️(3.5). Very helpful and kind staff. Free admission for military! 📍Dallas Aquarium ⭐️⭐️. 📍Dealey Plaza ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Temporary free admission for military! 📍Perot Museum ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Free admission for military. Movie and Bugs Labs better for kids not adults. 📍Reunion Tower ⭐️⭐️. Took good photos that are free to download with print ($) options. Military discount on admission.
Thank you all.

There's lots to do, ignore the other poster. I'd aim to spend one day in downtown Dallas, one day is downtown Fort Worth, in the northern suburbs, one day in Glen Rose, and one day at the state fair if you can time your trip right. I can give you suggestions for each of these days, but it would help if I knew your interests.

Thank you so much! Honestly, I travel a lot to see the culture and try out good food! I’ve been to 33 states! I would LOVE to go to Big Bend but will have to come back for that. When does it shut down? I have my companion ticket I’ll want my best friend to come with me to there since we like hiking together! Any tips are appreciated. I just booked to land Thursday around 1730. Will pick up my rental at DFW. Drop off my stuff at my hotel at DFW and then hope to get a nice dinner somewhere. I like comedy shows a lot too so maybe they will have one on Thursday night?

First off on BB, Marfa is probably the most unique culture in Texas and near BB. Chisos Basin was originally supposed to shut down last May, but they keep pushing it off. I think the current closure is sometime in spring 2026. Either get there quick or add it to the bucket list in a few years.
For the DFW leg, have you considered ditching the car for a few days and staying in downtown Dallas? Honestly you can get most places using transit, at least for the first 3 days. You can get a much more interesting and central hotel in downtown at a place like the Joule, Magnolia or Statler. You can catch the train from DFW and get to downtown Dallas in about the same time as an Uber.
Regarding comedy, the two best clubs I know of (I'm a dad of young kids so I don't get out much) are Hyena's at Mockingbird and Dallas Comedy House. Both have shows this Thursday and coincidently can be accessed by train closer than you could park! I also suggest catching a show at the Pocket Sandwich Theatre, which is an easy walk from downtown Carrollton station.
If you are interested in trying the public transit route let me know. That would guide any further suggestions.

Thank you that is good info! I booked my hotel already out a ways, and got a car understanding I would probably spend some time actually in Dallas and then look around to possible suburbs for potential relocation purposes. I also have some friends that live in Texas I might visit! Have you ever done the Cowboys Stadium tour by chance? Thinking of pre-paying for that to get a souvenir for my family members that are fans of them!

Cool, I can't really help you too much if you're hanging out in the burbs. Cowboys Stadium tour is really fun!

No worries! Your input has been very valuable! I have a loose itinerary going. I got some ideas going on the City Pass site too! 😊

Food, culture, and history are my top three. I want to go to shows, hear from local residents etc. I’ll have a rental so I can drive around. I’ve been to Austin/San Antonio and Houston already. Loved them all. Texas has always been my fave states out of 33 I’ve visited!

4 days/ 5 nights is way too long to visit DFW. Honestly there isn’t that much to do or see. If you’re coming down this week from the Pacific Northwest be prepared for the heat, it’s around 100 with the humidity. There are so many other places to visit besides Texas.

I love the heat! It’s one of my fave things about Texas > PNW. I am not your typical PNWer (though there’s nothing wrong with it). I’m from a very Christian conservative area - so I’ve always been drawn to Texas. I will have a rental car. Have previously visited (Austin and drove down to San Antonio last year) and been in Houston a couple years back for a conference.
