World Health Organization warns of epidemic threat as dangerous virus spreads: 'We are seeing history repeating itself'. Right now, an estimated 5.6 billion people across 119 countries are at risk of contracting the virus as it spreads to Europe and other continents, per Reuters.

Can we just destroy all mosquitoes already?
zuneza@reddit
They are a huge food source for many creatures. Eliminating them in an area eliminates any desire for creatures that rely on it to survive to habitat those areas. Eliminating mosquitoes outright could cause ecosystem collapse for a variety of living organisms, likely including humans.
IGnuGnat@reddit
I find your conclusion dubious
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
mosquitos were not native to all of north America until Europeans brought them here.
Jig0ku@reddit
Not really honestly.
Iirc only a very tiny percent of them harm humans, and deleting them would have relatively small consequences for the food chain. Not null, but very small.
Sounds like a small price to pay to eradicate the only species in the world that killed more humans than the humans themselves (and God knows we tried very hard to get that first place).
I also sincerely believe that declaring world war on mosquitoes would achieve world peace (for a time)
averagelatinxenjoyer@reddit
Really honestly. This is not up for discussion.
https://www.binghamton.edu/news/story/5513/insects-are-disappearing-due-to-agriculture-and-many-other-drivers-new-research-reveals
Jig0ku@reddit
Your link has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation at hand - if anything, it proves even more how inconsequential it is in the grand scheme of things, since there are other drivers that are more important to take care of when it comes to insects.
Again, there may be between 200 and 300 mosquitoes species that bite humans specifically (and transmit deadly diseases in the process), out of est. 3700 mosquitoes species. So about 8% of them
We don’t need to kill them even. We could just crossbreed them so that they are not intrested in humans anymore.
As for what humans generally care about, again, nothing to do with the conversation at hand.
So, all in all: not really.
BayouGal@reddit
Mosquitoes are also pollinators.
Jetshadow@reddit
I'm fairly certain nature will adapt. We have genocided plenty of species accidentally, this one is worth it to be purposeful.

Wait, what? Can't help but feel....this is intentional -_- once again. They WANT a major disaster.
TacoMullet@reddit
I hope it is clear that everything they are doing, is designed to cull a population.
atari-2600_@reddit
Cannot upvote this hard enough. It seems pretty obvious at this point that there’s a plan to reduce population, by disease and increasing poverty. In the U.S. this is completely blatant - they aren’t even trying to hide what they’re doing. Why most people can’t seem to grasp this is beyond me.
Pap3rStreetSoapCo@reddit
…except they aren’t trying to reduce population. If they were, they’d allow abortions, push birth control, and promote taking climate change seriously instead of defunding and decommissioning groups and technologies that inform us about the coming (and already ongoing) consequences of our overpopulation.
They simply don’t give a shit if people die, so long as they are getting their slave labor and absolute domination of the available wealth and resources.
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
Incorrect, they want thew population to embrace becoming a slave to live. This is all about reeducation, they want people to choose to be a slave.
che85mor@reddit
Reduce the population by killing off the fragile, disabled, and elderly. Basically accelerating the natural selection process. Keep those around that are healthy and can be farmed for production jobs.
Pap3rStreetSoapCo@reddit
Sure, this actually makes sense, killing off the undesirables…so the end goal is not actually population reduction, but eliminating as many of the drains on society as possible. Full-blown Nazi shit.
che85mor@reddit
Yeah, some of them have been talking about population control for 20 years or more. This is just an easy way to do it without getting blood on their hands. Just side effects of terrible decision making is what history will boil it down to.
Sufficient-Grass-@reddit
It's not to cull, it's to control.
Fear allows more military control.
If a few die, a few die.
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
No, they want a cull. Seniors, sick, disabled, black or brown they want dead or enslaved. If you are not rich and are on this list they want you to be fertilizer. Project 2025 calls for a 33% reduction in population. This is its solution to things like medicare and SS. One of its side goals is to reduce the average age of Americans to 33. Doing this would reduce SS payments by 90%. Next year will be interesting and it is very possible that a huge population segment of America won't survive the next 3.
If you are not aware of the reason for the India trade war it was to stop over 50% of medication reaching America. This is also one of the base reasons the de minimis exemption was removed on international shipping. To intercept medications. Watch prices on things like insulin double or triple within 2 years. Soon things like insulin, antibiotics and vaccines might pay better to smuggle into America than cocaine.
djjd2244@reddit
I disagree, the elite don’t need to keep the façade up, they’ve stolen everything they can from us, now they can just get rid of the poors that they dont care about
fireisborn-@reddit
The sad part is that I would say the overwhelming majority of people are happy just to be docile and controlled
PoorClassWarRoom@reddit
They call us 'eaters' and parasites. They attack our social support systems because "they subsidized wastefulness," Musk.
Peter Thiel point blank said democracy isn't freedom because it limits the tech bros. Who suffers when democracy is replaced with oligarchs and fascist? We are a waste to them by their own admission.
Miller wants all non-white to be to serve or die. Tbf, it's always been a project against black communities.
They're torturing and killing people in their newly minted concentration camps. They know Alligator Alcatraz is prone to flooding and have potentially disease carrying mosquitoes.
They are destroying the education system. Studies directly connect mortality to education.
There are so many examples. They want you producing or dead. There is no in-between with these failures of humanity.
TacoMullet@reddit
Fear is keeping people docile as cattle (mostly). While they work to cull the weak, and those that resist control. Afterwards they can rewrite history, and warp the minds of future generations.
Sufficient-Grass-@reddit
The wealthy and educated are more likely to get vaccinated though.
A vaccine ban stops this.
Viruses don't discriminate against poor or wealthy, although yes the wealthy can afford better medical treatment.
One_Half226@reddit
Imagine still thinking the elite wealthy are using the same healthcare and queue line for care as anyone else LOL
Sufficient-Grass-@reddit
I don't think there will be private stashes of vaccine.
Call me naive.
One_Half226@reddit
You are naive.
They likely have access to health therapies and treatments you've never even heard of because you will never be anywhere near the tax bracket they exist in. You can probably barely afford organic food if you're the average person and I promise their diets and supplements alone put their immune systems miles ahead of yours before we even discuss vaccines.
Sufficient-Grass-@reddit
I am actually not, I understand corporate.
Big pharma aren't going to produce something in small batch without government backing.
There's no profit in it, so they will just re tool to make extra horse tranq or whatever RFK is pulling out of his asshole.
mosesoperandi@reddit
Yeah, that was some weapons grade conspiracy theory stuff being thrown your way.
What the billionaire class will have access to that regular Americans won't will be treatments developed overseas as we have thrown American biomedical research in the dumpster.
One_Half226@reddit
"Weapons grade conspiracy" = I need to be told what to think and anything off script deserves a down vote and some social shame!
It's right in your face there's nothing conspiracy about it. The only thing conspiracy is how people like you can still put their head in the sand instead of starting a dialogue about the truth.
mosesoperandi@reddit
The lack of understanding is thinking that biomedical research is somehow taking place exclusively for the billionaires now. This administration has shut down all of that research because it was taking place at the universities where they have been withholding the grant funding that drives that research. They didn't juat a duty those researchers and stand up secret black ops research sites so that only they will have these new procedures. They brought all of that work to a grinding halt.
The wealthiest will have access to treatments that the rest of us won't be able to get, but those treatments will be developed and administered outside of the United States since the rest of the world isn't arresting scientific progress in order to destroy their current form of government and replace it with fascism for dummies.
One_Half226@reddit
The lack of understanding for YOU is thinking private biomedical research ISNT somehow taking place for people who live miles above the law and purchase politicians and elections.
I'm starting to think the ones who are still unable to see it all and admit truths are purposely looking away and I just don't know what the solution is here. How is it fair for us to keep sitting around waiting for y'all? Genuinely?
One_Half226@reddit
You still don't understand the simple fact that the wealthy are not using the same systems as we do so there's no real point in continuing the debate.
You're not understanding anything least of all corporate or pharma. Your opinions are rooted in fallacy.
Slfestmaccnt@reddit
You are naive. Did you forget most rich don't even consider themselves as having a nationality? They have all the money and can go wherever they like. So maybe you heard this one, no abortions for the commoners but the rich just "discreetly" fly their families to other states and countries to get that treatment where its still available, and then they make a vacation of it.
The same people who have been pushing banning abortion are very often the same fuckers who fly their family members to other countries to get it done instead. Rules for the poors, the "human capital stock" as that republican once said on the news.
They will go where it is available, and they will make a vacation out of it while we just die to it here.

So some think that the apocalypse is launched once certain elements are met like these special red bulls in Israel. Fun fact, Isreal is part of a lot of prophecies so they want the US to have control.
They can either wait for God to make it happen or make it happen faster during their lifetime by aligning things themselves.
tumble895@reddit
Whats the special red bull?
msfuturedoc@reddit
5 red heifers that must meet very specific requirements. There is a guy in Texas that breeds this type only and five of them were sent to Israel a few weeks ago when Mike Johnson and other members of Congress were out there during this recess. There is a link to a site that explains it pretty succinctly. I just need to find it. I think after super thorough inspection they didn’t end up passing tho, so they won’t be able to be used. Yes it's only transmissible via mosquito bite - there are enough concerning diseases etc that are becoming more common, that bug sprays or avoidance are a good idea, even if the risk is small compared to more easily transmitted diseases.

(She was going through a really stressful time, it was her senior year of college and her useless drunk of a mother was going through alcoholic psychosis at the same time) I didn’t think it was stress, even as someone who has dealt with chronic illness directly due to stress. I know someone who got Chikungunya. They went from mobile and active to immobile within a day. Could not even turn on the bed without help. The tests for malaria, dengue, and most other common illnesses in their region all kept coming back negative. They were in the hospital for over a week and were given fever suppressants by IV because nothing else helped.
When they finally tested positive for Chikungunya during mid-stay, their doctor was relieved.
Post-discharge, it took the m several months to get back to normal.
That virus is BAD.

The problem with this one is it can be debilitating and last for weeks to months. There is also increasing evidence it causes issues for fetuses, like Zika.
While this is not as urgent or deadly as COVID for the global populations, I wouldn’t write it off. This sounds like a painful infection that might be difficult to contain if it gets into mosquito populations in your area.
