Staying in school forever?

Is it possible to skirt paying by staying in school forever, taking many classes over years, automatically having loans both deferred & taken out every year? I heard there is a lifetime limit for associate's level, but does that continue for higher levels? I know someone who been in college since 1996 at a variety of places & getting loans and apparently hasn't started paying yet, and is still enrolled!

Naw, in order to have financial aid, you need a good GPA, and eventually, you'll automatically get your degree. You can't just fail all your classes permanently. Would be nice though, right?

I don't mean failing. I have been taking & passing classes for 4.5 years now and still am in undergrad. I have an AS in one degree and decided to change majors to one requiring mostly classes I didn't have before, like calculus & programming.

There's a limit on how long they'll give you loans or pell, even if you're not hitting the lifetime financial award cap.
If you hit the time/award cap, and want to keep student status, you could find a really cheap community college and take part-time classes out of pocket (because for some people, that tuition cost is still more affordable than loan payments for the same amount of time.)

TIL I can just go to school without financial aid and not need to pay on my financial aid loans.
