I don't think the US understands the cartels in the least. If they think they'll be afraid of 4500 men, even armed men, Mexico has already tried that and lost. They're organized, they're incredibly well armed and supplied and they have zero fucks to give. This is going to end horribly if they end up clashing.
ContentLab9833@reddit
Cartels are business organizations and like all businesses they’ll adapt. They’re not in it for wars, it’s money. They will create new routes and modes of operations. This is just a weak man with the power to use the military
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
They’re more concerned with the drones that can put a missile into a dinner plate from 50,000 feet. Forgetting the capability of the US military
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
The Cartels aren't stupid, and there's plenty of shit online about how to build drone-jammers.
One of the hacker cons this year even had someone detail how to build your own drone-detecting radar for about $1000. I think that's well within their operating budget.
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
So these build your own radars are going to jam an MQ9 reaper at 40,000 to 50,000 feet? Sounds like a fantastic investment for $1000
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
Okay... here's how it works...
If some rando hacker can figure out how to build a small radar device for tracking drones for only $1000... then what do you think a Cartel with millions of dollars can get ahold of? Maybe some actual military radar from a corrupt officer? >!(Also it also doesn't jam them, that's a separate thing you can make, but you're currently too up your own ass to think clearly).!<
And that's not even getting to the laughable idea that the US has pinpoint coordinates on the location of all the important cartel members.
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
You’d be a fantastic fiction writer. Give Jack Carr a call maybe you can pen the next James Reece novel
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
I'm not the one who thinks the US is going to drone-strike every cartel member off the face of the earth all while the cartel stands helpless and unable to do anything.
Mexico isn't fucking Afghanistan, no matter how racist you want to be about it. They have access to all the same technology exists in the US, which puts them on par with the technological capabilities of the US military, because acquisition of specialist equipment is more a matter of money and time than anything else.
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
Brother they do not have access to the same technology as the US military lol. Are they heavily armed? Yes. Do they have military grade weapons and explosives and vehicles? Yes. Do they have access to the same technology as the most advanced military on the planet? Not even remotely close and there’s no way you can actually say that with a straight face
Fancy_Exchange_9821@reddit
Too add on to your point I literally have better technology than the mexican cartels as an American civilian lol 😂 gen 3 nods and 640 core thermal monoculars, I’d argue 99.9% of the cartel soldiers don’t have night fighting capabilities or even suppressed weapons
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
Tell that to this other dude that seems to think they pull from the DEVGRU armory
Fancy_Exchange_9821@reddit
😂😂 yeah a JSOC team against some cartel members with AK’s at night are going to be wrecking havoc. that is, if there’s any members left after a reaper drone vaporizes a compound at 30,000 feet without them even knowing they were about to get hit
Sightline@reddit
It's all fun and games until the cartel starts planting IEDs on I-35.
Fancy_Exchange_9821@reddit
Yeah, and then the US drone strikes every known cartel compound inside mexico without mexicos own permission. The cartels aren’t suicidal and they aren’t ideologically driven. They’re just terrorists that do inhumane things to innocent people in broad daylight and deserve death. Take it from someone who knows people who have been affected by these cartels directly
Sightline@reddit
They will be real quick when an airstrike inevitably kills one of their wives, sons or daughters.
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
You two think that they can't possibly get night vision, despite Mexico literally being right next to the US.
Like, you know how commerce works right? That people from their can buy the same things that exist in the US? Possibly even from people in the US (whether directly or through a straw purchase).
Fancy_Exchange_9821@reddit
If you knew how commerce works you would know what ITAR is and how unlikely it is that Mexico has generation 3 night vision devices (anything not gen 3 is pretty trash). Not to mention, if that’s the case, why don’t mexican cartels own f-16s? reaper drones? ospreys? there’s lots of things money can’t buy lol
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
You seem to think you are special. Anything money can buy they have if they think they need it. While no one, including cartels, are not wary of drones to say they worry about it or cannot deal with them is folly. The instant trump starts a war with cartels it will be on American streets. But it will not be like you think. They are not stupid. They will first take out what allows trump to be in power in the first place. Every red state leadership. They will simply kill them all and very quickly. They undoubtedly will also take out a few independents and democrats but that will simply be because wrong place wrong time.
They will take out every GOP federal congress member too. They don't have to lift a finger taking out trump, the Democrats would do it for them. How long would it take? a week probably. See, you think it is all about the military fighting them, it isn't and they know it. In most states the Governor chooses the replacement for a sitting representative or senator if they die in office. If that person happens to be a Democrat do you really think they will appoint a GOP member under trump? Not a chance. Trump would be impeached within a day of a Democrat majority and removed from office the next day with a majority Senate. This is where numbers comes into play. Kill every GOP member in office and what remains? Democrats who dislike the current administration. Pretty easy to get that majority when the only ones alive are Democrats.
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
What technology do you think the US has that they don't?
They build their own home-made submarines for smuggling coke into the US. They're not exactly without resources, or resourcefulness.
And you can quite easily buy a radar dish designed for tracking drones that's the size of a garbage can (though it 'only' has a range of 16,000 feet, this is also just an example of what you can find with google and 30 minutes of time). Do you think the cartels don't have internet access?
https://www.robinradar.com/products/iris-radar
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
Fantastic in your world they can track a reaper. Then what? Can’t shoot it down. And in the same vein, they don’t have access to military drones like the MQ9 so therefore they don’t have the same technology. That’s 1 of 1000 different examples
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
Do they need those things to kill US troops, or do they just need to do what Ukrainians did and strap explosives to hobby drones?
It's like you've been living in a cave for the last 3 years.
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
You just said they have access to the same technology which couldn’t be further off - don’t backtrack now. Lmk when they have an AIM missile or any of the other options military can deploy
wwaxwork@reddit
Billions. They make 50 billion a year just on drugs. Trumps just going over them because he wants a cut.
stockmonkeyking@reddit
You’re a dumbass
Fancy_Exchange_9821@reddit
Brother a mexican cartel isn’t escaping a reaper drone or a ac130 at 20,000 feet in the air and it certainly isn’t jamming it 😂
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
You really don't get it. When a cartel wants something they simply hire the best and mass produce it. They already have drone jammers and 5k fiber run drones. If trump attacks them you will see nothing happen until it does and then everything happening within a day. Think about it. Worldwide there are 50 million mercenaries that will happily work for 1k a day. All races, all nationalities. It only takes 20 people to take out a military base if they get onto it and there are a lot of military members who can be bought for 350k, a really hot hooker, a kilo of coke, a gun to the head of their kid or wife, or a new car.
If you think a cartel or a few of them won't pay or do what it takes to survive you clearly have not paid attention to Mexico.
wwaxwork@reddit
You think they can't afford military grade equipment They make a 50 BILLION dollar a year and that's just in drug sales. There are only 1000 or so legitimate companies in the entire world that make 1 Billion dollars a year. They don't need a radio shack home made drone jammer, they've bought military ones, probably a US one that fell off the back of a truck.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
They're not concerned with any of that because the US hasnt won a protracted guerilla conflict since at least 1950.
They literally use the USMC as a recruitment and training tool. They only need to give an excuse to suspend elections.
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
Has any nation won a guerilla war in the time period you’re referencing? The soviets didn’t have much success in Afghanistan. Tough to root an enemy out when it’s the entire population. In the case of cartels it’s likely that US intelligence has the exact gps coordinated of every single important figure and can erase them with the press of a button. It can be argued that somebody else will just replace but this isn’t the Taliban
Live_Canary7387@reddit
Russian in Chechnya, but they demonstrated that it requires extreme brutality and disregard for human lives to achieve.
Koraxtheghoul@reddit
Chinese is Cambodia as well?
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
If not you make my point for me. The goal isn't to win. It's to present an excuse to suspend elections.
You mean the CISA who just got defunded or the CIA/NSA who just fired all their competent members for not kissing the sphincter?
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
God bless, hope it all works out for you
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Hope's a terrible strstegy. That's why we prep. Govt doesn't care about you. You're a resource to use and burn, just like Virginis Guiffre.
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
Oh I’m not worried and don’t need to hope. Also as Joe Biden said, an AR15 isn’t stopping an F35 if the government turns on the citizens
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Nat Guard carry M4A2s, and Joe Biden didn't turn anything military on US citizens.
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
Not defending any body in the government who has lied to and been against the American people since the Vietnam war but come back to me in 12 months when this all blows over and there’s no violent incidents
ParkingConcern8848@reddit
Friend what weapons have been turned on US citizens in the last 2 weeks
fchw3@reddit
Right. The marines won’t be entering until the coast is clear… literally.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
... theyre referring to retaliation within US borders. You forget the cartels use the USMC as a recruitment and training tool.
fchw3@reddit
Got it
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
To do what? Stop selling beef thst is already being taxed enough that prices rose 43% in 3 months?
fchw3@reddit
Google it man, it’s been posted by many different sources.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Cite it for me. I'm genuinely curious.
fchw3@reddit
So I cite the source and you go hide in your shell?
fchw3@reddit
Let me stop trolling 😂
You may/may not like the source but literally every source is saying the same thing… or they’re silent:
https://nypost.com/2025/08/23/world-news/venezuelan-president-nicolas-maduro-claims-us-destroyer-deployment-is-regime-change-attempt/
fchw3@reddit
sure thing
HappyAnimalCracker@reddit
Aren’t they sitting on an awful lot of oil? And isn’t that oil nationalized?
fchw3@reddit
Yes and yes. You know ball.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
So another 22 years of protracted guerilla warfare over oil? An interesting best case scenario.
ConstantMango672@reddit
And people forget how much money they have and spend... I mean spend on recruitment, training, vehicles, weapons, drones and other technology. This isn't the taliban lol
YeetedApple@reddit (OP)
I think that might actually be intentional. Given the amount of people and resources the cartels already have inside of America, it could likely bring serious violence to American cities to the point people will accept a military presence in the streets for security at that point, and trump now has his pretext for martial law.
Then again, I wouldnt be surprised if he is walking into a disaster with no larger plan, so its hard to say.
kismethavok@reddit
The cartel's won't escalate until they hit the point of no return. They know full well that if it really came down to it the US military vs Cartels is a hydrogen bomb vs a coughing baby.
wwaxwork@reddit
Everyone thought the US had a plan going into Iraq and Afghanistan and look how well that turned out.
Bozhark@reddit
They had a plan and enacted it.
Pretending they didn’t was a guide for the plan, rebuilding.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
If trying to stop drug cartels brings that level of violence to American cities, isn’t fighting the cartels a worthy goal? Seems like you’re just ready to throw up your hands and say, “yeah, they’re already here so we may as well surrender”
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Suspending US elections is not a worthy goal, no lmfao.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
What the fuck idiocy are you on about? How does deploying less than 5,000 troops lead to suspension of elections?
Bellamysghost@reddit
Ever heard of context? Trump was gloating about being able to suspend elections during war time with Zelenskyy. Did you miss that?
johnnyringo1985@reddit
Apparently I did. Especially since Zelensky is the one who did in fact suspend elections, not Trump. Have a link to citation that claim?
pen15_club_admin@reddit
It’s in ukraines constitution to not have elections during wartime. Not like zelensky decided to not do elections on his own.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
I get that. I’m still waiting for a citation to Trump “gloating about it” in a way implying he wanted the same thing, as the comment suggested, in contrast to just commenting on that fact when meeting with Zelensky
Bellamysghost@reddit
https://youtube.com/shorts/UYhyKYn5DHY?si=iPRnin1hGMk8BSVz
Here’s your citation. Whenever he “jokes” about something he’s planning to do it. We’re not stupid, we see through you all. The revolution will remain bloodless if the left allows it, amiright?
johnnyringo1985@reddit
Or maybe he was just trying to make a rhetorical point about the lack of democratic accountability in Ukraine under a regime he doesn’t like by making an analogy to the US in front of the generally-hostile press corps.
Probably the thing you said. That’s definitely more likely.
theendisneah@reddit
PDF file supporters are weird.
Bellamysghost@reddit
I mean if you have less than 3 brain cells you would see that’s what that blabbering baffon meant. You all think you’re so clever and can’t see when he’s about to pull a fast one but you’re all transparent as hell. Just like when you idiots claimed project 2025 wasn’t real, you all knew it was and just didn’t mind didn’t being treasonous scum. Same now. Now shoo, I’m done talking to you traitor
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
17,000 including numerous warships and another 20+DC states worth of Nat Guard to supress opinions at home.
It's gonna be nothing at all or a ballroom blitz.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
No sources for any of those pretty grandiose claims? you better hope you don’t get black bagged for connecting those dots and seeing the truth
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Tulsi Gabbard already fired everyone competent for not kissing the sphincter.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
lol what do you think that document shows? You realize that’s from when Tulsi was serving in Congress as a Democrat, right moron?
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
What? I literally said what that document shows... reread the comment. Holy shit that's a Florida education if ever there was one.
Intrepid_Ad_3031@reddit
Already forgetting about Vietnam.
If you are going to embark in a military engagement, it needs to be all or nothing.
Pussyfooting about doesnt accomplish anything. If Amercan lives are lost and you dont eradicate the cartels, it is absolutely not worth it.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
So…..you’re for conquering Mexico or just surrendering to drug traffickers? Interesting position to take
Intrepid_Ad_3031@reddit
Middle ground? You mean fighting the war on drugs at home by arresting drug users, like we have been doing for the last 50 years? Great idea.
Im for legalizing all drugs and regulating them, as thats the only way to take the power from the cartels.
If not, send in the whole fucking military. Why else are we spending hundreds of billions of dollars a year on our military if we aren't going to get our money's worth?
Either way, you are just being a twat to be contrarian. Your only idea is "agree with whatever my dear leader says."
johnnyringo1985@reddit
I absolutely agree with you. Any country that can’t manage its shit, and has its people flock to the US claiming asylum deserves to be re-colonized. The US should go re-colonize Mexico and Central America until we can fix the humanitarian crisis that causes both the existence of cartels and the mass exodus of people to the US. Anything short of that is a half-measure.
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
The US caused most of this instability by spending the last 75 years knocking over governments and organizing death-squads like the Contras.
YeetedApple@reddit (OP)
You do realize there are other options besides war right?
johnnyringo1985@reddit
What are the other options?
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Release the Epstein files?
johnnyringo1985@reddit
You don’t think showered inappropriately with his underage daughter Biden would have released files if they existed?
Bellamysghost@reddit
Is Biden president? Don’t you think he may be less willing to release them if his buddies are also implicated? I see Trump supporters haven’t heard of mutually assured destruction, wouldn’t expect them too they can barely read apparently
johnnyringo1985@reddit
So is your claim that (1) Biden didn’t have the Epstein files, (2) Biden did have the files, but mutually assured destruction, so nah, or (3) Biden had the files, but MAD so nah, and Trump claimed he would release the files, but only later remembered he had all the sex with underage women and was himself in the files?
Bellamysghost@reddit
So then release them if he’s not in them.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
I mean, they’ve tried to release the grand jury testimony and it has been blocked by an Obama appointed judge and then two different Biden appointed judges, so..
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
According to him he released all there was including the Lolita Express's manifest. 10 trips to Epstein's Island for Trump and Trump's own DOJ confirmed it as authentic.
Now Trump said he was hiding more and would release them. Campaigned on it. Bondi and Noem both said they had personal copies of the client list.
Where is it? Where is Virginia Guiffre?
johnnyringo1985@reddit
Okay, so you’re imaging that the Occam’s razor here is on one hand (A) the Biden admin and Democrats who did everything they could to target Trump including looking at every loan he every had, decided to withhold any salacious info from the Epstein files while Biden was President, is somehow more likely than (B) a guy known for grandiose claims made a big claim based on zero knowledge that didn’t pan out? You don’t logic good, huh?
-Calm_Skin-@reddit
Stop apologizing for child rapists.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
Child rapists? Got any evidence for that claim? If not, maybe you could explain how 99% of the time you think Trump and his folks are full of shit, but this one time, it’s the one time ever they knew what they were saying, but also forgot that Trump went to Epstein Island all the time.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Neither of those are close to the truth. Biden was a coward who slow walked a literal coup and now we have Federal Troops creating a police state in 20 states plus DC as a result while he threatens another potentially 22 yesr insurgency we'll lose.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
Okay. So you’re here on this thread claiming that deploying troops to the carribean is somehow martial law, while citing violence from cartels in US cities. But also saying that deploying national guard in states and cities with cartel presence, in another post, is somehow about suspending elections. Which is it? Is it a bunch of activity that is actually related that is likely to trigger cartel backlash, or just a bunch of cloak and dagger for suspending elections?
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
No, none of that is close to true. I'm claiming Trump Federalized Nat Guard in 20 states plus DC. Trump is in the Epstein Files. Trump is threatening Venezuela as an act to facilitate both.
-Calm_Skin-@reddit
If President Trump doesn’t release all of the files, he is in them. Child rapist. I want every file released and everyone in them convicted because I don’t belong to a cult. If Biden is a child rapist, convict him. What do find difficult to understand?
Cultural-Company282@reddit
Attorney General Pam Bondi literally said they were sitting on her desk. Was she lying? If they don't exist, why would Trump let her lie like that?
johnnyringo1985@reddit
Probably overstating what existed. She probably asked some clerk for “everything that they had” and had that on her desk. The comment probably came from a place of ignorance.
He probably thought something similar. Are you a Trump fan, or do you think he plays fast and loose with the facts? If so, why does this surprise you?
KenGriffinsMomSucks@reddit
Ah yes, another one of you pedophiles and your whataboutism.
Why did trump campaign on releasing them? Why did bondi say they were on her desk waiting for her to review? Why did they all of a sudden say they dont exist? Why did they start having meetings with Ghislane Maxwell? Why did she now get moved to a nice cush prison in Texas?
I know you won't actually answer any of those questions, you'll just pull more whataboutism bullshit.
johnnyringo1985@reddit
They reviewed Trump’s private (non-governmental) business loans to look for grounds to prosecute him. But somehow yall imagine there’s an indexed Epstein files, and no one from the Biden admin thought to see if Trump was in there?
To answer your questions: (1) Trump said he’d release the files because he thought that would be easy to do. (2) Bondi said that because she, like Trump, plays fast and loose, and with the demands of being AG for the US didn’t actually review what existed before making the claim. (3) To see what nice, easy, and concise info they could glean. (4) In exchange for any nice, easy, and concise info extracted.
Go listen to The Free Press’s podcast about Epstein. That’s the most likely scenario with all this nonsense.
DisastrousHyena3534@reddit
At this point maybe the cartels will release the Epstein files 🤷♀️
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Ah then that would explain the task force!
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
The cartels would counterattack and they are smart. Anyone who thinks a large cartel is run without clear goals and real intelligence is a fool. I was asked once what the most probable retaliation of a cartel attack by trump would be and this is what was wargamed up by myself and a few friends.:
First, they would not attack the Federal offices, they would wipe out every GOP state congressional member and government officer like Governor and down nationwide.
They would block then destroy every major bridge, long stretch highway, and railway and simultaneously take out every almost police helicopter in the country. They have no beef with American civilians and would make that clear by doing this.
Then they would hit every fuel depot close to any military installation and every civilian radar facility. Today, they would probably take out most military radar facilities as well and most military aviation fuel depots via drones.
At that point they would then attack DC with somewhere north of 300,000 armed men. And if you think this would be difficult for them to do you are deluding yourselves. People like to say North Korea has the largest standing army but in reality it is the cartels. They{ the top ten cartels in the world} have over 20 million soldiers worldwide. Speculation leads most people to believe they have 350,000 cartel members in America right now just in the top 3 cartels here. And since they pay rather well you can bet if they start recruiting they could double that number overnight.
matadorius@reddit
Haha lol you can’t be serious
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
Well, I guess we may see how closely that wargame follows real life soon enough. It will really depend on which cartel trump attacks first. Some understand politics and money much better and some simply use force. There is a real why every real American general warned him not to start a real war with cartels. They pay ten times what the military does and do not have rules, only results matter to them. I would not want to be a GOP state or federal congress member if he does attack them though. Not even related to one actually.
matadorius@reddit
Cartels can’t do anything else but kill civilians in Mexico lol every time they encounter the army the run and die
Optimal-Archer3973@reddit
Cartels killed 65000 Mexican military over 6 years. Including whole attachments in pitched battles. And in the 80s and 90s when we sent groups into South America with the DEA they killed American troops as well. You keep thinking they can do nothing, you are wrong. You seem to forget, they are the largest employer of ex military troops in the world. And yes, that includes ex American military troops. There is not a large call in the civilian world for ex special forces but you can make 2k a day working for a cartel. And they even have health insurance.
DylanFTW@reddit
Armed thanks to the US even.
RoyalZeal@reddit
All too true, we can thank the CIA for that.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
It's just an excuse to suspend elections.
werealldoomed47@reddit
This.
Once troops die he will call it a war.
And since the end goal is impossible it will last until the midterm elections and beyond because that will allow him to suspend elections forever. He will die in office after the President is established and we will live in a Christofascist government.
God Almighty we are so fucked.

From what I understand, we don’t have those laws. We have elections even in wartime.
werealldoomed47@reddit
Ukraines constitution allows for a suspension of elections during war.
This gave Donny boy an erection. Now he wants to start a war so the mid term elections don't happen.
matadorius@reddit
The was must be in American soil not outside lol to even consider something like that
wikyicky@reddit
Sure I don’t doubt that is what he will try. And basically he has been given free rein. I am just pointing out or laws and constitutions don’t allow that. For all that matters in today’s world
Latchkeypunani@reddit
It doesn’t matter anymore. It’s just that simple
vinnybawbaw@reddit
He’s been ruling the US with EO’s for 7 months now, he’ll just sitn another one cancelling elections during War time.
snapdown36@reddit
There’s no actual mechanic to suspend elections though. In Ukraine, their constitution forbids having elections during wartime. Ours doesn’t.
BellyBully@reddit
Bro you really think the constitution matters under this current administration? It’s basically glorified toilet paper at this point

BellyBully@reddit
Don’t need to know you, I know enough based on what you say
snapdown36@reddit
No, but elections are managed at the state level. There’s not any way other than a total military occupation to prevent them from happening.
BellyBully@reddit
Tell me, what’s been happening with top military leaders?
abdallha-smith@reddit
Yes it’s his buddy strategy, (putin, netanyahu) as long as there’s a war going there’s no election possible.
Perpetual war, perpetual deaths, unlimited profits, proud slavery, cheap humans lives.
Any ex sniper willing ?
LogicianMission22@reddit
Yeah, sorry, but the U.S. military could absolutely destroy cartels with drones and god knows what kind of advanced surveillance/reconnaissance techniques they have.
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
When you drone strike a drug lab, you're not just killing the cartel soldiers and leaders, but the random poor people they hire to cook and process the cocaine, or the farmers who grow it, and those people have family who care about them and who will be angered by their deaths enough to join the fight against the US.
LogicianMission22@reddit
So why don’t those same people fight back against the cartel? Most normal citizens are terrified of being killed by the cartel, yet they’re gonna become brave, ruthless soldiers against a much more formidable and advanced adversary? Yeah right.
EleteWarrior@reddit
No they cant. How do you make sure you are going to kill the right person if you cant tell one from the other? Cartel members dont wear uniforms, they wear street clothes. And if you cant tell them apart, you run the risk of creating a massive shitstorm if you accidentally kill an unarmed civillian
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
This is the US military, the civilian deaths won't be accidents, they'll be collateral damage.
And it will cause blow-back.
RoyalZeal@reddit
This is the argument that is used every time the US military decides to go on a little adventure. If you think it is that simple I invite you to look at Afghanistan. Who is in charge now? The Taliban? The same guys that were in charge when we illegally stomped in there?
The US military has quite a lot of toys, but it is far more fragile than people think at first glance. Especially given the coming shortage of everything electronic because China has shut down exports of rare earth minerals, I wouldn't bet on this going well. I expect shock and awe, and a bunch of 'leaders' killed, but more will replace them. This isn't going to be a turkey shoot by any means.
owlindenial@reddit
They're good at killing, not nation building. We all know how operation desert storm went. If they ally with local leaders wanting a more secure grip on power they can leave the nation building to them and exert soft-hard power via making people want to support people less likely to poke the omnicidal bear

Big difference is that despite what some people (not implying you) like to say the Mexican government is not under control of the cartels, and it is likely to object to both the killing and 'nation building' attempts.
LogicianMission22@reddit
Many of these countries (Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, etc.) are across the world, and many are fanatics who hate the west and who have ideological beliefs that push them very far. Afghanistan is a perfect example. Their religion pushes to the extreme and gives them conviction to die for their beliefs. Cartels are much closer and have no such beliefs or ideologies. They just exist to make money. They don’t want to die, and they certainly don’t feel like they have some higher goal that pushes them to do what they do.
Even-Meet-938@reddit
The US military in 1912 could've demolished Pancho Villa's bands 1v1 yet when they invaded Mexico to capture/kill him they failed miserably and the even the official Mexican government considered making peace with its rebel foes just to be able to oust the Americans.
This isn't Call of Duty. War has political considerations. Any US military action in Mexico will likely create unnecessary foes.
-Calm_Skin-@reddit
Something something Vietnam and Afghanistan.
matadorius@reddit
Bro cartels die on a rate of 1000-1 vs Mexican army the only way cartels still exists it’s cuz they can kill as many civilians as they want and corruption but no way they can fight back vs a real army
Early-Sort8817@reddit
They should have started by stopping the flow of US weapons, likely sold by US police, to the cartels.
Even-Meet-938@reddit
And as long as there is a demand for drugs in the US, the cartels will persist.
Antique-Butterfly-12@reddit
This is why we need to do the Mexico and all places the cartels control like Israel is doing to gaza. Make the population fear is more than the cartels is the only way to break the cartels power
refusemouth@reddit
Ah, yes. Let's collectively punish a nation of 130 million people because Americans can't handle their drugs.
GopnikOli@reddit
Are you seriously saying that intimidating your own population in order to fear the state more than cartels is the response?
Rivetss1972@reddit
You are a fucking psycho
The population already hates & fears the cartels, you just want to murder more innocent brown citizens of a sovereign nation.
You DEFINITELY need to clean your gun while drunk
RoyalZeal@reddit
Please tell me you forgot the /s in that, because if you're serious there's nothing left to be said. That's atrocious. We shouldn't be doing any of that, and for that matter neither should fucking Israel. Palestine will be free, despite what those fascist idiots like to crow in their media about.

Heck no!
lareetpetitemort@reddit
Then your argument of "they don't have a choice" is invalid.
Mean-Revolution-9272@reddit
It’s called the oath of enlistment. They are required to obey the orders of chain of command, all the up to the president. It’s a long time consuming process to get rid of these so called “corrupt” people
lareetpetitemort@reddit
Same thing with the Nazis and Hitler. They couldn't just get rid of him no matter how corrupt he was so they just obeyed orders and invaded neighboring countries under his orders. The same way the US military is now invading Venezuela while simultaneously sending innocent people to a literal concentration camp.
If you don't agree with that then you don't agree that "just following orders" is a valid reason to carry out whatever the hell is happening in the US.
Ive drawn enough parallels between the US military and the Nazis you disagree with but if you still want to make excuses for what's happening then continue being on the wrong side of history. Godspeed 👍
killerbacon678@reddit
What exactly are they doing thats an unlawful order? This isn’t a movie, they’re being put on a deployment, they’re not gonna politically stand up in arms against a lawful order like Clone troopers disobeying order 66 lmao.
Correct me if I’m wrong. but from what I gather this is a legal operation, and I don’t really see the signs it’s escalating into a “Third World War”
Not to say I like what Trumps doing in the slightest, I think it’s just a distraction from the Epstein files, but I think ya’ll in the comments are blowing this way out of proportion.
refusemouth@reddit
America has all the watches, but the cartels have all the time. America will get bored, and the cartels will just pop back up to meet America's insatiable demand for more dope. If we actually addressed addiction here at home and/or controlled our own drug supply, the motivation for the cartels business model would decline. But, that's too much work, so we will destabilize the population of Latin American countries instead, and tgen wonder why so many people are piling up at the border as refugees. Genius moves by our fearless leader once again.

I would just like to challenge people to consider something: if Donald Trump is willing to break his "No New Wars" promise to the American people over sending troops to fight drug cartels in Latin America...then why should we believe that he will not also break that promise to send troops into Iran, at the request of Netanyahu (who may or may not have a copy of the Epstein Files)?
forkproof2500@reddit
Trump is already at work distancing himself from Epstein, using Ghislaine Maxwell's testimony, which she probably believes will give her a pardon down the line (which isn't unlikely tbh).
She said Trump did "nothing untoward" and MAGAs are lapping it up.
exhaustedanalyst@reddit
The testimony of a child trafficker exonerating someone with the power to pardon them should hold absolutely zero weight. The fact that her testimony is presented as evidence that Trump is innocent is fucking disgusting and very telling.
forkproof2500@reddit
It shouldn't but it will. Anyway Trump is apparently not super well, he can't walk in a straight line and has a lot of swelling in his feet and ankles. He might not be around for much longer.
I'm honestly more scared by JD Vance.
WaltzIntrepid5110@reddit
I kinda hope he turns around and kills her anyway, since it seems she's not going to be any help taking him down.
Maxwell is already on record saying Trump did nothing. If he kills her now she can never be questioned again, or voluntarily give answers, on the subject.
The only way Trump is leaving office is in a casket, he wants to be President for Life.
TanneriteTed@reddit
Of course they are. They are fucking idiots.
SquareNecessary5767@reddit
Because 1)the Iran-Israel war is at least partially frozen as of now and 2)sending troops in an immense country made by thousands of mountains and hot deserts can only result in a forever war that will distract Trump from his priorities(China etc.).
forkproof2500@reddit
Israel got their asses handed to them by Iranian missiles and failed at their actual war aim, which was to draw the US into the conflict.
Once it was understood this failed they quietly went into a ceasefire. Unfortunately Iran now knows infinitely more about Israeli defence capabilities.
SquareNecessary5767@reddit
Sure, and that's why the US resorted to use B-2s to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities, so as not to put boots on the ground in Iran.
forkproof2500@reddit
Yeah, exactly. No boots on the ground, no regime change. And in this case it seems it didn't really do any lasting damage to their nuclear program either.
It was essentially a way for Israel to save face.

The US military has never won a fight against an armed guerilla insurgency. Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan all stand testament to the paper-tiger nature of our forces. YeetedApple@reddit (OP)
A. The issue is picking a needless fight with the cartels that is likely to turn into a disaster.
B. It also definitely costs money, and not a small amount either.
J0E_Blow@reddit
C. This seems like a token force not capable of changing the larger picture and is most likely a distraction.
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
I think it's the ~~19~~ 20 states worth of National Guard thst are le force capable of changing the larger picture.
This is just a pretext to suspend elections.
J0E_Blow@reddit
That would dissolve the United States pretty quickly.
We had elections during both Iraq and Afghanistan. Short of organized, uniformed enemy combat ops on US soil the suspension of elections couldn't be justified and would result in blow-back.
YeetedApple@reddit (OP)
Look at Iraq and Afghanistan on a map, and then Mexico. That is not including the who knows how many people and resources the cartels already have in the country. People are worried about this because this specific fight is one of the most likely to actually bring some level of violence to american cities if it escalates enough.
J0E_Blow@reddit
Wonderful, maybe we’ll learn our lessons and stop starting wars.
Still not justification fir no elections and the people will be mad.
