Why are men's trousers unfit for purpose?

Why are men's trousers unfit for purpose? By this I mean that they fail at reliably covering the bum. I am being exposed to large amounts builder's bum from the men in my household. They all insist there is nothing they can do to remedy this problem - despite belts or elastication, the trousers just slide down. But why? I am a obese woman who normally wears elasticated trousers - legging or joggers. My trousers are comfortable and reliably held up by the elastic (not my hips). I have just experimented and even if I actively try, by repositioning the waist band lower and bending and stretching, I cannot make my trousers slip down. Even when I have been too fat for my trousers and the waistband folds over they have inched down very slowly and I have never shown my bum crack. Why are men's trousers not as effective? Why are men not demanding better trousers? Why are suppliers not providing them? Is this the perfect storm of the failings of capitalism and sexism?
