How do you deal with a serial bullshitter?

Ah, the classic “site warrior” – hardest man in Britain Monday to Friday, then quietly folding his hi-vis into a Tesco bag on Saturday. We’ve all worked with one. Thing is, you’re not going to change him. People like that thrive on the performance, and if you poke holes in it, you just look like the moody one. Best tactic is to play along with a bit of dry sarcasm. Stuff like: Wow mate, surprised you’re not running the country with all these skills. That’s mad, you should write a book – maybe call it 50 Fights I Definitely Won. God, I’d hate to be the next bloke who cuts you up in traffic, they’ll never walk again. Delivered deadpan, it gives you an outlet without direct confrontation, and often others will quietly clock onto it too. If he’s basically decent and you get on otherwise, it’s probably not worth blowing it up. Just let him have his little fantasy UFC career in the corner – the rest of you know who he really is.
