American steel mills are already in a pretty bad spot financially and the cost of the tariffs must be paid on import, which puts them behind further during production in a way that will bankrupt a lot of them.

I thought that only counted for finished steel products. I know the recent copper tariff only affects finished copper products and not raw materials like bars, ores, and rods.

Well most of the imported goods are partially refined and not raw ore. A lot of pig iron and recycled metal get used in steel mills. And America outsourced their recycling.

Steel is not created out of thin air, materials, machinery and other structural elements needed are imported because american-made alternatives are too expensive. If you are working on margins and quotas on whatever it is you are doing, global tariffs on all imports WILL fuck you over, no matter the industry.

Me with the oil rigs. My first year swamping i was told i was “daft” and should never get a blue collar job again in my life. I’m so glad i gave oil rig floorhand a shot because crude oil, industrial anything, robotics ect are all special interests of mine.
