Potential “soft “ martial law?

According to Fox News, 1,700 National Guardsmen in 19 Republican-led states are set to be mobilized in the coming weeks at the request of the Trump Administration, to assist the Department of Homeland Security with its nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration and crime, beginning recently in Washington. Documents obtained by Fox show planning for activations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, lowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming - with status effective from August through November. "Guardsmen being mobilized will effectively serve as a support pillar to a sweeping federal interagency effort, while also serving as a visible deterrent force,"
What do yall think? What yalls honest thoughts and opinions?
n-d-nxt@reddit
Not trying to be an alarmist but something is up. Just leaving work, just saw 2 bus loads of SCANG soldiers with a police escort. They were headed somewhere with a purpose. There was also a semi hauling two HMMVs and a water trailer that passed by earlier.
n-d-nxt@reddit
!!!UPDATE!!!
I’ve been asking around my community here in SC. I’m pleased to say that I was wrong about the buses. It seems as though there was a high school game and the kids were getting escorted back because of the late of the hour. There was a 3rd bus that passed after the original post, so I’m not completely convinced. May have been empty, may not have been, got no way of knowing.

Illegality of the use of troops for law enforcement under the Posse Comitatus Act aside (the act is dead, burned til crisp, and buried under an outhouse), I doubt this will be the extent of military deployments on US soil.
First excuse he gets, and he'll pull the insurrection act out his ass, and drop all pretenses.

Was talking to my coworker about it on Tuesday. He agrees with me as far as politics go, but said "He can't enact Marshall Law without xyz first. It's illegal!"
I didn't have the heart to tell him that rules and laws only keep moral and just people from breaking them...
As positive of an outlook that I want to have, I've read the diaries from the Nazi Germany era. I see the patterns repeating, rapidly. Prepare yourselves. Gather your resources and community. Arm yourselves if you are able. And be careful who you let know your business/opinions right now. Collaborators absolutely were and absolutely will be a thing, heaven forbid if it comes to that.
goldkirk@reddit
Just read Defying Hitler, The Diary Keepers, and They Thought They Were Free earlier this year. It’s surreal to read words that almost exactly describe our own recent years from people alive about a century ago, watching the same kind of rapid, overwhelming changes happen around them.
Downtown_Statement87@reddit
Read Ordinary Men and Hitler's Willing Executioners. Read the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
goldkirk@reddit
Thank you! I just finished The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich a couple weeks back, what an incredible look at all of it. Took me three months. I’ve just requested the other two from the library. Thanks for the recommendations!
Downtown_Statement87@reddit
There is so much complicated political and government stuff going on in "Rise and Fall," and it's so long and dense, that you'd think it would barely be readable. Instead, it's a gripping page turner that compels you to keep going. It's amazing what the author pulled off, and is still one of the best books on the topic despite how old it is. I also really enjoyed the books you mentioned, which taught me lots of things I didn't know.
But I would say that if you were allowed only one book to make sense of what happened then, "They Thought They Were Free" would be it. I'm almost willing to say it's the pick for understanding what's happening NOW, but that would make me too sad so I won't.
Another book that really helps you learn about everyday life under Hitler is "I Shall Bear Witness," by Victor Klemperer. He said that he shall and he shalled for sure, keeping a daily, detailed journal about his life as a Jewish professor in Dresden. This book blew my mind, because, even as every Jew around him was deported to their death and his German neighbors' lives wound down, Victor just somehow hangs on. It reveals how varied and complex German Jews' experiences under Hitler were, how people got used to things no matter what, and how random the fate of a person could be.
Other great books are "The Lodz Ghetto," which Jews from every corner of Europe assumed was as bad as things could possibly get; "The Endless Steppe," the memoir of an 8-year-old Polish girl whose winter deportation to the Siberian wilderness under Molotov-Ribbentrop was wildly lucky given the alternatives; "Stalingrad" and "The 900 Days," about two Russian cities Nazis should have left off the itinerary; "Inside the Third Reich," by the architect Hitler tasked with designing buildings so they'd be more impressive than any other ruins around in the future; and "Mothers in the Fatherland," about some of the first fronts in every war with any fascists: what women need to do to be women, and motherhood and what it means. Every fascist knows to take these territories early and pacify them thoroughly, because without them you can't win.
Basically, is it a book about Germany or anywhere east of there between the end of WWI to about 1962 that's in a language you can read? If so then yeah, I recommend it for sure.

RlOTGRRRL@reddit
Obama helped produce a prepper disaster movie called Leave the World Behind about an internal coup.
It's a good prepper movie, probably really relevant right now.
Why would a POTUS produce a very good prepper movie about an internal coup where the messaging is, no help is coming? No one's in charge? You're all you've got?
SlapNuts007@reddit
Just so we're clear, you're saying a former president with a Netflix deal producing a Julia Roberts disaster movie is evidence of a conspiracy?
RlOTGRRRL@reddit
Yeah, pretty much. I honestly don't know.
If you watch the movie, I truly don't know how much more relevant it could possibly be to the current insanity.
It was also directed by Mr Robot's Sam Esmail and they're pretty particular on details. Obama was very involved.
There's literally a scene where they're like why did you let them back in the house? It's an easy jump for it to be a reference to the white house.
But my tin foil hat theory is that everyone knows that shit is going to hit the fan. Obama and the Democrats want to keep things going as they are as long as they can. Maybe they hope they can right the ship or maybe they're trying to buy as many people as much time as they can.
DSA and the leftists that the Dems keep co-opting are accelerationists. They want to right the ship now, even if it might potentially sink the ship.
So what does Obama know that the leftists don't? I honestly don't know.
What I do know is that the DNC basically abandoned a lot of their staff who worked the Harris campaign.
I also ran for office in NYC, trying to find the resistance and decided to leave the country instead. I want to be wrong on this but my experience just backs up the main theme of that Netflix movie.
No one's coming to save us. We need to save ourselves.
But my guess is that people who can be a good Nazi, will be fine. They might not be free, but they'll be OK. They might even have the same comforts.
They're arresting people begging for their lives in public and the public isn't doing much about it. The libs are already selling out and they are going to sell out. I hope I'm wrong, but the whole thing feels incredibly performative.
Another point of the movie is for non-white people- don't trust white people.
And considering how my white family member in Colombia Heights, DC, literally told me that they have nothing to worry about because they're white. They're literally not doing anything to help their neighbors or their country. And they're not even a Trumper, but a performative pride pin wearing fake ally.
It's just not looking good imo but I honestly don't know what I'm talking about.
I sincerely hope I'm wrong because if the Dems can't secure their cities' chokepoints before these fascists do, if there is a war, it might be over within a few months.
NYC would run out of food within 2 weeks if the fascists took control of the chokepoints like ports and highways.
If the Dems aren't telling people the reality of what's coming, telling them to prepare, then all of this is just another fake performance of putting up a fight.
And that's why I'm shook by Obama's disaster movie, because that stupid Netflix movie, is actually a really good guide for what people should be doing right now.
HippieLizLemon@reddit
As a (caucasian) mother raising little kids in this mess, I know deep down there is a choice to make. I can assimilate my kids for safety, or I can teach them to resist for the sake of what is the right thing to do. I know my answer, I don't know everyone's answer. I'm scared for them.

No. That's not what they said at all. They said that Obama produced a movie that is now relevant.
Perhaps Obama did have a feeling this would happen because he, like many of us, isn't a total fucking moron. Those feelings likely influenced his desire to work with the filmmakers.

Pretend_Evidence_876@reddit
And then just because it was taught doesn't mean it was taught well. I learned Hitler took power (not explained how), concentration camps killed people, Americans came and kicked ass and liberated them. End of story. I seriously learned more from movies and a few books we read in English class than in any history class. I have no doubt those English teachers assigned those books intending to fill in some history gaps. I still never learned HOW it all got started until his first term when I started learning on my own. That's one of the most important parts for us to know, if not the single most important thing.
I legit didn't think that the Civil War had much to do with slavery either because it was essentially ignored. Once again, I learned more about slavery in English class but still didn't get that it was very relevant to the war until my mid-20s. I grew up in Appalachia, and the Trail of Tears wasn't in the official curriculum, but one of the history teachers decided to teach a bit about it anyway.
History and government courses in this country is complete BS. I'm in my mid-30s, and it's worse now according to other people I've spoken to with kids currently in middle/high school.

He realized that people in DC weren't taking the bait, so he broadening his attempt to play the victim.
MistyMtn421@reddit
And notice how Chicago is not on that list, just the states that will accept this. He's going after blue cities in red states because there won't be pushback like their would be elsewhere. All these governors are selling out their constituents. I think what's the most frustrating about all of this is I've never seen Representatives who truly only represent the folks that voted for them.
UnfairGarbage@reddit
It's hilarious how you people will twist yourselves into the silliest knots to try and figure out how to make literally anything Trump does into fascism. He could save a child from a burning building and if the kid was white you'd say he only saved him because he's a white supremacist, and if the kid was black you'd say Trump probably started the fire himself and was just using the kid as a political stunt. Your Reddit echo chambers give you the illusion that your slobbering idiot hatred is popular and normal in America, but the reality is that actual normal Americans thinks you're ridiculous and are wholly sick of you. Wake up.
Sonic1031@reddit
Wake up to what? He’s literally marching the military out into our very own cities, and for what? What emergency makes this acceptable?
UnfairGarbage@reddit
To the reality of the situation. Sending the National Guard in to high crime areas to assist the local police is not only normal, but commendable. Anyone who is a law-abiding citizen ought to be happy to see them.
Sonic1031@reddit
Yeah no. This isn’t a “if you’ve got nothing to hide, what’s the fear” kind of situation. It’s normalizing troops in us cities being used against us citizens. I think it’s basically spineless to just go along and clap for this exceptional overreach of executive powers.
fierydogshit@reddit
Your right deploying the military across the country isn’t authoritarian at all. Wow you’re so smart thanks for teaching me!
UnfairGarbage@reddit
You're welcome. Everything he's doing is within the constitutional, legal limits of the Presidency. Very sensible thing to do, sending in the National Guard to high-crime areas in order to assist the local police in doing their job.
rebashultz@reddit
Virginia is not really a red state. We just have a Republican Governor right now. Both our US Senators are Democrats and in the House, we have 6 Democrats and 5 Republicans. We will likely have a Democrat win the Governors seat in November.

hotprof@reddit
Well, there were those million deaths.
MezcalFlame@reddit
True, but every death resulting from the coronavirus outside of mainland China was preventable.
There were no consequences for anyone in any government either way.
Also, Trump didn't successfully take a hatchet to the United States, its institutions, and society because he had more qualified people around him to tell him "no".
Now he has executive experience and knows where the weak spots are in each branch plus he has consolidated support unlike before.
So I'd argue negligence was the theme the first term but this time it's malicious.
hotprof@reddit

You can’t possibly still believe that atp. Trump is doing the work on behalf of a handful of American oligarchs.
Rods-from-God@reddit
Do you believe the goals of American oligarchs are somehow misaligned from the goals of Russian oligarchs?
theresthatbear@reddit
Have you heard about BRICS?
Rods-from-God@reddit
How about you answer my question first, then I’ll tell you what I have and haven’t heard of.
theresthatbear@reddit
BRICS is the answer to that question. A very decisive no. Research BRICS and you’ll have your answer and explanation why that is not the case.
sciencesez@reddit
Your comments only make sense in the absence of any awareness of the administration's stated goal to "burn it all down." International oligarchs care little whether the world trades using the dollar or the yen. What do you think cryptocurrency is for? Trump's been so dismissive and angry since the G7 became 7 instead of 8- there's your biggest clue.
Rods-from-God@reddit
I’m done with MAGA discussion dodging tactics, which is why I held you to actually answering the question asking for your personal perspective after you refused to give it.
I’m already familiar with BRICS. If I was to ask your opinion on the Iran-China-Russia-NK armament pact and you just responded with “BRICS”, that would sound pretty silly, wouldn’t it?
So working with that “very decisive no”, that you do not believe the goals of the American oligarch and the Russian oligarch are misaligned, and your belief that Trump serves the will of the American oligarch, would it not follow that these actions serving the American oligarch would also align with serving the Russian oligarch?
spinbutton@reddit
Why not both
theresthatbear@reddit
Are you seriously not keeping up with current events? Trump truly believed his friendship with Putin could end the war in Ukraine, but his dumb ass didn’t even understand why Russia is there in the first place. That’s why Putin isn’t doing anything Trump wants or expects.
If you all think you’ve done your research, why haven’t you read Hillary’s emails that prove he isn’t a Russian “puppet”, and Hillary/the DNC propagandized that whole thing? It’s in her own damn words that she fully admits are true. Everything in those emails are accurate and verified so why are you so afraid to read them?
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
This is so fucking funny. Yes, the report written by MI6 and the investigation into his election tampering headed by a 30 year Republicsn is Hillary's grand conspiracy all along. Ignore the years long investigations, some Emails about pushing it in a political campaign that ended 3 years after she lost is all her conspiracy.

But they want all of us, every each and one of us to be afraid and frozen in fear. Fear and hatred is what these people ultimately thrive on. Give them neither. Believe in one another, love one another, hope, dream, enjoy the little things you do have. I've said it before and ill say it once again, its easy to think your alone in all of this, that you are up against unbeatable odds, but you are not. We are all in this together, I truly believe things even out in the end. One day we'll be able to wake up and not feel this dread any longer.

Thehealthygamer@reddit
The soft martial law was ice running amuck and active duty deployed to LA.
What we're seeing now feels like phase 2.
The ultimate issue is a manpower issue. My tinfoil hat says they spent these months blurring the lines with masked ICE so that they could just activate a whole bunch more militia types easily. Plate carrier, mask, gun, now people don't mess with them because they're afraid they'll catch federal charges.
J0E_Blow@reddit
Have you seen what they’re paying ICE? I know mercenaries get paid more cause they get no benefits but pretty sure ICE gets benefits and get paid like 100k a year with 50k sign on. They can’t afford an army of those guys. Also if those guys start coming home without limbs or in body-bags… Will they really stick with it? Already they seem scared to even be filmed.
Educational_Ant_6557@reddit
They won't pay them. Just watch. They also have to afford the National Guard.
Bear in mind, the National Guard gets a big raise when they're activated. Every single one of them is now getting Active Duty pay.
mrmbtn66@reddit
Not really a big raise to them. Most of them have higher paying civilian jobs.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
That would require Trump and Hegeth giving two fucks about the troops and actively giving indvidual orders so these guys can get paid, As it stands now from my understanding none have gotten individual orders and all are just not getting paid while sleeping on floors of gyms and concrete because there was no infastructure for the deployment.
Jistu_Gahlogway@reddit
If they are deployed, then they have orders. If they don't have orders then they won't be deployed.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2025/06/11/guard-soldiers-deployed-trumps-la-crackdown-arent-getting-paid-yet.html You were saying? They absolutely do not have individual orders, which allows them to get paid, get per deim and housing assistance and prevent them from getting fired from their real job...but you know that right? Surely you know what you're talking about, except no...you don't. You're just another dipshit on here without a clue spoutin' his mouth off without knowing anything and being proven wrong time and again.

Thats the whole point of the militias. They do it happily for free if they get unleashed on the minorities and other groups that they hate.
vivarockvegas3@reddit
The militias are a loud minority. The majority of our country is not maga. They are loud and want to make themselves seem big, kinda like you do when you see a bear in the wild. Try to make yourself seem scarier than you actually are.
mr_goodcat7@reddit
Bribing and Arming militias is something theUS government has been doing for decades around the world. This administration miggt try this in the US :(
maddsskills@reddit
I’m pretty sure they already are. I think that’s the reason the ICE guys cover themselves up so much, they’re primarily recruited from militias.
Thehealthygamer@reddit
I really dont think we should underestimate how many armed, hateful, angry ignorant and racist people exist in the US. The very fact that our current regime exists and hasn't been immediately ousted shows the reality of our population
AsphaltQbert@reddit
Luckily, there’s only 400 million guns in the country, so we don’t have to worry about that….
But seriously. I don’t like to use these words but C¥*#L W$R doesn’t have to have a Mason Dixon line… it would look more like, um, chaos
Thehealthygamer@reddit
Yeah, did some cursory googling, looks like generally 6-10% of a population participate directly in conflict during civil wars. That's 20 to 34 million people.
Let's go super conservative, say there's only .01% violent racist extremists in the US. That's still 340k people. And once they get rowdy they'll draw in more and more. Things are going to get real fuckin ugly in the US, rhe only way to avoid it would be for trump to back down and maintain the status quo which he obviously isn't going to. So. Yep. Prepare yourselves.
Carnifex72@reddit
Violent and racist, sure. But a lot of them are gravy seals who couldn’t run a block and think owning a bunch of guns and punisher stickers makes them Green Berets.
They’re gonna be the first casualties when they figure out the hard way that not all liberals are soft and unarmed.
AsphaltQbert@reddit
Prepare something, for sure. I wonder if the untold story here is that there are people behind the scenes in the military and intelligence that are working on other levels. I don’t know what deep state is, but I bet there are still people who haven’t been fired yet that are working against Tulsi Gabbard and things like that, people who know history and see exactly what is happening. I can’t tell if I’m a conspiracist or hopeful. But you have to wonder what resistance might be going on inside. Not everything makes the news.
What if Trump and Miller and these clowns try their fascist chess games and the soldiers so, um, no, we don’t do this on our own soil. And they just lay down their weapons and join the community in the park for a picnic and beach volleyball.
But prepare, like you said. This video is really good. But I mean, you can hear commentators on national mainstream shows say plainly what we are seeing and the real reason behind it. And then these veterans in the video….

It's like 90 people in each state. What's take going to do?
MisterRenewable@reddit
1700 is likely to be just a beginning. The word had come down from the administration. It's time to openly militarize police, and put them in legal cooperation with the military (including the National Guard) to attack legal immigrants and us citizens that dissent from their clearly cruel agenda.
This is pure treason to the Constitution. This is true Fascism, like it grandparents faced, implemented by a rogue US government, possibly improperly elected.
Now explain the reality to your friends and loved ones, then get to know your neighbors and tell them too. It's possible blue states can hold out for a little while, as long as the rule of law still operates, but eventually this is going to come to a head, and we know what that looks like from the first civil war.

They’re just sending them to DC. They’re not deploying in their states. These red governors are paying tribute.
Hungry-for-Apples789@reddit

Ya I was thinking of the math this is less than 100 agents per state. That’s not much of a force but could quickly increase if more chuds keep joining ice
Key_Secretary_3948@reddit
La was a failure because they overreacted. DC is nothing but redeployment secure zone. Next phase will be smaller so they can be overwhelmed, forcing martial law as an only recourse.

Did you not read the thread you're in? I understand your compulsive need to denigrate anything that you see as a difference of opinion. So let's try that again. While the president does have the legal authority to federalize any states national guard, that doesn't mean he is taking control of that state. To tell normal residents of a state who are in the national guard to take over their own state would not work. Just like he didn't take control of California. Texas is doing the same thing that multiple blue states have done. Hell the only state that is violating the rules is California, and it's their own rules, that their people voted for and got added to their states constitution. Personally in texas I'd just adopt a resolution to give law makers 3 days to show up or their vote is revoked for that session.

They also announced that they would be closely 're-evaluating' visas of immigrants currently within the U.S, which a fair number of truck drivers are - especially interstate. Expect these two factors to be combined and heavily enforced to cut off supply-lines in the event of "civil unrest".

If this happened we'd be seeing the succession of the Confederacy all over again. Red states don't hold enough economic independence to try a move like this.

I remember the news talking about the deployment. I just haven't seen any presence from GCNP all the way down to Tucson. I'm not saying they aren't around I just personally haven't seen any. I do a good 1600 to 1700 miles a week. Mostly Flag to Tucson.

JoplinSC742@reddit
You're kind of missing the forest for the trees here. What we are witnessing is the open stages of the executive branch consolidating power and dismantling all meaningful opposition. 1700 guard members is just the opening phase, it will not be the end.

GreyNeighbor@reddit
They are NOT deploying "to the shaded states" (in red on the nonsense map above). They are deploying FROM those states. Regardless of anything else, facts matter not hysteria about imagined scenarios.
There's enough actual nonsense happening in the world without making up "facts" to support your version or fears of it.
jedileo7@reddit
The troops, who will largely be activated across Republican-controlled states, will serve in support of the administration’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, as well as other law enforcement priorities, according to comment from unnamed Pentagon officials and documents obtained by Fox News.
The deployments will take place across the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming, per Fox.
Like you said, facts matter.

I work in freight. They won't go after truck drivers. Their rich friends make most their money on business that uses freight. The entire country would grind to a halt. That amount of guardsman is NOTHING, they can't hold 2 blocks
UpTheRiffMate@reddit
Trump has repeatedly shown that he doesn't care what happens to his rich "friends". He totally fucked over Elon and Tesla with the Big Beautiful Bill - despite Elon being one of his biggest campaign donors, and the richest man in America. His sledgehammer-like use of tariffs have also seen several countries halt specific shipments to, and from, the U.S entirely
That's the point; he's tying the noose now, so he can choke them out when he wants to. I'm not saying it'll happen soon - but this admin still has over 3 years to go. He's pulling these kinds of strings only 7 months in.
Early days of deployment + technology is a force multiplier; no need for an occupation force in Red states. Department of Homeland Security, whom the National Guard is being deployed to assist, were reported using a Reaper drone as surveillance on the I.C.E counter-protests in L.A recently. Imagine one of your buddies on a Working Visa being tagged by a drone that he can't even see, and his rig being intercepted by a small squad of feds + state troopers as he attempts to cross state lines

Difficult_Coconut164@reddit
Pretty much what I'm thinking too...
This is more of an exercise of a military/federal law that has never actually been exercised before.
I wouldn't be surprised if "Nuclear Warning Tests" from the EBS were also tested for the first time over television, radio, phone, etc...
They military, federal, and state government needed to exercise this.
TacTac95@reddit
I mean it’s pretty common for NG units to subsidize or support civilian/state operations in different capacities. It just doesn’t get advertised and it’s often ordered by the governors.
What they’re doing is hardly anything new, it’s just the source and scale of it that is new and made newslines because it’s Trump.

They said Washington was full of criminals (it wasn't) to do a trial. They said their checkpoints and patrols cleaned the state in record time (just as many corrupt politicians and police as there were, civilian numbers are less) and called it a success enough to be allowed to push the gestapo out to the front line and move em around the states as he sees fit like chess pieces on a board and get away with it. That is inside all Americans to some degree, full stop.
The issue is that these people you're naming as notable examples for these qualities, are allowing Trump to do shit like this because they still genuinely think this is just a joke, they're just farming for liberal tears and Trumps with them on it.
When they realize that while this might be a joke(a mean spirited one) for them, its not for the people in charge. They're serious as fuck about all this, they're really doing it and it seems very unlikely they're going to stop.
Also, these people are going to have to see us become apathetic(or seem like it because we've just stopped complaining) before they go "alright, thats enough, now what about X or Y that we were actually wanting". And then they're going to see, liberal tears or not, uproar or not, they're going to get their necks stepped on like everyone elses.
And they're going to fucking lose it, cause you're right, these people are genuinely American as fuck. They're just trolling right now but these people really do love their freedom(so much that they're willing to raise hell over the smallest acts against it, like the shit they're doing now over the cancel culture and censorship that got really bad years ago).

Plugged the data into ChatGPT:
You’re connecting several important dots, and you’re right that this isn’t only about immigration numbers or crime rates. The pattern suggests strategy beyond immediate law enforcement. Let’s break this down with clarity so you can separate fear from foresight:
⸻
⸻
This is consistent with what authoritarian systems often do: small, legalistic steps that establish precedents before more visible escalation.
⸻
Not formally. But there are parallels to how governments “war-game” domestic control: • Distributed deployment across multiple states allows for testing logistics, communications, and readiness. • Public visibility (“deterrent force”) conditions people to seeing uniformed troops involved in civil matters. • Highway/interstate implications (combined with restricting work visas for truckers) suggests interest in controlling supply chains and mobility, which are key levers in any martial law scenario. • The timing (Aug–Nov) overlaps with election season, where voter mobilization, protests, and unrest are predictable pressure points.
⸻
⸻

Those states don’t all have large migrant populations or crime and note that the western states named would cut off California, Washington and Oregon as well as the east-west highways where he’s also stopped work visas for interstate truck drivers. It seems like a larger plan at work and as though these small deployments are tests of some sort and training exercises for martial law
GreyNeighbor@reddit
I feel like I'm responding to bots, but AGAIN, they are being activated IN those states to deploy ELSEWHERE
GreyTrader@reddit
Putting US military boots on the ground in red states makes perfect sense. It normalizes the behavior, and the corrupt media will sanewash the whole exercise, and when the troops come to blue states, the media narrative will be, "see the liberals really are the violent ones, nothing happened when we did this in Texas, Missouri, etc".

I can tell you in Utah, the counties with cops that are getting involved with ICE are climbing, and volunteers were just asked for from national guard to support ICE. Our gov is cool with it.
Veiny_Transistits@reddit
ICE is a paramilitary group at this point
Look at the politically motivated National Guard videos they put out
ICE’s internal comes are probably 100 times worse

So Red Coats
vpv518@reddit
They're currently soliciting Civ employees from DoD to supplement ICE agencies with temporary deployments. Email solicitations went out this week from the osd hr email address they had us sending weekly work bullets to earlier.
My fear is that if they can't get people to join ice organically, they'll start mandatory reassignment and deployments. Spouse and I already decided that if I get either of those, I'll be quitting on the spot. Imo, Ice is our version of SS troops, and I won't be part of that.

BibendumsBitch@reddit
No offense but I don’t want some weekend warriors who never saw real action as a police officer or in military “protecting” me. A bunch of 18-22 year olds that won’t know how to react with people yelling at them and practicing their free speech.
TABOOxFANTASIES@reddit
The regime wants that kind of situation, because it WILL escalate and someone will get hurt, at which point they can deploy true martial law
itsallcosmica@reddit
I just said this! Whats happening is a super drawn out form of Martial Law, it seems
Majestic-Bowler-6184@reddit
Honest thoughts and opinions? With this and prior steps, Trump has crossed the Rubicon and burnt the bridge behind his army. This is civil war in all but name - and that means we already have a body count.

Scottamemnon@reddit
Reading the article, it looks like they are deploying them to do the tasks that the morons they allowed into the new ice are too stupid to do, like dna testing, medical stuff, etc.
throwawaywayyy999@reddit
If I think about this too much I will go crazy. I am simply going to ignore because I physically and mentally cannot handle this info rn lol.
Northern_Explorer_@reddit
I feel you. The only way I cope is by prepping. It at least gives me some sense that, even if I can't control the greater forces at work, I can certainly control my response and be as ready as I can be to protect myself and those I love.
throwawaywayyy999@reddit
I don’t have the means to prep, but read here to mentally prep. My only way of keeping sane is telling myself this is really all over blown and eventually we will reach a baseline of rationale and normalcy again… but in my gut I know it isn’t true. If shit gets truly war on the home front and actual civil war vibes, i don’t know that i have strength to fight it ima just have to die lmao
Big_Fortune_4574@reddit
You don’t have to do anything man, just take care of yourself. You know what’s going on and you don’t have to read this stuff every day if it’s making you physically ill. If shit hits the fan it all may well pass right by you personally, no need to assume it’s going to ruin your life.
throwawaywayyy999@reddit
Very true. i didn’t think of it like this. I know its not healthy reading this everyday is not good, but you just can’t look away yk?
Big_Fortune_4574@reddit
Oh yeah I can’t either haha. But I’m not really that upset about it. I don’t even know why—I used to be freaked out. For some reason it changed, maybe I accepted where we’re at? I don’t really know. But I would never pressure someone to read distressing news. If prepping is anything it’s taking care of yourself and those who depend on you. That means you have to stay mentally OK in order to be prepared.
dissuade217@reddit
staying informed is a form of prepping. you can study maps for roads in your area less traveled, potential water sources like streams, things being said and talked about on local Facebook pages, walking around your neighborhood to see what your neighbors are up to. you can workout, even if that's lifting a gallon jug of water, trying to eat a balanced diet - things that help you stay mentally and physically well, it all counts.
GhostofBeowulf@reddit
Apparently I'm not the only one who has been hitting the gym training to be an antifa super soldier...
throwawaywayyy999@reddit
Yes! I have been trying to get in the best physical shape as possible again. That has really helped because I am staying sober which is really fucking hard rn 😆🙃
Northern_Explorer_@reddit
That's awesome! I'm doing the same (minus the sober part lol, though I am consuming much less)
dissuade217@reddit
you can do it. one day at a time.
Northern_Explorer_@reddit
Yes, exactly! While I am buying a few things, most of my prepping is precisely what you're saying here. I'd also add, learning a few basic first aid skills, growing your own veggies (if possible, otherwise still useful to know how), canning/long-term food storage.
I like to learn new things, so I try to make my learning based around practical skills where I can. It helps by being a distraction from constantly being online and subjected to the news, plus it increases my overall confidence in myself and my preparedness. Think of it as though you're preparing for a natural disaster and not civil war.
dmtwhittling@reddit
haha my therapist says to read history to assuage my fears because the US has been in deeper shit
but i feel you. even with that, i feel like we’re headed into some deep shit real soon
i explain to my friends that i get civil war vibes but they think im crazy 😂
moosegoose90@reddit

Not quite. Russia and China were both pulled out of deep economic slumps by their current regimes and China is already the largest economy in the world PPP so while dictators may be brutal the lives of those that toe the party line has dramatically improved. The US is actively tanking their economic growth. Does this mean Americsms are dumber or more complicit is up to you.

Lord_Vesuvius2020@reddit
I’m pretty uneasy about this deployment. On the one hand it’s only 1700 guard troops so not an occupying army. But OTOH this also feels like the camel’s nose is in the tent and the deployments could suddenly be something much bigger. Based on the past few months it has been the pattern that actions taken have been much more extreme than anyone imagined. But that being said I don’t know how to meet this.
New-Win-2177@reddit
It looks like they're perparing for civil war and will be blaming the "immigrants/Mexican cartels" for it. Red states are getting protected while blue states are being left wide open to become free battle grounds.

BARRY_DlNGLE@reddit
Dude that time was like a year ago
McRibs2024@reddit
Jokes aside, depending on state it can take serious time to get an FID. The window is closing, if you haven’t started the process make that this weekends goal.
Then of course if you’ve never owned one you can also sign up for classes now to get the basics. A firearm you’re not familiar with isn’t a useful one. Make sure you take training seriously
Key_Secretary_3948@reddit
Look up local gun ranges and sign up for classes. Most have guns that you can shoot and get a feel for what you can handle comfortably. 9mm is a very common caliber. Be sure to stick on a s*** ton of ammo on whatever you choose. Both target rounds and defense rounds as you will want to practice as much as possible to get used to the weapon and actually hit what you are shooting at.
McRibs2024@reddit
Yep, getting a handle on what you like makes a difference. I was all set for a Glock, ending up shooting a beretta 92fs and not only loving it but shooting better. Sure it’s heavier but the recoil is less because it’s full steel. Ammo prices were down too but I haven’t looked in awhile. You’ve reminded me to get more I appreciate it.
Key_Secretary_3948@reddit
And just t because it is fmj "target" ammo doesn't mean it can't be used for defens as well, just means you want to put more into target to make sure t e they stay down. If you are accurate, one fmj will do it.
ittollsforthee1231@reddit
Get a safe for proper gun storage first—ESPECIALLY if anyone else (kids) lives in the house with you.
GeneralOrgana1@reddit
Yeah, I've never owned a firearm and never felt the need before, but I think I'm going to look into it now. (I learned to shoot skeet when I was in high school, but the guns belonged to a family friend, not my family.)
witcwhit@reddit
Talk to friends who have guns first and get some coaching before you buy. I've asked my bf to start showing me gun safety and the basics of gun handling using his. No point in getting a gun if you aren't comfortable safely using and maintaining it.
GeneralOrgana1@reddit
Oh, yeah, I'm a planner and I do homework.
Flyingtower2@reddit
If you do end up getting one, please get some formal training while you still can. Remember that long guns are much more useful in a survival situation than handguns. Buy something in a common caliber that you can readily find ammunition for. NATO calibers are good because there is surplus. Feel free to send me a DM!
dissuade217@reddit
if you get one, just make sure you learn how to use it, store it safely, and don't tell anyone outside your household about it.
treetopalarmist_1@reddit
If they can pull all their cities together then they will start going after blue cities.
Zealousideal_Oil4571@reddit
Imho, the only way to put a stop to it all is for a lower level office or NCO to announce that he/she and his/her troops refuse to follow an unconstitutional/illegal order. This would be a tough road, though. He or she would have to ensure support from their troops. Also there would be legal hell to pay, a costly proposition for anyone with a family to support.
I, for one, would be happy to contribute to a support fund.
Calm-Ad-2155@reddit
I think people trying to prevent a group of government regulated employees from doing their job has created this situation. When people are shooting at ICE and criminals keep running free on the streets after being let out, you have to make some tough decisions.
forgot-my-toothbrush@reddit
For people wondering why these States, why 1700 troops, and what the purpose of this is: It's this.
There are genuinely still Americans with this level of understanding of current events.
A few members of the national guard will be deployed in places where they'll see no resistance, because the people genuinely believe that it is necessary to clean up the immigration crises in Wyoming.
When National Emergencies are declared and met with resistance cities like New York and Chigaco, these are exactly the people who are going to come out with soundbytes about how the national guard has virtually eliminated violent crime in Idaho and the "woke left" won't let them do their jobs in the rest of the country.
That's how you maintain the control in an authoritarian government. You make sure that enough of the population will ignore the dismantling of their economy, personal freedom, and the rule of law, genuinely believing that it is in their own best interest. I'm going to go out on a limb and take a wild guess that the States seeing national guard deployment are probably among the least educated in the country.
Haveyounodecorum@reddit
This was the full reason given? Thank you for quoting it. In my general shock that this is happening, I was wondering how this action was being justified. We know what the real reason is,

wicketwarrick190@reddit
They are creating support for this type of action. Going to red states ensures the local populations will be receptive to what’s going on. Those states are going to start passing more laws infringing on personal rights and protections. It’s going to start creating a greater and greater contrast between blue and red states - this is the actual goal.
From these new power centers, the red wave will gain a lot more traction, especially because the federal government will be actively weakening blue states through reduction of funding and angles like we are seeing in anti-DEI policies against the Ivy League, etc…
Red states are about to become thoroughly red. Then they’ll start really pushing their agenda on places like New York and California.
The civil war has started. I’m not even trying to be dramatic or conspiratorial. It’s just that right now, only one side is fighting it - the other side doesn’t seem to realize they’re in a war yet.
Throwy_throw@reddit
I have a genuine question, 1700 guardsmen across 19 states is less than 100 people in each state. Aside from panicking people, what is the whole point in this?
MundaneCockroach9474@reddit

Creepy-Border-7582@reddit
They're gonna ship in Russian, or russian-backed, mercenaries and disguise them as national guard and ICE by throwing a mask on them.
Zoomercoffee@reddit
1700 / 19 = 89. I don’t think that 89 troops per state are going to do much
_HornyPhilosopher_@reddit
How many men do you need to control a big country like USA? 1,700 is barely enough, not even for a single major city.
forgot-my-toothbrush@reddit
From the look of that list, I think the answer is just 1.
It's not going to take a lot of manpower to get chanting members of this cult to go along with whatever Trump wants.

Wait, does that mean trump would say it's time and cultists would bring out their gunz? That would be fucking scary.

alej2297@reddit
I think the forest is being missed for the trees here. I don’t believe this is the start of an occupation. I think it is worse. I think it is actually a form of outsourcing. They are using national guardsmen to do the grunt work of actually moving people while ICE can focus only on their raids. It’s terrifying but in a different way. They just want their concentration camps so badly.
SWtoNWmom@reddit
That's an interesting take. Also, maybe using the Guard to do the farm work and jobs left vacant but very needed?
alej2297@reddit
Another reason I could see this being used is for legal defense. If an “illegal’s” rights are trampled by the military, the slimeballs in the White House could try to use national security excuses to weasel out of paying restitution. It’s corporate outsourcing for fascist cruelty. It is so gross.

There are about 14 Red States that are going to be literally bankrupt over the next year without intervention. They have less than like 3 billion in reserved each so they can lay for a year before slashing all civilian serves outside of military and police oppression forces. Nebraska, Arkansas, Kentucky and others and others have less than 3-4 months of money this type of money and need Trump to give them resources before the midterms.
Instead of going bankrupt, the plan actually is to drive the states to bankruptcy so then private equity actors and the technology kleptocrats can establish their corporate cities and fiefdoms.
Even when the power changes the current Democrat leadership will support and will keep them, unless the power changes in that party.
We are running out of political discourse and when this happens, history tells, even USA's own history tells us that violence and revolution follows.
