What do you have with your chicken Kiev?

Serious question. I like the garlic kievs but don’t know what to have to tie them into a meal.
ItsNotAboutThe-Pasta@reddit
Mash and veggies.
RoyceCoolidge@reddit
This is not a personal attack btw, but does anyone else hate the use of 'veggies' rather than just 'veg'?
Loud_Laugh_5660@reddit
Absolutely definitely VEG
ItsNotAboutThe-Pasta@reddit
We always say veggies in my family. I didn't realize it was a thing to be irritated by.
pharmamess@reddit
Now you know, you can change.
ennsea@reddit
They complain about veggies rather than veg… as opposed to rather than vegetables?
Yorkshireteaonly@reddit
Yep no idea why. I'm not usually bothered by these types of things either.
-Lumiro-@reddit
Yes, it’s yet another awful Americanism. They talk like children.
feztones@reddit
Don't you all say "telly" instead of TV or television
jtr99@reddit
Can confirm that Australians say it too, but then again we put a -y sound on the end of fucking everything.

Yes. The only other possible combo is buttery mash and peas but chips are definitely the preferred option.

Actually the Tesco Finest ones are still spelled the old way, which is why they are the only ones that I'll buy.
mtmp40k@reddit
Can you explain why the name of a food being changed to reflect an increasingly global mindset ires you?
BarNo3385@reddit
Because places, countries, foods, even waterways have always been known by different names in different languages.
London is London in English, Londres in Spanish and French, Londra in Italian, Londen in Dutch, Lontoo in Finnish, Landan in anglicised Arabic etc.
No one else feels the need to runaround loan wording the indigenous spelling of places and cities into their own language when they already have a word for it, and, I'd wager, not a single Brit is offended by the Finns calling London Lontoo, or feel they should change their language to match our spelling.
The whole thing smacks of a sort of reverse faux humility that's really just about virtual signalling. We are somehow so enlightened that we alone go round editing the language to overwrite our words for things with native spellings and pronunciations to signal how inclusive we are.
Dazpiece@reddit
So stunning and brave 🙄
UnpredictiveList@reddit
Leave them alone. They’re well cool and edgy.
-Audio-Video-Disco-@reddit
What a ridiculous thing to admit to strangers on the internet.
slimboyslim9@reddit
And everyone in the shop stood up and applauded.
_FreddieLovesDelilah@reddit (OP)
No, it’s spelled Kiev on the packet.
flakkane@reddit
Not every shop has switched to actual spelling but it is called a Kyiv
_FreddieLovesDelilah@reddit (OP)
Ah okay, thank you! Hopefully they correct it soon.
MontanaMinuteman@reddit
Nah its Kiev as the city it is named after
sock_cooker@reddit
Some might say that's a bit hollow, but they're not hollow, they're filled with garlic butter!
inspectorgadget9999@reddit
Unless is the supermarket own brand ones that pop dying cooking and all the garlic butter comes out out into the baking tray
sharps2020@reddit
Put it on top of a slice of bread, then in the oven, you might as well get a piece of garlic bread out of it.

TwoValuable@reddit
So I used to be rice and sweetcorn because that's what my mum used to serve it as. I added mushrooms because why not.
Now I like having them with stuffed gnocchi (The Rana brand) and either med veg, asparagus, or tenderstem broccoli.
A lazy beige dinner is with potato waffles and spaghetti hoops.
dannyboomhead@reddit
I have sweetcorn and white rice. Never seen it as a combo anywhere else but its become a comfort food for years now. Dont know what started it, but it works. Garlic butter mixes everything together nicely 🤌
TwoValuable@reddit
My mum always used to serve it like this. I elevate it by doing garlic mushrooms and adding a bit of garlic butter into the sweetcorn at the end.
rennzu@reddit
I have them on rice too! (i am asian tho) but i agree the garlic butter and the rice combo is 🤌

Hey thanks for replying,. Quick question, can potato waffles be done in the toaster or is that just normal waffles?
catsaregreat78@reddit
I still do my (Birdseye potato) waffles in the toaster!
TheAether78@reddit
Yes they can but from frozen they tend to spit a bit. Leave them for about 5 mins out of the freezer before putting in a toaster. They are waffley versatile though.
Dimac99@reddit
I'm going to have that jingle stuck in my head till I fall asleep now.

Oooh yes I haven’t had potato croquettes in a few years actually. They make me laugh actually because my mum always thought they were called croquet potatoes! I looked at the packaging one day as an older child and was like mum I don’t think we’ve been saying the right thing haha.

I had them in actual Kyiv and they were always served with mashed potato & veg. I also had a chicken Kyiv cocktail in a posh bar and that was an experience. It was like chicken gravy but actually alcoholic.
Sygga@reddit
If I'm feeling lazy, chips or spinach and ricotta tortellini/ravioli. If I'm feeling less lazy, feta pasta with pepper and tomato, or make a bacon cheese sauce (bacon, garlic, cream cheese, bit of milk and some grated cheese) to pour over some pasta.
Maybe some roasted asparagus or, if I'm doing the pasta, some broad beans or chickpeas.
TeeblesTee@reddit
Mashed potatoes every time. Maybe some veg if I'm feeling particularly healthy :)

Partners veggie, so we get the plant version.
More often than not, I’ll cook a pack of Batchelors Golden Rice and roast a tray of Mediterranean veg and I’ll fold the two together with the Kiev on the side.
Our other option is some oven chips and either a side salad or petit pois.
MillyMcMophead@reddit
This is similar to what I have. Lidl do a pack of frozen stir-fry Mediterranean veg and I either have that (it's delicious) or veg rice.
My plant based Kievs are from Aldi and they're superb. My husband has chicken ones and honestly, I think he's missing out.

Chips - usually cooked on the same pan if I can so they get the garlicky goodness - and whatever veg I have lying around. Usually sweetcorn, carrots or cabbage
trustmeimabuilder@reddit
I'm a huge fan of a good quality chicken kyev, but I'd just like to have a little moan about some supermarket own brand ones. Instead of using garlic butter, they use some weird white sauce with minimal garlic. They seem to use the same goo in garlic baguettes. Looking at you, Morrisons. Are other own brands similar?
Should be accompanied by baby new potatoes, well buttered, and peas, or possibly, green beans. In my opinion.

It's a good question, I think mash potatoes are a great accompaniment, or boiled rice. Sauteed potatoes are great too with green beans.
Did this the other day with a chicken Milanese which was really good. Anything to use up the courgettes at the moment
1 red onion sliced
2 courgettes halved and sliced
2 tomatoes cut into thin wedges
Handful of chopped basil
Juice of half a lemon.
Fry the onion and courgette in 2 tbsp olive oil for 8 mins Add the tomatoes, basil, and lemon juice and heat to through. Season well.
