And no sources? I'm about ready to leave this sub. It's politicized slop more and more.
Noobofitall@reddit
Google it genius
Deadeyez@reddit
You could literally Google it to confirm from various sources instead of just declaring things you don't like or agree with "political slop"
Sudden_Hovercraft_56@reddit
the onus is on the op to provide a source.
jgo3@reddit
I could, but instead I call 'em like I see 'em.
distractionfactory@reddit
First thing I thought when I saw this. The AI Slop really distracts from the headline and undermines the integrity of the source. Let's say I own a news outlet and need a generic image for an article. Sure, I might use AI, but I'm at least going to choose one that looks sane. Or, and hear me out. Spend 30 seconds in photoshop cleaning it up.
Kashmir79@reddit
I think the âTrump does a controversial thingâ headline really undermines the integrity more. These are actions by the State Department pursuant to an investigation by US DOT. Sources that get their clicks from rage bait and Trump porn headlines should be automatically considered suspect until proven otherwise.
RamonaLittle@reddit
Or, hear me out . . . pay a photographer to take a photo.
distractionfactory@reddit
That kind of thinking went out of style a decade ago, in 2024.
RamonaLittle@reddit
Reputable news outlets do pay photographers, or at least license photos from a reputable library like AP.
WloveW@reddit
Maybe they were trying to be ironic and showing what a crash move it's gonna be? like driving the wrong way on the freeway?
No, I don't think there are that many layers to these people.
Sudden_Hovercraft_56@reddit
Or use one of the billions of royalty free stock images. I am sure there is at least 1 of a truck.
big_roomba@reddit
hey now, have you considered that maybe theres no real photos of a semi on the highway?
edit - shit, there are. nevermind.
ptear@reddit
I've seen a person take one before.
Haniel113@reddit
I almost thought I was on r/trucksim LOL.
biscuts99@reddit
Yes. There are no photos of semi trucks on the entire internet.Â
RazzleStorm@reddit
Listen, if you donât like half-sized road signs in the middle of a forest and trucks driving the wrong way, youâre un-American.
MotherPotential@reddit
I didnât notice the ai thing until you pointed it out. I guess the road uniformity struck me aside from the sign thing
HammerofBonking@reddit
I detest Trump but trucking visas are no different to me than excessive H1B visas to depress wages in other areas. If anything, we need significantly more stringent requirements for obtaining a CDL, as well as higher wages for drivers.
Belezibub@reddit
The thing is though truckers are in huge demand, my parents own a trucking company and itâs a pain in the ass to replace people and they make bank.
Ne4143@reddit
So this will most likely be reversed by Monday.
Proletariat-Prince@reddit
True, and there's a discussion to be had there, but classic trump overreaction is not the answer.
Changes like this need to be rolled out over time so we can replace those drivers. You can't hire and train thousands of drivers overnight.
Sure, he's on the right track here, but this is the most "dumb guy" reactionary solution to capitalize on the xenophobia of it all, not to actually make positive change for drivers.
scothc@reddit
There are too many drivers right now, regardless of citizenship status. Rates have been garbage since the covid surge, and MC's have been dying in droves every since
Proletariat-Prince@reddit
Maybe. I'm not an expert in the field. I just know that big changes, done fast, usually come with unexpected consequences.
We shouldn't be reckless with this kind of thing.
RoddyDost@reddit
100%
Iâm not sure about the rest of the country but here in Florida the quality of driving from truckers has been getting absolutely atrocious since COVID. In large part itâs due to lax requirements for obtaining a CDL, including I guess issuing them to people who canât even speak English. Itâs so easy to kill someone when youâre behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler. Itâs a tough job that deserves strict licensing requirements and fair compensation.
NoTerm3078@reddit
Sure, I gotta agree. I'm more thinking of a cost of goods increase coming from this than a supply chain struggle due to lack of drivers. There will be drivers, they will just get paid more. And if that's their fair value, then it just is. We should be paying drivers what they deserve. We also shouldn't be taking advantage of immigrants, of any status, by underpaying them cause they don't speak English as a first language or have the right papers. People are skipping that part. If we as a whole are underpaying these people, that's exploitative.
Desperate_Damage4632@reddit
More inflation.
Amlethvshamlet@reddit
100% agree. 3 out of 4 employees under 30 in my tech related office job are H1B visa holders. Thereâs no argument that can be made to support this practice. Unless of course youâre willing to admit itâs wage suppression.
Celevra75@reddit
Theirs no baby in this bathwater. Ban all truckers, one crashed so they are clearly terrible for everyone! Â
Icy_Capital7175@reddit
Truck driver here: part of the reason I left the industry after my first three years was I learned the ins and outs of how logistics work?
Best case scenario youâre an owner operator and you have a operating cost of about last time I checked $2.40 a mile thatâs to make it worthwhile for a family man to go out over the road and pay all their expenses insurance maintenance fuel truck payment, trailer payment, etc.
So for your average American, they need to be making that much to be living a comfortable life
Now you have imported visa workers who are making five dollars a day working 15 hours a day in their country coming over to make two potentially 3 to 400 a day which is a come up from their perspective
So in that regard, they are winning
Not to mention theyâre in a new freightliner, cruising in America like thatâs a huge come up in a lot of places
The downside is, American workers are grossly undercut
An American in a modest city trying to provide for his wife and four children cannot compete with the wages that these guys make
So itâs not that thereâs a driver gap necessarily as much as there is a pay gap
And it shouldnât come as a shock that what you buy is what you get
I can tell you firsthand, you can offer me $1 million a year to drive in Russia because I am not familiar with the layout of the land nor the dialect of Russian street signs
Personally, I feel that I would be putting everybodyâs life at risk as a driver and a foreign country with a totally different dialect
Our politicians, lobbyist, and big corporations have done what theyâve always done since the 70s and sold out the American people for profit
We are the commodity that is exploited and ultimately betrayed for profit
Granted, I have met truckers on the Pacific Northwest who work a 9 to 5 their home every night and they pull 150 K a year
That is far and few between
Special_Disaster_844@reddit
Good. But they need to pursue the companies hiring these guys with bs credentials.
acrowdintheface@reddit
I've been a commercial driver for 20+ years and this is a good thing. The reason the industry is throwing a fit is because a lot of these foreign drivers will work for peanuts. Theyre dangerous on the road and put too many people at risk. Besides most of them lack common courtesy and drive like assholes i.e. playing leapfrog in the hills causing long backups doing the 1mph snail races yp the hill instead of dropping a gear and maintaining the flow of traffic.
justforTW@reddit
If they are banning truckers who canât speak English doesnât it make sense to also ban people who canât read or write?
Liber_Vir@reddit
They aren't banning them, english literacy has ALWAYS been a requirement for CDLs in the US. They are simply starting to enforce it.
WardenWolf@reddit
Now if only they'd make that law for ALL driver licenses.
SharkOnGames@reddit
It's amazing to me how many people get upset about the government enforcing laws that already exist, use to be enforced, and have saved lives in the past.
It's quite literally about saving lives...and people get upset about store shelves being less full for a couple of weeks while things get sorted.
Why do people put such low value on saving lives? It's weird.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
This isn't why people are upset, you're just very stupid.
SharkOnGames@reddit
5 seconds of Google search proves you wrong.
CDLs were given out to many illegal immigrants grants.Â
You can say otherwuse, but it makes you wrong, not me. Â
Look it up yourself.
Liber_Vir@reddit
Nobody cares about death unless it effects them personally, but a delay in getting their new crap from china always effects them personally immediately.
FreakishlyNarrow@reddit
Every comment you make on this thread is just full of poorly camouflaged bigotry.
SharkOnGames@reddit
By your standards we have to call ALL US made products exceptional? Or can we admit that some things are junk when made in certain countries? It's not bigotry, it's factual.
There's entire studies done on what happened to quality of our products (longevity, etc) when we outsourced US manufacturing. Hint: It got really bad.
therapistofcats@reddit
Where in the law does it say if one trucker gets in an accident we freeze all trucker visas? Hell, this guy didn't even have a visa. Trump should resign. He let this guy in. He let the accident happen on his watch. We should hold our highest leaders accountable, why do we put such a low value on saving lives? Remember during COVID when people wouldn't wear masks because lives were of little value?Â
Contralogic@reddit
Enforcement is the wrong word here .
Blantly attacking the livelihood of 18% of trucking work force and the Americans who depend on their goods .
Enforcement would mean a structurally test applied across the trucking industry with effective spot checks. Going after those with visas has other motivations.
Liber_Vir@reddit
Effective spot checks like giving them tests when they pull into scalehouses for permitting checks? Stuff like that?
That's exactly what they're doing, but as an institution the trucking industry is in deep need of reforms from top to bottom.
As an example they revoked the dot number of the company of the most recent incident in florida that pulled the illegal u turn.
Which does absolutely nothing.
If that company follows the same trends as the others follow they already have a backup MC/USDOT number gaining age and in approximately 30 days they will take their door stickers off the trucks, put new ones on, and continue to operate under a new name as if nothing changed.
Aside from extra dot numbers gaining age some companies already operate multiple LLCs just in case. Instead of 150 trucks under one company they spread them out by 20s or 50s. Depending on how much they can tolerate to lose if shit hits the fan.
The trucking industry in this country is in dire need of rework, because as it stands now its a giant game of "fuck american drivers". That goes for truckers and four wheelers both. Even back when I was driving they'd pay $500 to a team of mexican lumpers to unload the truck no questions asked, but they would expect me, as the driver, to do it for free, more often than not downstacking the pallets as the warehouse demanded.
"What do you mean free?"
As drivers' were paid by the mile. If the wheels ain't spinning, we ain't getting shit, or if they do pay its some stupid nominal amount like $40.
Contralogic@reddit
Thank you for sharing . Totally understand your point regarding unloading/$40. The drivers we use don't have that responsibility, they are mainly ltl and ftl long distance.
N
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
They already do. English tests are mandatory already.
justforTW@reddit
Most states have alternatives to reading and writing.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
Which ones bud? Note: I got my CDL in two states due to letting it lapse once, so which states have that? Come on now, since you know it right?
VirtualDoll@reddit
The alternative: looking the other way
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
Not really relevant considering interstate commerce is exclusively controlled and enforced by the FBI through Congress.
Desperate_Damage4632@reddit
They're banning ALL visas, not just the unqualified. They could have just as easily made more strenuous requirements.
This is a typical Republican response. Instead of being thoughtful and precise, just break everything.
SlumLordOfTheFlies@reddit
We donât need an economy built on the backs of illegals and another poorly paid immigrants. If paying an American a decent wage to drive the truck makes cheap Chinese crap too expensive then idiots who spend all day watching the shopping channel need to find something new to do.
Desperate_Damage4632@reddit
The average American has barely any savings so apparently you do need all that.
Why do you think the country has been successful? American Grit? Nope. Cheap labor, cheap stuff. Country built by immigrants.
SlumLordOfTheFlies@reddit
If cheap Labor was the key to success, Mexico would be an amazing place.
Abundant energy and a good education system is what we should focus on. Not importing a bunch of slaves who get abused by their employers.
Desperate_Damage4632@reddit
Latin America is not successful because their resources were stolen and their governments were corrupted by Europe and the US.
Jayne_Dough_@reddit

RachaelsBean@reddit
They should ban them too. Iâm sick of these morons.
a_futhy@reddit
kaminabis@reddit
Theres a big discussion in QuĂŠbec about this, since they first talked about banning visas for truckers who couldnt speak good english.
Theres a lot of french truckers in QuĂŠbec who arent bilangual.
philthewiz@reddit
I hope those same truckers that were part of the convoy during the pandemic will acknowledge this insanity and apply the same amount of outrage as the Ottawa siege.
Oh wait! They won't care because they drank Trump's koolaid!
Liber_Vir@reddit
Trump had nothing to do with this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humboldt_Broncos_bus_crash
FreakishlyNarrow@reddit
And that has what to do with anything other than it being a truck involved in a wreck?
Liber_Vir@reddit
Besides revealing you're too lazy to use google?
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5117wnl812o
FreakishlyNarrow@reddit
Oh... Xenophobia, got it.
Liber_Vir@reddit
Deporting people for gross negligence resulting in mass murder makes someone a xenophobe. Got it.
Raygaholic420@reddit
Where's your family from? And if you're not native you should shut the fuck up. You are the descendant of an immigrant. Good lord you people are thick as fuck.
FreakishlyNarrow@reddit
Not what I said. I don't know why I'm bothering to explain this to you, but you posted it to someone making a comment about the trucker convoy/protest in Canada during COVID. The only connection between your comment and the rest of this thread is just "immigrants bad" which is basically the definition of xenophobia.
Liber_Vir@reddit
Nah, UNQUALIFIED immigrants bad. Which seems to be the part you're skipping over.
randomheromonkey@reddit
This is completely unrelated and as soon as you got called a xenophobe you moved the goal posts and called it corporate greed. Sad.
Liber_Vir@reddit
I called it greed and corruption over two hours ago right here. I have been utterly consistent. Now stop trying to convict me with assumptions inside your mind based on things I have not said.
https://www.reddit.com/r/PrepperIntel/comments/1mx5pg9/comment/na3wn66/?context=3
big_roomba@reddit
their choice of saying "murder" there says a lot
even if the driver was entirely at fault while being negligent as it appears, thats not what murder is
Strange-Ad2470@reddit
It wonât cripple nothing. We have an oversupply of trucks in the market. And the warehouses are packed to the gills! Please panic buy.. business is slow. Scaled for a Global economy slowed by a trade war in under a year :(
ImSirius678@reddit
But w8 I thought protesting mandated injections was an absolute unforgivable outrage, and those who did it deserved to have all their assets frozen, to be tarred and feathered, and to be openly shot (with needles to vaxxinate them of course) in the street? Was that not the case for those monsters? I must be misremembering and surely it doesnât point out hypocrisy that âboth sidesâ constantly display. When my guy does it heâs wonderful when your guy does it heâs a baddie
Couldnât be that weâre all gullible misled peons waiting on daddy (or mommy) gubmint to save us no definitely not that. Â Hmm
EarlGreyAllDay6969@reddit
As an Ottawa resident that experienced the occupation, they were mostly not truckers.
The trucker Union even disavowed them. There were a few owner-operator truckers there but most people were just unemployed rural folks.
I hold no I'll will towards truckers in general and don't really like associating the convoy with them.
spinningcolours@reddit
They will keep blaming Trudeau.
AlessaGillespie86@reddit
In the US you have to be able to at least speak/understand enough English to read and adhere to signs, per the FMCSA
Cane607@reddit
Trump stupidity is a black hole, everything gets sucked into it and nothing escapes it.
Pitiful-MobileGamer@reddit
A lot of lumber supplying truckers out of Quebec don't speak strong English. Huge lumber mills in Quebec supply a lot of the Eastern seaboard
Canukian84@reddit
Theres also a lot of truckers in canada that can speak neither well enough to be licensed, but they buy them from a diploma mill... so?
EarlGreyAllDay6969@reddit
That's not how trucking licensing works in Canada.Â
Canukian84@reddit
Thats not how trucking licensing SHOULD work in Canada, but alas here we are.
tarnishedbutgrand@reddit
Unfortunately they are not entirely wrong.
SisyphusCoffeeBreak@reddit
I read this comment in a QuĂŠbec accent.
ThatGamerMoshpit@reddit
Thatâs an easy and reasonable fix though as it is a national language
JimmyKorr@reddit
Trucker-mills are a problem. Undertrained drivers being put behind the wheel should be curbed.
BabushkaRaditz@reddit
Trump- blows us all up
Apologist- well you see there IS a problem with our society đ¤ˇđ¤ˇ
Rods-from-God@reddit
Thatâs not what theyâre saying/ doing.
Trucker mills are not just bad for workers, theyâre a danger to the public. They maximize hours, force newbie drivers onto insane routes, offer bare minimum for training, and pay next to nothing.
Theyâve got such a bad reputation that itâs literally a joke-
âJust Barely Hired Usually Not Trainedâ
âSure Wish I Finished Trainingâ
etc
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
Exactly, if you want quality work, you have to pay for quality work. JB Hunt and SWIFT refuse to pay living wages, they are the reason 70% of truckers quit in 6 months. SWIFT has a pass thru rate nearly as high as Amazons.
Capable_Plastic_3400@reddit
mega carriers, like swift, entire business model is bringing in new cdl holders to work 6 months to a year for slave wages since they self insure. once a driver has a year or two of experience their job prospects open up once their able to be insured by smaller carriers that are able to pay better. they are starter companies for a reason.
Liber_Vir@reddit
Turnover rate in the trucking industry is something like 70% in the first six months. That ain't because 70% of the people they hire are bad. It don't help though. Trucking as a whole has been rotten for a good 40 years, and this is just exposing it to the public.
JimmyKorr@reddit
Guy, thats not really the point.
philthewiz@reddit
What is your point?
JimmyKorr@reddit
that the trucking industry is becoming dangerous from deregulation because the owners want to exploit discount foreign labor and are hustling them through âtrainingâ onto the streets. This will curb that.
winterbird@reddit
No, it won't. Removing a portion of the workforce will only lead to more of less qualified workers doing the job, because the pool of people to hire got smaller.
JimmyKorr@reddit
orâŚthe existing population wont be as easy to exploit. Returning the balance if power to labor is always good.
philthewiz@reddit
Just like removing farm and construction workers with ICE? Will it fix it by destroying the economy?
Isn't there a more efficient way of doing it?
JimmyKorr@reddit
There is a way of doing it through enforcement of regulations. Im not deluded enough to think this isnt anything but stock maga racist bullshit, but there is a problem in trucking that this could address inadvertantly.
philthewiz@reddit
I agree with this. It just wasn't clear enough in your first statement.
JimmyKorr@reddit
fair enough

Genuine problem in Ontario, Canada. It's been crash after crash of semi's.
Drivers end up not licensed and not legally allowed to work in the country. They get arrested and released until their court date.
What do you think they do ? They take a flight and disappear after causing damages and deaths. It's fucking frustrating

If I were a hostile foreign power with control of 2.5 branches of the US federal government, I struggle to think what Iâd do differently. Itâs being held together by the tension between competing forces of corruption right now.
CharmingMechanic2473@reddit
The point is to get the USA people âso lowâthat we turn on each other. Like the defeated masses after WW1 ended. People had no fight left in them.

Does this effect H2A drivers?

Headline: âOld Man Waves Tiny Fists in Air Over Traffic in His Neighborhoodâ
Commandmanda@reddit
You have no idea how many DOT certifications we did at my urgent care clinic that involved people who could not speak English.
They were Russian, Mexican, Venezuelan, Peruvian, Albanian, German....
No doubt all of them were here with Valid Work Visas.
I'd estimate 1/2 were Visa workers, in Florida. Yes, this is going to screw up our shipping big time.
SlumLordOfTheFlies@reddit
Wow, if only there were Americans who knew how to drive.
Commandmanda@reddit
Or wanted to do it for a living.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
Then the companies can pay a living wage.
Commandmanda@reddit
They should.
SlumLordOfTheFlies@reddit
Then they need to pay more, itâs not complicated.
Maybe if they paid $100,000 a year youâd be a truck driver and the illegals who donât speak English can work at urgent care.
Commandmanda@reddit
I hate driving. and rude, mannnnnn.....!!!
What I understand is that they make very decent wages. It's the long hours and distances (days from home) that keep people from doing it.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
If your urgent care was commiting literal fraud and you let that occur, sure seems like you're the guilty one here not the immigrants.
Commandmanda@reddit
Oh, dear. Where to start: It is up to the DMV to decide if an immigrant is capable of translating English language road signs.
Still, my medical coworkers often commented amongst themselves that they believed a driver should be fluent in English.
An Urgent Care is in charge of making sure the driver can see and has health good enough to drive what essentially is a deadly weapon down our highways and byways.
I can assure you, we saw more White, elderly, hypertensive, overweight drivers than we cared to discuss, ones with obvious back trauma from years of sitting (with occasional opioid addiction related to it), and possible PTSD from dealing with other careless drivers.
HungryHypocrite135@reddit
Too bad. Here I am not driving. Took a couple years off to get healthier. 24 years OTR.
Can't get an offer better than $0.65 a mile.
Tough shit.
ThatBaseball7433@reddit
I canât figure out the low rates getting paid. Doesnât even break even for gas and time, how do they make sense? Why do people take these loads?
ImNotKitten@reddit
Because there are 400k illegal aliens with CDL's that will do the work for cheaper and live in their sleeper trucks.
thefrankyg@reddit
How is an undocumented immigrants getting a CDL?
ImNotKitten@reddit
States like California are giving them. Media not covering important shit. Look up Harjinder Singh
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm saying no way is it 400k, and the only people dumb enough to believe that don't work in the industry.
ImNotKitten@reddit
I work in the industry but okay. These are numbers from DOT
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
I've worked in the industry as well, and no they aren't. You're a consistent poster in conservative, basically everything you say can be ignored because you openly lie. You're literally saying it's the democrats fault for not releasing the epstein list when all the democrats voted to release it and all the conservatives(like you) voted to protect the pedophile. Nobody should listen to anything you say because you protect pedophiles.
ImNotKitten@reddit
Lol okay
threewhitelights@reddit
Just looked him up. He had a visa after requesting asylum. The only people claiming he was illegal at the time of the accident are the people latching on to this as a shock piece, and you fell for it.
If you're gunna complain about the media, at least follow sources that don't make shit up.
RachaelsBean@reddit
Itâs all illegal morons like this story who take the jobs that pay nothing.
Deport their asses. Stop letting them in as well. Maybe then we can have some real professionals trucking again.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
This isn't true, and the only people dumb enough to believe it are gullible dumbasses incapable of understanding basic facts, and don't work in the industry.
Jayne_Dough_@reddit
Says the lot lizard.
HungryHypocrite135@reddit
That is for a company driver rate. The companies are probably bidding 3-4$ a mile for contract loads.
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
True but go look at any load board and you'll see tons that are even with fuel cost without factoring in anything else.
ThatBaseball7433@reddit
.65 is but if you look at the load boards youâll see many under gas cost.
Smart_Yogurt_989@reddit
Sounds like an easy decision.
ThatBaseball7433@reddit
Sort of, you can just bid yourself out of a job. I just donât know why people are taking loads that donât break even. Are they getting subsidized by someone? If so, who?
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
Yup, I'd drive in a heartbeat if the rates were good enough, they're not. Fuck em, let em fold until they start paying what we're worth. I have my CDL, did OTR for 2 years, was a firefighter for 15, willing to go back to work once they're willing to match the pay I was getting in the bakken hauling fracking stuff where I had great insurance, good pay, never left my area and had a comfortable(not rich, but never struggled) life. I don't want much, just to be able to afford to buy a house again eventually, enough food for me and mine, and new cloths whenever needed with a vacation every year.
Pontiacsentinel@reddit
In US GSA rate is .70, sheeet.
Cpt_sneakmouse@reddit
This. They want to keep the industry a dumpster fire but don't like the quality of people that are willing to accept that. Fuck em.
monos_muertos@reddit
That's exactly what I get between job sites and I'm not even a trucker or courier.
ProtestedGyro@reddit
Translation: We will cripple the supply chain because we can't bring in an exploitable work force.
Shrewta@reddit
I have an idea for ya that will blow your mind. We keep the supply chains and end the exploitation. It's really that easy, but it's never about exploitation for you, is it?
Smart-Struggle-6927@reddit
It is, but it would require US Companies to pay truckers wages that they refuse to pay because it would cut into shareholder profit, and republicans never want to address that, they just want slave labor done by US citizens.
s1gnalZer0@reddit
How, specifically, are we going to keep supply chains running after suddenly removing a bunch of truck drivers? It's not like there are people yearning for the driver's seat, especially when pay is shit and so many trucking companies are running predatory truck lease/financing schemes.
SlumLordOfTheFlies@reddit
I guess maybe we all need to pay a little more for stuff to avoid getting killed on the highway by an unqualified truck driver
s1gnalZer0@reddit
God knows these companies won't accept lower profits in the name of safety.

I hate this. My mom was killed by a locally born, white, truck driver. 2 years later and man's still driving, no charge, nothing. Brown guy kills, and suddenly people care about trucker vetting because foreigners can't drive.

I mean, Uvalde cops let 20 kids die while 360 cops sat outside listening to him killing children and did nothing.
A guy that overstayed a visa(maybe? truth isn't really out there yet, conflicting reports) kills 3 ppl and Trump bans all immigrants from driving trucks. Interesting where the GOP's heart lies, never with dead children, always "whatever we can do to hurt anyone that immigrated here".

This is Trump paying off the Teamsters for their support. He's been looking for a reason to cut the trucking visas, and he found one. The union truckers want to cut out the international drivers so they can jack up shipping rates. The consumer pays in the end.

There is a shit ton of undesirable freight, that is vital to the functioning of our modern economy. This low paying, dirty, smelly, freight maybe the component issues to a larger product supply chain.
Good old-fashioned red blooded Americans have decided that they won't haul this cheap undesirable freight, the question is will they have a choice. I've been in this supply chain market now for over 25 years, and one thing I've always seen is that trucking rates will take a nosedive and many companies will not survive. Boom and bust cycles

This is maybe the simplest example for why we shouldn't use work Visas.
Trucking does not require a person to be extremely smart or talented. It requires a person willing to learn, not do drugs, and be away from home and family to make money. We have plenty of those people here as natural citizens in the USA. What's lacking is the money.
Pay truckers a better wage. Make the suck worth it.
Will costs go up a bit? Yes.
Will all that money be supporting us citizens and communities, circulating in the US economy? Also yes.
Therefore, it's a net-neutral.
Pay an immigrant and people die, and the money is going to their home, not ours.

XDBEA@reddit
I have worked in this industry for years and the â18%â foreign born drivers is shenanigans. Itâs 50% AT MINIMUM. Most of them canât speak English at all, canât even check in at a shipper without a translator. Donât show up to facilities wearing the proper PPE (close toed shoes) and the amount of calls we get for drivers pissing or taking a shit under a trailer being loaded AT A FOOD GRADE FACILITY that has restrooms available is staggering. By no means am I anti immigration, my grandparents came here but ffs itâs bad. 90% of my contacts are overseas, India, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, & Pakistan just to name a few. For those of you that donât believe me, I have to explain what a padlock (yes a normal padlock) is every day, numerous times a day.
phoneguyfl@reddit
I get you have an axe to grind against immigrants, but do you believe there aren't domestic white boys who are just as clueless and dumb?
XDBEA@reddit
No, I donât have an axe to grind about anything. Just stating facts. There are idiots that are American drivers as well but there are stark differences. My point is that the majority of people driving an 80,000lb vehicle, canât even comprehend that shitting in a parking lot of the place everyoneâs food is made isnât ok. You should not be comfortable driving next to or in front of a semi now days
Pea-and-Pen@reddit
My husband works for a VA hospital in Logistics. He said they frequently get truck drivers who neither speak, read, nor write English. In order to communicate with them, the drivers use an app to translate. They canât read the signs of where to go on the campus so someone has to go direct them to the proper location. Like they canât communicate to them that they need to go to building 3 and the driver be able to find it. Many donât have drivers licenses. He says they are of all nationalities.
Iâm not declaring right or wrong on the decision but it doesnât seem safe for people to be driving big trucks if they canât read English. Much less speak or write. By the same logic, I wouldnât presume to go to a foreign country and try to be a truck driver if I didnât know the language, laws, and customs.
All that said, this is one of those sticky situations where you are darned if you do and darned if you donât. I certainly donât pretend I have the answers.

Go watch the video of the crash. The two dudes act like they accidentally drove over a raccoon......they decapitated a family of three like it was nothing. he wasn't even stressed on the badge cam footage, lol. the driver...man....look on his face was "well, I guess I am getting a 2nd write up this week....oh well. " truly wild
grummanae@reddit
I have seen the video... I am not downplaying what they did
But also ... my man there is no way in Hell you can judge a person's reaction from a video on something like this.
The driver made a big fuckup ... not excusing that ... he should have had enough common sense to realize what he was doing
Problem is common sense isn't a flower found in most people's gardens currently
His reaction on camera vs what he felt could have been two opposite things I know it doesn't look that way but the men were probably in shock to some degree
Do I think he should be deported? Yes after he serves time for vehicular manslaughter and negligent homicide
Do I think he's guilty of at least 3 counts of those crimes ... well theres a video of it so
Do I think he was probably trained by a license mill ... given his lack of Situational Awareness of what his 53 ft trailer would do to 2 lanes of freeway ... Im going to bet money on it
The problem with these license mills/ forgein workers etc is not really a them problem... and not a business hiring them issue either ... its kind of a capitalism / culture issue:
First off we allowed this legally ... and with that some came in and offered to do the work at a cheaper/ more attractive for employers situation. So now employers have an expectation that a truck of goods can get driven from coast to coast or border to border in half the time at half the costv
phoneguyfl@reddit
I don't think anyone is referring to this single accident as OK, but rather that this single accident isn't a great use-case for banning all trucker Visas across the board. Are you under the impression that all trucker visa holders cannot drive and will act like the idiots that caused this crash? And if so, are you under the impression that no domestic drivers would do the same thing?
I suspect that the regime is simply using this single accident to enact sweeping legislation that will absolutely cripple the shipping industry... except for specific wealthy/alite donors who happen to own trucking companies.
