What do you actually do with it? Is it a filling on its own or do you use it with a proper filling, like a sort of mayonnaise?

The BBC as an institution has made massive mistakes in the past and continues to be majorly flawed, but at the end of the day its principles as a publicly-funded broadcaster that supplies a hell of a lot of free material on a variety of useful subjects will always be in demand. Just look at all the learning resources it supplies free of charge for children. Good stuff

Terrible-Amount-6550@reddit

>free material Only if you buy their TV license
View on Reddit #64706161

I mean true, but I support the license fee too. And I seriously doubt every man, woman, and child using BBC resources comes from a household who pays the tv license.
View on Reddit #64706319

Ben-D-Beast@reddit

By the same logic we should do away with democracy, the NHS, military etc. Large institutions will always have flaws that doesn’t negate their usefulness. There is a reason the BBC is one of the biggest targets of hostile propaganda and it’s because it’s an irreplaceable asset to the countries soft power.

View on Reddit #64703892

MoneyAd5007@reddit

The BBC will be one of those things that will be missed when its gone. There are so many types of output it does better than Netflix, who are the corporation that will eventually sink it. The news will be covered by podcasts and their inherent bias. Live sport will all be wrapped in substantial subscription fees scattered among several package providers. You can argue that the BBC doesnt have many sports left, but Im dreading the World Cup in the 2030s and beyond, and I havent seen decent Olympics coverage since 2012. Their documentaries and radio are world leading. Even their drama is the breeding ground for top writers and actors. They have specialised in the mini-series, which will now go to Netflix where there will be 2-4 times as many episodes combined with the resultant drop off in quality. British comedy will have one less outlet - British comedians are already migrating to subscription services. No more BBC sitcoms, no more BBC panel shows. The BBC has long been a bastion against capitalist driven entities producing mediocre creativity. Its a surprise its lasted this long, TBH. Itll be a sad day for Britain.

View on Reddit #64704191

ishamm@reddit

Because it pays for infrastructure, and is shared among many companies - not just the BBC. It's misinformation spread happily that ALL the license fee goes to the Beeb, which has never been true. "Part of the fee also contributes towards Freeview and Freesat, and towards the UK broadband rollout, funding local TV channels and S4C, the Welsh language TV channel, as agreed with the government as part of the 2010 licence fee settlement."

djwillis1121@reddit

View on Reddit #64704817

I’m not bothered, I don’t watch the BBC or even listen to their radio, I can’t see how they can enforce it either. It’s the usual threatening letter stating all the things I need the licence for
View on Reddit #64704969

CSquared_RL@reddit

Any live TV or iplayer Live TV is a grey area these days and I believe it counts anything that's broadcast onto TV regardless of how you watch it, watching a random streamer is fine but watching the champions league final on youtube technically needs a tv licence

Proper binmen St George's flag Straight people ... Or so Facebook has said
View on Reddit #64703818

Aileeneurydice@reddit

Saying "proper binmen" sounds like toxic masculinity to me. So you're saying because binmen now aren't proper binmen, because they no longer have to carry the bins on their backs? Have you seen what carrying those bins on their backs have done to those men? They are so stooped and hunched over that they can't stand up straight, maybe in constant pain and had to quit working earlier than planned. But, oh no, you must think that carrying heavy bins on your back is a flex, due to your insecurity. I mean, fuck peoples health, right? Binmen work really hard, and there are so much more housing these past few decades that their job is harder, as there are so much more bins to empty. It's a job I can't do, and I bet you can't do, or probably won't do. (I'm really sorry for the rant, as it gets my hackles up when people say "Proper", as another way of saying "In my day...", as if everything was so much better then.)

View on Reddit #64705833

Maya-K@reddit

The mention of binmen reminds me of something I suspect genuinely will vanish in the next few decades: *dustmen*. As in, the few remaining names for them other than "bimmen" will become relegated to the dustbin of history. Pun absolutely intended. I'm 32 and I know them as dustmen who drive a dustcart, but I'm the youngest person I know who calls them anything other than binmen who drive a bin lorry. Alternative terms for things in general are gradually disappearing. It's inevitable, but it's a shame.

View on Reddit #64705668

D0wnInAlbion@reddit

Private pension have nothing to do with the state pension. A private pension is just you purchasing assets. When you are ready to retire, you can decide what to do with those assets. The government are essentially giving you a tax break to invest. There is nothing for the state to take away. If you think that a state pension won't be provided, it's even more essential to invest into a private pension.

Packaginig is shrinking, not food. That's fine, as well. Kids can't be trusted to not eat 1kg of chocolate.

Pubs, quite possibly. I reckon a pint will be about 10 or 11 quid in 20 years. Might not see the complete disappearance of pubs but I reckon 60-70% will be gone.

Not completely, but I see almost all Subways going and most fish and chip shops, where fish and chips will only be served at expensive restaurants.
