omg!! perfect car i love it check it if it will be better with this rims https://pin.it/2Rt8mywjt
Careful_Viper@reddit
Looks good. They should ditch that 'two golf bags in the trunk' requirement and build a shorter car. It would have awesome proportions.
SnikySquirrel@reddit
That would probably be a deal breaker to a lot of the buyers though
cookingboy@reddit
And the deal maker for a lot of new buyers
Effective_Job_2555@reddit
Yes im sure the 5 people that passed on a C8 for being too practical for the majority of buyers that buy it because its "the supercar with storage"
TunakTun633@reddit
Alienating your core consumer base is why the EV Charger sells so well!
Recoil42@reddit
Meanwhile: The Urus is literally Lamborghini's best-selling model.
michaelalex3@reddit
That’s not the same thing at all? The Urus didn’t replace anything in their lineup.
cookingboy@reddit
The EV charger is a failure because it lost both its old customer base and failed to pick up new ones due to it being an objectively shitty product.
caterham09@reddit
I cannot imagine the number of people who passed on the C8 because of the trunk proportions is actually a significant number at all.
Immediate-Prompt-299@reddit
i would pass if there wasn’t enough room. my ideal c8 is a grand tourer i can take on the pch from san diego to seattle.
i did not end up buying this generation due to lack of adaptive cruise control. the eray is an instant buy for me if they give me gm supercruise.
NarcoticCow@reddit
Stuff like trunk size is what makes these cars daily-able
nvm206@reddit
Doesn’t seem to be an issue for Porsche McLaren etc buyers. Which is who GM is trying to attract with a mid engine vette.
PossibleMechanic89@reddit
We’re not even in the ballpark price wise. Corvette is attainable to an order of magnitude more people than McLaren and Porsche. Part of what makes it attainable to some is that they can daily it.
Now with that said, I’m not sure the trunk would be a dealbreaker for too many of them.
lyriqally@reddit
I’m in the market of which you speak.
But that said, people really upsold the C8’s trunk space. In reality it’s hot garbage either way, so in a way I kinda wish they disregarded that metric so nobody would pretend it had more space than it really did.
nucleartime@reddit
RIP $60k base Cayman.
helpdiene@reddit
Personally, I think as long as it can fit 2 carry on size luggage worth of stuff, it's good enough, even if it has to be done with custom fitted luggage.
nucleartime@reddit
The only Porsche that has compromised trunk space is like the GT3 (frunk delete for cooling and double wishbone), and even then you have what used to be the rear seats, definitely enough for two golf bags.
blue_bomber697@reddit
The worst aspect by a long shot when I went from a C7 to a C8Z was the significantly smaller trunk space. The previous gen’s really spoiled us with trunk space, it was awesome. I wasn’t a deal breaker, but it definitely was missed.
Scurro@reddit
It would be for me.
The c7 is a great daily. It's my only car but I live in a city.
I can fit so much in the trunk/hatch of the c7 I often get compliments.
I never perused a c8 primarily because it doesn't have a stick.
GVIrish@reddit
I dunno, how much lighter would the car be if they did away with that requirement. Could make it compelling for some people.
But I have to think that number isn't as big as the number of people who want to fit 2 golf bags.
JALbert@reddit
The immense weight of a larger hole
Porencephaly@reddit
If you want the trunk two feet bigger, you have to make the car two feet longer.
lowstrife@reddit
One of the best features (of what I find to be a otherwise kinda boring car to drive on the street) is that you can put the t-tops into the trunk. So, it's not just the ability to fit golf bags.
_galaga_@reddit
I would bet fitting the top in the truck was the primary requirement driving trunk size and the golf bag thing is overblown. The top barely fits in the trunk and packaging a space for it is obviously a lot harder with the mid-engine layout compared to prior gens.
Ironically, if the C8 actually had T-tops instead of a fully removable roof panel the trunk could be smaller.
Nickiskindacool@reddit
That's been part of the corvettes identity for years. They're not going to ditch practicality when they've been able to sell it as the practical sports car for most of its life
Gundamnitpete@reddit
Yeah and lots of corvette owners golf lol
Dr_Disaster@reddit
Exactly. The great thing about Corvettes is the fact they’re a sports car you can daily without many sacrifices and work on/repair with relative ease too. Reducing storage hurts its identity and appeal.
magnament@reddit
Lol, the current mid engine auto zone special is far from a corvette as it could be - who cares what direction it goes next
Nickiskindacool@reddit
Hot take for sure. Very capable car to call the auto zone special, especially for the price. You can't expect a German interior on a GM at any price point. You're paying for the engineering side of the house and that's how GM performance has always been
I'm curious to see what the next generation will bring. I'll probably never be a new Corvette buyer, so it's irrelevant to my life. Still cool to see
glizzytwister@reddit
That's actually a major selling point. The majority of the people who buy Corvettes are older and use them daily, so they need the space. Reddit isn't representative of reality, especially r/cars.
StraY_WolF@reddit
I think people here forget that corvettes sold REALLY well for a performance car. They got their formula down, which is one of them is having golf bag requirement.
bullet50000@reddit
As someone who owned one until a few months ago, having a proper trunk is 100% encouraging me to look into buying another when the C9 comes out
PossibleMechanic89@reddit
Corvette and Corvette XL like the Yukon.
GM, I am available for consulting work.
Ihate_reddit_app@reddit
The trunk space is awesome and makes my car way more usable. I'll take the little bit of a sacrifice of looks for more usability. So many of its competitors have useless storage. I can throw a couple bags in it and go wherever I want for the weekend.
GlobalAlbatross2124@reddit
Not the trunk proportions specifically but you gotta admit it throws the whole car off.
StockAL3Xj@reddit
If a lot you mean a handful of people on the internet who swear they'd buy it in that case, sure. Otherwise, I don't think so.
OvONettspend@reddit
most corvette buyers (old people and their stingrays) absolutely do NOT care about the weird length in the back and absolutely do care about trunk space. All they care about is a badge that says corvette and a trunk for their bags
bullet50000@reddit
For the amount of people who buy it as the Daily-able sports car, thats a bigger market than people who nitpick like that.
Funkytadualexhaust@reddit
I dont believe it, i never see them at golf courses. Maybe a special roof rack option
narwhal_breeder@reddit
I just put mine in the passenger seat of my 4C - wasnt a big deal.
Angry_Guppy@reddit
Corvette owners have friends
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Ha. Funny.
SelfServeSporstwash@reddit
I don’t golf but there are a good number of golf courses near me. Lots of corvettes in those parking lots
HobokenWaterMain@reddit
I belong to a smaller club and see a consistent 4-5 in the parking lot every time I go.
Plastic_Willow734@reddit
When I worked at a SoCal golf course I swear like 25% of the cars parked were C8s
SteveS117@reddit
Are THAT many people really putting 2 golf bags in their 2 seater? Almost every time I’ve golfed, my friends and I drive separate.
Recoil42@reddit
It doesn't even need to be shorter, just... tauter.
The huge badonk is easily the worst part of the C8 design.
sioux612@reddit
Didn't it used to be 3 bags? That was a bit excessive, cause thats more bags than people can fit
Also the special thing isn't that they can fit two golf bags length wise, its width wise, and that really doesn't impact the vehicle length THAT much
This_Elk_1460@reddit
I mean you're talking about a car that's primarily bought by people over the age of 65 so doubt they'll do that
4r4r4real@reddit
C8 brought the average age of buyers down something like 9 years. I don't believe that's true.
icecream_specialist@reddit
Hey I woulda bought one at 25, just didn't have the income, gonna look at C7s when I'm 40. But yea they gotta build a car not for who wants one but who actually can/will buy a new one
PlanetNoob@reddit
were golf bags really used as the design requirement? I thought it was to fit the targa top?
dragonitexy@reddit
I do wonder if having a Corvette "classic" and a separate mid-engine model for the Z-cars is a feasible strategy or not
JBoy9028@reddit
The Podcast "Never Stop Driving" (it's done by Hagerty employees), has a 2.5hr interview with Tadge Juechter about his Corvette career. At the 1:57:20 mark he does go into the thought process of that proposal.
To sum it up, their main reasoning is the classic model would just be dated in all metrics compared to the new one and the limited sales wouldn't support the production.
natesully33@reddit
I had a similar thought, having owned a C7 I'd rather have a C5-7 as a track car - easier to work on, manual, lots of storage for getting stuff to the track above the transaxle. The C8 might resonate with other potential buyers and make sense business wise, but it's moved away from what I would want in another sports car.
I think multiple Corvette platforms might be a nonstarter from a business perspective though, multiple niche vehicles, ouch.
Finessence@reddit
Camaro was canceled so I wouldn’t anticipate it’s feasible.
Threedawg@reddit
They already made the Fiero though
RodRAEG@reddit
They also need to stop increasing the dimensions every time. A C5 Corvette has a wheelbase of 104.5in. The C8's is 107.2in. the C4 has the shortest wheelbase of any gen at 96.2in, which is a out the same as a Porsche 992. Imagine going back to that size with modern weight savings/tech.
TGUKF@reddit
This. People can fit golf bags behind the seats in the Audi R8. There's no reason why they can't figure out a similar solution in the Corvette. Even if the car were the same length, I think the extra room would be easier to hide in the middle of the car instead of hanging out behind the rear axle.
Ayatori@reddit
That's like asking Subaru to ban sales to nicotine addicts
NFPAExaminer@reddit
That is a deal breaker.
sssanguine@reddit
You mean you wished they just threw a two stroke back there and called it a day?
EpitaphConfusion@reddit
From someone who thinks the c8 is overstyled I think this looks amazing
mr_lab_rat@reddit
I’m pretty sure everyone agree C8 is overstyled.
idontremembermyoldus@reddit
I think it's just the opposite; it looks very generic to me.
BrunoEye@reddit
It's both. It looks like a children's toy or one of those unlicensed super cars from a video game.
It's like someone took a feature from every super car and glued them together.
There's way too much going on, yet none of it has any identity.
probablyhrenrai@reddit
GTA supercar, in the same way that the first Genesis cars were GTA luxury.
-etuskoe-@reddit
C8 stingray is very very close to being a truly great looking car, but it's just too much. I want to see what a simplified version could look like.
Navetoor@reddit
Z06 is c8 perfection
probablyhrenrai@reddit
It is, but I still want a smoother, simpler version, for the same reason I prefer the first-gen R8 to the 2nd-gen. Something like this concept would be so much more "my speed" styling-wise.
Senappi@reddit
Anyone who has Gran Turismo 7 installed and has internet connection will get this downloaded automatically so no need to do anything.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
An elegant, modern Corvette would break my brain in a very good way.
After selling my 4C I took a very long look at the C8 with a week long turo rental, and at the end of the day, I couldn't justify spending that kind of money on something I just didn't really enjoy looking at. If it keeps the V8 on base models - I'd probably just skip the Turo outright, put on my New Balances, and sprint to the dealer to try and fight the other Dads to get a slot.
theflintseeker@reddit
My coworker got a 2 year preowned GTS and it’s gone up in value every year- absolutely crazy
meodd8@reddit
I made money on my 911 and it looks like my gts 4.0 is holding steady at the moment.
I don’t treat these cars as investments, but I did consider depreciation when I bought them.
theflintseeker@reddit
I mean it makes sense. It’s the same reason why I will only lease an EV and never pay MSRP.
moldy912@reddit
What a strange car to settle on considering your other choices.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Plan was to keep the GR86 around as a dedicated track car after a couple years of GTS 4.0 depreciation - but that isn't happening. Really want to test drive a 3rd gen Viper.
-CampinCarl-@reddit
FWIW, you can get 98% of a GTS 4.0 by just buying a 981 Cayman GTS or S, and arguably they sound better.
eZreazy@reddit
I was about to say, the 981 is the pick here. The value is holding so strong though I’ve been keeping an eye on it
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Already owned one :) only reason I wouldn’t do that
Mansa_Mu@reddit
I’m not even planning on buying a house, saving it all on the c9
lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
😂
AccidentalChef@reddit
Wise choice. You can live in a car, but you can't drive a house.
The_Bucket_Of_Truth@reddit
I don't think you're getting a GTS 4.0 for much less than like 80k for a while
Aero06@reddit
Hurts my heart because the Corvette is a perfect platform on paper, and the C2 and C3 Corvettes are some of the most beautiful cars to come out of Detroit, but Chevy seems to miss the mark, and the past few Corvettes just don't look nearly as good as they perform.
carsonwade@reddit
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the looks of the C6.
RobinsShaman@reddit
How many scoops should we add to make the c8 pretty?
narwhal_breeder@reddit
"fucking all of them" - GM, 2019
Cakedonut1@reddit
When does the retractable wings option happen ?
accountforrealppl@reddit
I've been saying they need to make a Cadillac corvette. Slightly softer suspension but adaptive so can still feel like a true sports car, smoother lines on the exterior (so it looks like a copycat ferrari and not a copycat lambo), and some nicer materials on the interior and boom.
There's a lot of corvette buyers that have money for a lot more car but it's hard to justify with the vette there. Make it luxury and charge an extra $30k and they'd be printing money, get more from the platform, and help the cadillac brand.
Call it either the cadillac V or the cadillac blackwing, it would have a ton of presence
Jamaican_Dynamite@reddit
Updated Cien concept, basically. They've finally built an engine for it.
popsicle_of_meat@reddit
The Cien was a fully-functional prototype car. It was more than a concept. It had active aero, and a one-off V12 Northstar engine that ran and made 750hp. In a way, that DOHC V12 Northstar is more of an exotic engine than any of the engines for the C8.
However, I agree with your sentiment. The Cien was VERY cool when it came out. But they might need to rename it if they did it again (Cien is Spanish for 100, and the car was made for Caddy's 100th anniversary).
Barack_Odrama_007@reddit
They could call it Cien-iq
Boom done!
Jamaican_Dynamite@reddit
I agree. The concept was extremely special. But the C8, at least so far, is the closest we've gotten to it being in production.
As for the name? Vienticinco? We're coming close to their 125th. I figure strike while it's hot.
djp2313@reddit
As long as they don't call it an xlr again.
Snywalker@reddit
Monkey paw curls: Great, we won't call it an XLR! Everybody meet the new Cadillac Catera!

lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
Copycat Ferrari? That doesn’t sound good lol
SireEvalish@reddit
Spoiler: It won't. Expect it to look like an evolved version of the C8.
doctorcapslock@reddit
reminds me a little bit of mazda furai
MEMESTER80@reddit
It's cool but, tell me where is the corvette in this?
Atom-Dash@reddit
The C3 style wheel arches look nice on it, like a literal stingray wing. This is about as much of a style switch as was between C2-C3-C4 which only seems unusual since C5-C6-C7 were mostly one shape.
Fordfanatic2025@reddit
I thought this was more of a c10 concept at best. I'd love it if this was basically the c9 with slightly more realistic proportions.
lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
The articles states that that’s what the original intentions were since it’s still called CX but it seems like GM decided to bring this design language onto the C9 rather than wait.
Fordfanatic2025@reddit
Bro if this is the c9, or close to the c9, holy shit. Like if they were able to take this design, give it normal doors, a V8, and say "There's the c9" that's gonna be insane. But I don't believe we'll be that lucky. At best, I think c9 will have like a quarter panel that vaguely looks like this concept. I hope I'm wrong.
lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
I heard someone saying that GM goal was to create a supercar and make it affordable for the average person and this is exactly what they did with the C8 so we can think of C9 as hypercar for the average joe, insane!
cteno4@reddit
If the entire front comes off in the production version like in the concept, then I don’t care how much it costs; I will sell my house for that thing.
lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
😂😂
GaviFromThePod@reddit
After the C9 comes... a truck
olov244@reddit
they need the camaro(reasonable sports car) so bad. the vette is getting so far out of range
OtterCreek_Andrew@reddit
C8 is by far the ugliest corvette ever made and in my opinion in the running for one of the ugliest cars ever made. They definitely need to do something. The concept looks nice, not as many sharp edges and try hard edgy bs.
SnowyBrowser24@reddit
Really really hoping the corvette stays at least somewhat obtainable to the middle income.
The world has enough supercars, we don’t need another 300,000$ “track monster”. Part of the reason shit like the ZR1 is so compelling is because it starts at under 200k.
lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
How much do you think the C9 will start at?
DanielG165@reddit
Corvette is firmly in its, “Zora’s vision” phase now, with the C8 being the trailblazer. Mid engine craziness.
mihirmusprime@reddit
That reminds me of the stingray concept, but then whatever they released looked nothing like it.
_galaga_@reddit
Maybe I'm high but I see a lot of C7 cues in that concept but at a reduced scale.
lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
I see some C7 design language in that as well especially the front
Snuffl3s7@reddit
The rear shoulder line too.
quasmoke1@reddit
What do you mean? C7 basically looks like this.
elswede@reddit
Interesting how the front has similar design language to the fifth Gen Camaro
lifesaplay@reddit (OP)
When do you guys think C9 will debut? My prediction is unveiled in 2028 and official release in 2029.
scruffmucker@reddit
This is stunning.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
It would be fun if that KTM X-Bow open door feature would come with C9.
So, what about Camaro ?
Would be interesting to see it, but I doubt these features able to keep Vette affordable.
sssanguine@reddit
Damn that’s looks really nice, I especially like how that tension line sits
