Why is the Ford F150 8 foot bed only offered in the lowest trim (XL) option?

Okay I think I have a reasonable answer to you for this. On paper I’m with you, it makes sense that the cab is the cab and should be easily equipped no matter what right? Just slap in my order on the line. My buddy works for one of the big 3 sourcing parts for largest of the fleet trucks. The next step up from f350 or 3500, etc. and those are extremely limited in what you can do to customize them from the factory. Bc it’s only a work truck. And most of the super custom stuff is done aftermarket. They work MONTHS in advance just to procure the parts for the cab for just several thousand vehicles. Bc the products they used to have on hand just don’t exist anymore. Places that use to make X product for 10-20 years just don’t exist anymore, so they have to scramble to find someone else that can fulfill those tiny little things. And it will get delivered and absolutely not fit bc they didn’t make it to spec. So the whole project stops. That’s just for the most basic, most simple cab you can think of. Now take that to what you’re saying. They’re cranking out the normal trucks that’s selling to the most people as fast as they can with as few hiccups as possible to overcome stoppages or delays bc the supply chain is broken. Making weird niche changes absolutely slows things down and isn’t worth the time or money. Covid fucked the, order a vehicle the way I want it customized…unless you have way too much money and time to spend. Now back to the nice interiors. Those are alotted to the trucks they know they’re selling immediately and planned to ahead of time. They’re not sitting on extras. They can’t even keep enough workers on to get them installed correctly. They’re not going to do it bc it costs them money.
