Same in Rocket league. All the casual gaming is now just full of generically named "players" who play at a fairly high level and have 10000+ games. Very quickly gives away that you're not playing other Humans.
Are you talking about sideswipe? Cuz in regular rl, you’re less likely to see bots in casual. Only in high level games where people are attempting to cheat
It's something that's become apparent over the last 6 months or so. I'd wager that there was a meeting and it was decided that to keep people playing RL, games need to be found for players within a minute. Mine is ALWAYS "37 seconds" now. It used to be anywhere from 10 seconds to 4 minutes.
I think the solution to enable this was just to fill the gaps with better, hidden bots so that games began much quicker. Sometimes they don't work properly. I had a game, late at night last week, where the other team was clearly 3 bots and they all just sat in the goal, doing barely anything the whole game. Someone obviously hadn't programmed them correctly. Nice 9-0 win I guess.
It’s the mobile version of rl, where bots from psyonix are used to fill lower level lobbies to fix the issue you describe.
In regular RL there isn’t many bots. Only really in high ranked lobbies by cheaters. Sounds like the people you were against are prolly just afk or don’t care since it’s casual
I think they've just imported it from the Mobile game then, or are at least testing it. I find the easiest way to spot them is with the RTN Rocket League Tracker.
I get what you're saying though - Rocket League is a strange place full of lots of strange peole doing strange things.
Let me clarify what I meant for everyone responding:
Cheaters are another huge problem, but it USED TA BE that you just eventually spot the single user and votekick 'em. But actual humans using aimbots is an entirely less invasive cancer than just "AI" run players that spam servers and just hopefully don't cheat TOO MUCH
Dude the bots literally advertised a website where you could host them on your pc while they played do you rlly think it was just like 1 specific group
You’d be surprised what kind of vendettas that group can form. They get slighted by someone in the community or “disavow” the community and then just absolutely crash out on it
They took over the Bionicle subreddit a few years ago and made it the sub bio. I asked a mod if they could add some stuff to the sub description to actually make it clear what the subreddit is about and I got perma banned for it
If you let them into any community (online specifically) they will take it over given time. As an example valve has a pretty cool hero shooter out in alpha called DEADLOCK and the game is borderline unplayable because hyper-competitive transgenders took it over and essentially have held the games development hostage, to the point the devs have had to make another secret branch of the alpha hidden from them.
It’s funny you assume discord because I’ve seen it there too lol. It’s just general behaviour, a lot of transgenders are just autistic groomed men so it’s not a coincidence when they put their mind to something (getting back at a community the think slighted them) they’re really good at it, EX: TF2 bots.
Yep. Well documented issue with cheaters as Valve didn't update the security on the game. Now they've released the source code and a community managed version is available.
no it doesn't retard, steamdb does not take into account the bot accounts for trading etc, the actual players are hovering at around 10k
"https://teamwork.tf/community/statistics"
As if bots were the only issue, closet cheaters are still rampant and even the blatant cheaters don't get kicked. The tf2 community deserves all the cheaters they get for being so stupid.
You're better off not playing the game or only playing skial/uncletopia/zesty's servers
I recently started playing again after about a decade and I haven’t come across any that I’m aware of. The games are fair and found quickly so the games definitely not dead.
Nor are community servers there is just a metric fuck ton of empty ones so you have to sort the servers by player count. Its just that most of those servers are either filled with the sweatiest people know to mann or only plays one map on repeat.
I stopped mainly because the matchmaking system sucks. it was easy to see teams with 5 more players steamroll the entire match, and having to wait a few minutes to hop in a server and 2 more minutes for the game to even start was just bleh. Even when you get the perfect match, you can't even extend like before, so you have to repeat the cycle of queue + 2 mins prep time + pray for balanced team all over again. Also gl playing game modes like Doomsday.
Not sure if they fixed that nowadays, but how hard is it to bring quickplay being in the menu?
fuck matchmaking. join a community server. my favourite is the Shounic Trenches 100 player server. ive been playing since 2011 and spent 99% of my time in community servers and ive always had fun
I always loved community servers for the absolute zanyfests that they were, I spent way too many hours on TF2ware than I'd like to admit kek, but perhaps I should come back for the vanilla maps, if those even exist.
Say, how likely are you able to find a vanilla match of a popular-ish map like Turbine? Or even worse, Doomsday?
depends on whether you count 100 player as vanilla or not. i see turbine regularly on the trenches, doomsday is rare but ive still seen it. you can nominate maps on the trenches, so if you really wanna play a map if you stick around and keep nominating it increases the chances. unfortunately for the past 2 years ive spent 99% of my tf2 time playing in the trenches and barely have any idea of whats going on with regular community servers anymore but i see a lot of them in the server browser.
The game hasn't really been fun since the early 2010s. People will blame the bots, but I blame all the annoying to play against gimmick weapons, instakill spam mechanics and the fact that half the playerbase are friendlies treating the game like IMVU.
Because it's a game with a large aging fanbase that's nostalgic for it but doesn't have the time to play it. The fact it's free-to-play also means the barrier to entry for making content of it is nonexistent.
Same reason every lazy gaming YouTuber played nothing but Gmod games from 2014 to 2018.
Watching a thing is easier than playing it. Plus, people are lazy, and dont want to have to learn maps, characters, and tricks. Which is fair because you dont have a lot of fun in tf2 these days unless you've played it for a while.
10,000,000x the number of people who ever played concord watched videos about it.
TF2's perceived popularity was always far bigger than the actual player count, especially when you compare it to Valve's other multiplayer heavy hitters like Dota 2 and Counter Strike, TF2 was always far, far behind in player count. TF2 was always Valve's testing grounds for Steam features, however it's now outlived that purpose and no one at Valve cares enough to work on it, so no significant updates leads to lack of player interest. Valve likely knowingly benefitted from the idle bots boosting the player count, had the shrinking player count been widely known about many people would have likely panic sold their inventories and sent the item economy into a negative spiral, which could have impacted the other item economy games, so they do everything to ignore the fact the game has been bleeding real players for a decade now and nothing short of a massive investment that they'd not see a return on will stop it, so basically lying about the amount of players is the easier option.
If you want to play a version of TF2 with an active playerbase, gets regular updates, and is about the gameplay and not spending thousands of dollars to play dress up with gaudy particle effects, then play TF2 Classic.
Casual is fucking miserable to play, sometimes you take 3 minutes to find a match thats either already over or empty and when you finally find a match thats starting, one of the teams rolls the first round and everyone quits, i legit cant remember the last time i had a streak of good matches, lately i try for 30 minutes get annoyed and move to the next game
Valve reworked quickplay into "casual mode" when they thought TF2 needed to be forced into an esport, making the experience of hopping into a server take longer, last shorter, and feel much less balanced. And also made community servers nearly dead
Oh I know, same with a few dedicated hosters like Skial and Uncletopia, but quickplay used to incorporate community servers into matchmaking and fill less popular servers too which was nice. Niche maps used to actually have people playing too, now that seems a lot more rare
Free animation software with tf2 maps and characters already available cranks up the social media presence without making the game itself any more desirable.

It’s nearly in the top 10 (#12) shooters on steamdb, only 3 places behind Marvel Rivals. OP just doesn’t understand matchmatching vs lobbies and can’t wait 2 minutes for his lobbies to fill up.
