Can you buy co codamol (codeine and paracetamol) otc in Budapest?

I'm visiting Budapest next week and have never been on a plane, so didn't consider I might have issues getting through with certain medications. In the UK we can buy co codamol over the counter, so I don't have a prescription and don't have time to get one. Would it be possible to buy when I get there to avoid any issues?

Codeine is a regulated drug here (it's a fucking opiate ffs), definitely no OTC availability.
You're probably addicted at this point and should seek medical assistance.

That’s pure codeine. Codeine phosphate is a very restricted drug across the west. These are codeine paracetamol mixed. They are used for intense pain where paracetamol won’t work by itself. While it contains an opioid, it is generally in low dosage. For long term pain relief it is safer than ibuprofen.
Of course it’s only available under prescription with the exception of Denmark, France and a handful of other EU countries that allow it over the counter.
You don’t have to be so preachy and judgemental.

If you're able to come to Hungary for a holiday, you 1000% don't need any codein derivative. If you need it badly, you definitely are not in the condition to travel internationally for leisure.
I am not making any judgements here, just stating that ALL opiates should be banned outside hospice care and hospitals.

I get migraines associated with my menstrual cycle and they're the only thing that helps. It's highly likely I won't get one while I'm there, I just don't want to waste my holiday lying in a dark room if one happens to hit. I literally haven't taken one in 2 months so, no, I'm not addicted.

And since when would that be normal? There's clearly some underlying gynaecological issue at hand that needs to be investigated and treated, instead of hopping you on opiates for life.

If only women's healthcare worked that way lmao
Lumpy_Cranberry_9210@reddit
It does if you decide they cannot bullshit you. It's worth switching doctors until finding someone competent, only to realize you have PCOS, endo, or whatever combo of issues someone might have.
Normal human health does not involve taking opiates on a regular basis to manage the pain of :existing:. The pain is there to warn of something deeply fucked up.
po114@reddit
Oh yes, because anyone with some permanent injury/chronic pain condition should just sit at home untill they die
Lumpy_Cranberry_9210@reddit
there's a lot of non-addictive options available
po114@reddit
But is there really any difference between taking painkillers all your life because you are addicited vs taking them all your life because you have constant strong pain? Other than moral?
Lumpy_Cranberry_9210@reddit
you clearly don't understand how addiction or opiates work

Get off your moral high horse. This isn’t a church and you aren’t the bloviating preacher.

If you need a prescription here, you can get one online on Mobidoctor.

No, you can't buy it in Budapest, but I wouldn't worry about bringing a small amount in commercial packaging with you. (I know people who have, many times, for person use.) While I can't recommend doing it because it's probably not legal to do so, there's very few checks for such things, and probably the worst that would happen would be that they would confiscate it. As always, check applicable laws for an actual legal opinion, rather than relying on my Reddit "advice".

I'm struggling to find solid confirmation but it seems like it's legal to carry on flights with a prescription. I've managed to get a letter today from my doctor stating that I need it, so hopefully if it comes to it that'll be enough. I'd be carrying maybe 2 or 3 pills at the most.
thejesusgod@reddit
Yeah, with a prescription there should be no problem whatsoever.

I’ve flown out of many airports around Europe and US, and some beyond, but nobody ever looked at my little medication pack that I carry everywhere in my bag. I suppose if you don’t carry around months worth of medication, noone cares. Very low chance to get your bags searched when you land, so you only have to get it through your local airport’s security, so if it’s otc there, it shouldn’t be a problem.
I’m assuming here that you’re not staying for long, just visiting, so just bring the medication you know you will need.

That's good to know, thank you! I'm only staying for 5 nights so hopefully it'll be fine.

These here all contain paracetamol. Vény nélküli means OTC

It was OTC many years ago in syrup form but now everything containing opioids is only if u have a prescription. In Romania you can find it in some places / order it on the internet. If you want opioids just buy some Kratom in Planet Herb or something.
