This is a tram only stop. I remember at this exact stop towards Móricz Zsigmond körtér there is place for 2 trams, meanwhile on the other side towards Rudas/Fővám tér only for 1.

There are even a few "MM+M" stops, where 3 buses can stop and open their doors at the same time. But after the first 2 buses have left, the third one has to open its doors at the beginning of the bus stop again.

Villamosvezetőként írom, hogy a Szent Gellért téri megálló pont egy rossz példája ennek, mert a peron hosszúsága miatt csak bizonyos típusú villamosok állhatnak meg egymás mögött. Két Ganz könnyedén elfér, de egy Ganz + Tatra kombónál már esélyes, hogy az utolsó ajtó a korlátra nyílik. Ezért nem mindig szoktunk másodikként ajtót nyitni.

És amúgy sok ilyen "dupla villamosmegálló" van Budapesten? Gellérten mi indokolta? Pláne hogy csak az egyik irányban dupla. Laikusként arra gondolnék, hogy ne ragadjanak be a megálló előtt a lámpáknál, amikor szinte egyszerre jön 1 a deák, 1 a déli, 1 a batyi felől. Vagy csak hogy szimplán ne kelljen egymásra várniuk? Busznál adja magát, viszont a villamosok hossza miatt ott az utasnak nem annyira praktikus.

Some stations can physically fit 2 buses, but because they are only M the second one standing behind will not open its doors unless it moved to the first position. With MM stations you have to watch out, if your bus is in the back you might not notice it

M = 1 tram/bus/trolley can stop and open doors. MM = 2 trams/busses/trolleys can stop and open doors. MMM = 3 trams/busses/trolleys can stop and open doors.

If you find a red M, that means the tram has to stop even if nobody wants to get on/off. So the stop cannot be skipped.

M - simple stop, for one vehicle

MM - double stop, for two vehicles, although there may be restrictions (e.g. only one articulated and one solo can fit, or only one tram on a tram track, but if a bus comes on the track, two of them can also fit there)

MM+M - triple stop, the first two vehicles stop once, after the third passenger change, in principle, they pull forward to the sign and open the door again

Red M - safety stop in front of dangerous places for trams, all trams stop at these places, even if they are not carrying passengers
