We Asked Pete Hegseth if Women Should Have the Right to Vote. The Answer Was Unsettling.

So what was the answer that was so "unsettling"?
Pale_Shape_4258@reddit (OP)
We asked directly, and in the final line of a very brief email: “Does Secretary Hegseth believe women should have the right to vote?” This was the department’s response, in full, sent four and a half hours later:
Hello. Thanks for your note. Here is our statement: “The Secretary is a proud member of a church affiliated with the Congregation of Reformed Evangelical Churches, which was founded by Pastor Doug Wilson. The Secretary very much appreciates many of Mr. Wilson’s writings and teachings.” —Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell The statement, notably, did not say that Hegseth believes women should have the right to vote.

Then don’t ask these stupid fucking questions
Booth_Templeton@reddit
Sounds like just a canned response. Has nothing to do with your question, probably wasn't even read, either that or the question is so stupid, they didn't want to signify it with a response.

Christ you are thick as molasses lol

>senior government official reposts content wanting to deny basic voting rights to US citizens based on sex
>citizens ask government official about position on voting rights
>citizens told how much he loves the pastor and church that don't want women to vote
I think we need to up the font size on the Gadsden flag for a few folks out there

Christian men need to call out this crap theology for what it is.

I consider myself libertarian, but I fully support repealing the 19th Amendment. Women are socialist minded creatures, they are the biggest supporters of the welfare state. It's not right to make men as a collective pay for single mothers and their bastard children.
pagantek@reddit
I'd take it one step further, the only people that should vote are people that have a vested interest in the country. Property owners and people that have served in the military, should be the voters.
Mead_and_You@reddit
Having served in the army... Service should absolutely NOT be a qualification for voting. I've never met a higher concentration of retards in my entire life than when I was in the army, and I've coached Special Olympics.
If anything, I think it should be a disqualification.
There is only two reasons people enlist in the military. They are poor and needed a way out or they are stupid and the propaganda worked on them. (or in my case, both) I don't think either of those people have demonstrated capabilities needed to decide how other people's lives should be run.
Free_Smoke_7636@reddit
That’s some very black and white thinking when the reality is much more complicated than that.
Instead of making broad (and authoritarian) statements about who should and should not be allowed to vote, why not instead educate people better instead?
I’ve served in the military too and have met some incredibly dumb AND incredibly well educated (or even just smart) people. I’ve also been able to work with the Navy, Coast Guard, Marines and Army (just missed the Air Force) and it’s the same story in each of those branches as well.
I feel the problem is more about where people get their information and the “why” they vote. Simply educating people on how to read news and information will allow them to more accurately tell when they’re being fed lies or propaganda.
That’s not an inherently military community issue, that’s an everyone/everywhere issue. My point is simply I’ve seen just as many dumb people in the military as outside. I don’t think it’s as drastically different as you say.

The police as well. Same principle.

Ya these people above are insane. Liberty for me none for other people based on cards delt at birth
HotFoxedbuns@reddit
Well, there’s an argument that having too many people vote reduces your liberty, as we’re observing today.

Yep
Sounds like these folks are those authoritarian libertarians who give us a bad reputation…

Or maybe we shrink the size of government to the point where it barely matters who votes or not?
Sure, in an effort to curry favor with female voters, politicians could campaign on increasing the size of government.
But, with young men increasingly coming to the realization that a noticeable percentage of women will vote to replace husbands with government checks, the idea of a politician bending over backwards for women is becoming less likely with each passing election.
pagantek@reddit
This is the take. I see some are equating voting with Liberty. We shouldn't have any monolithic overhead at the federal level, that should be exterior border defence and interstate commerce, but should have 0 impact on the day to day of the citizens. The state level, a little more so, the county level, a little more so, the city level, a little more so, but none of it should impact our given liberties, and as long as ones actions don't negatively impact others, then why am I being governed so heavily. So yes. Property owners and military veterans vote for national stances, local states/counties/cities take care of themselves as far as how they want to receive inputs from their constituents. California drug addicts should not have any say or voice over farmers in virgina on their land use. Inner city New Yorkers shouldn't have much to say over Watertown NY.

What if you can't own property or serve in the military?

No you aren't. You are an authoritarian.

Then, repeal the welfare state and leave women who walk the walk of feminism (as white collar workers and real-life Rosie the Reviters) alone.
There’s no need to tell men or women what to do with their life.
voidscaped@reddit
First, why should male "socialist minded creatures" get to vote, but not female "socialist minded creatures"?
Second, what about females who are not "socialist minded"?

He believes in very traditional generals and is aligned with Christian nationalism. I don't think he's a hardliner on abolishing women's suffrage but he definitely leans in that direction a bit: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/what-to-know-about-the-archconservative-church-defense-secretary-pete-hegseth-attends

This stance wasn’t a single comment; it was a major focus of the clip. A fellow pastor at Wilson’s church argued that ideally, people should vote as households, with men casting the vote, “having discussed it with [the] household.” When Brown mentioned that some Christian nationalists wanted to repeal the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, another pastor at the church said, without any pause, that he would support that move.
In his repost of the video, Hegseth left a rather cryptic comment: “All of Christ for All of Life.”
not_today_thank@reddit
I don't think one vote per household is the worst idea in the world (that doesn't mean I support it). But if we went that way I think it should be up to the household who represents the household, the husband and wife or husband and husband or wife and wife should decide for themselves.
If we did go that way, would single people be allowed to vote? Or just those that are married.
