The problem is that some of these guys literally have no interests outside of video games. So if you asked them where they'd want to go in their birthday, they'd just blankly stare at you and ask when they can get back to their computer.
Offensive-Pepe@reddit
Was thinking the first part of what you said when they stated the parents only remember them by that. Like what else is gonna go on the cake, a fishing rod? None of these people are doing anything but games. I remember fondly when I used to get birthday cakes, have everyone over celebrating, and when the cake came out it had my favorite video game or cartoon character on there.
We all grow up and lose interest but it’s good to appreciate these moments while we can
The_Elusive_Dr_Wu@reddit
Most of the cakes look like the guys are in their teens or twenties so maybe there's still time.
Pubesauce@reddit
True. I was like this in my 20s. For a period of time I was a NEET who just played games all day. It's incredibly hard to get out of that hole though because it seems hopeless. Mentally those were really dark days even though at the time I'd have told everyone I was happy. You hate yourself and see no future.
I'm starting to go through this again, only from the other side as a parent. Despite all of my efforts to steer my son into a wide range of interests and hobbies, he only wants to play games and watch YouTube. It's frustrating. I've taken him to all sorts of different theme parks and cool places and he just shows zero interest and wants to get home to get back on a screen. I don't want him to go down the same path I did but I also don't want to be a hypocrite because I didn't figure this shit out until my early 30s.
darkxenith@reddit
As a guy in my 20s who only wants to play games and watch YouTube. What's the problem with it? I don't feel hopeless or hate myself. I'll admit I don't know what I want to do in the future, but I don't think that's because of video games. I just like being at home. Going out to cool places is fine, but I'd much rather be at home.
WillyWangDoodle@reddit
Eventually you will be in your 30s, and then your 40s. What's your plan? Just keep it in mind. Time sneaks up on a lot of people.
DotEnvironmental1990@reddit
On one hand your position makes sense and is reasonable, but chieftains of the big nasal tribe wants everyone to have the mindset you have and that alone makes me want to do opposite.
girlgamerpoi@reddit
I have done that too. It's like mental McDonald's. You just have to have your share. Or you just have no interest of it.
donnydodo@reddit
Yeah video games, social media and those garbage videos on youtube are poison. We are activity heavy with our kids and its exhausting. My boy does tennis, soccer, jiu jitsu, athletics. Its exausting as fuck. But at home all I get is this asked t.v, t.v, t.v. Honestly if I was a lazy parent my kids would just watch screens all day.
Some parents do this. Screens are cheap and it gets the kids out of your hair. But your kids will not grow up into well put together adults. You will fail as a parent.
The_Elusive_Dr_Wu@reddit
I broke the cycle at 24. You did later in your life. Your son will too.
IrregularrAF@reddit
idk just started it in my 30's, it's a pretty damn good life 😂
axelkoffel@reddit
I just wanted to add that it's never too late. You might be 40 and think your life is over and it's too late to change. And when you're 50, you will regret that you were thinking that way, when you were so young a decade ago.
You're not too old, right now you're as youngest as you'll every be.
Notmydirtyalt@reddit
People online talk a lot about young men and the dopamine hit of Porn addiction, but that those same men can become completely isolated and depressed due to video games while mentioned has not been drilled into enough in the Self improvement community IMO.
Atsusaki@reddit
In the moment it might be cringe but once you start spending birthdays actually with nobody then it won't seem so bad. Anon is cringe and sheltered.
Gamer_chaddster_69@reddit
You're cringe and sheltered underestimating how much many people hate being celebrated like that, on most my birthdays when I was young I used to try hiding away in the toilet until it was over, rarely succeeding. Now when i'm older I love not having to celebrate.
skeptical-speculator@reddit
No one called it cringe.
IShatMyDickOnce@reddit
My parents were broke as shit on my 15th birthday. My mom threw together a cake made out of pancake batter and iced it with peanut butter and put a regular candle in it. I cried tears of joy because I wasn’t expecting anything at all. I guess they sorta figured I was too old for birthdays after that and I didn’t experience one really. When I had kids, my mom sorta lost her mind. Got piss drunk and tried to choke out my sister in front of my eldest and my wife who was pregnant with my youngest at the time while I was at work, among other things.
Well, I’m not supposed to know this, but my wife is shit at keeping secrets and she’s throwing me a surprise party and inviting all my old friends from out of state. I’m 33. When I found out, I bawled like a child. Nobody does shit like that for you when you get older, sorry to say this but especially if you’re a dude. My wife is the fucking best for that shit, man.
Y’all appreciate every little effort folks put in for you. They don’t have to and it may very well stop someday.
Uncle Shat loves you very much.
jackedcatman@reddit
Enjoy the party, hopefully your mom doesn't get drunk choke your sister again, that's wild.
ibetyouliketes@reddit
Careful, he might start bawling at kind messages
IShatMyDickOnce@reddit
Yeah, I’m a cry baby. I’m not scared to admit it. Life’s rough and a kind word or deed mean a lot to me.
ibetyouliketes@reddit
You're a gentle soul. You remind me of Corporal Upham, from Saving Private Ryan, when he's crying on the stairs.
Upham Stairs
IShatMyDickOnce@reddit
Man, I’ll take that. Have a good day or night where you’re at.
IShatMyDickOnce@reddit
Thanks, homie. Yeah, me too but if it happens again, I won’t hear of it.
Robocop71@reddit
If you have a mom who loves you enough to bake or buy you a custom cake on your birthday, you are a lucky person and you need to show your mom you love her and appreciate her.
There are not that many people on earth who genuinely cares about you and your well-being: when you have one, you hold onto her tight.
What a GF? She will dump your ass after she finds Chad. But mom will always be there.
These ungrateful bastards rage me the fuck out.
ChineseLuckyCat@reddit
I feel the photos are cherrypicked tbh.
DarkScorpion48@reddit
No shit. The most left on the second row was the OG. Then once it became a meme people started collecting them.
Phteven_j@reddit
I think one of them is videogamedunkey and literally everything he does on camera is satire.
legdayenjoyer03@reddit
What do you mean? I don’t see any black people
randomnomber2@reddit
False, that is clearly a white man in that picture
Robocop71@reddit
This is the first strand game in existence. KNACK IS BACK
Isneezepepsi@reddit
maybe his wifes boyfriend bought the cake
ChineseLuckyCat@reddit
beeg yoshi
dazzleator147@reddit
Grown adults with birthdays, it's asinine
You get a birthday party if your kids throw one for you. Otherwise, you go drink with your buddies.
JJJSchmidt_etAl@reddit
But the videos say that birthday parties with step sis can be fun

I shared a bong with my son on his 15th birthday. He was pretty shocked, then we both got really stoned and felt awkward so we walked off in different directions.
He'd already been smoking for a couple of years btw.
Bloomingeckk@reddit
Yuck
HefflumpGuy@reddit
Did you just look at yourself in the mirror?
nicenaga123@reddit
17 is not young adult lmao
surelysandwitch@reddit
What would you consider a young adult?
nicenaga123@reddit
like 22-28
ibetyouliketes@reddit
Too old to enjoy birthday cake and candles, too young to appreciate the effort.
erturgul4life@reddit
What kind of person between the ages of 16-24 hangs out with their family on their birthday lmao
Dangerous_Strain4036@reddit
my birthday was yesterday and if people didnt remind i would forget
GoofyRedditPirate@reddit
"It's your birthday! Whatt do you wanna do kid?"
"I don't know... nothing"
girlgamerpoi@reddit
I barely had any of that shit.
somehuman16@reddit
having a cute cake and eating it with your family is a very chill way to hang out. not everything has to be crazy and over the top
lastvileblood@reddit
Not if you hate your family and they hate you back
somehuman16@reddit
do you think this is groundbreaking news or do you need a therapist so badly youre just gonna vent in random threads?
lastvileblood@reddit
Most of these people look miserable and you're talking about having a "cute" cake with family lol
Sounds like a future oblivious parent
somehuman16@reddit
i clearly wasnt talking about them, i was giving my thoughts on the guy who thinks birthdays should be crazy adventures in new cars
horiami@reddit
You don't need a themed cake either, something simple that tastes good is enough
I made a cake that looks like a mole hill since it's easy to make, it's geniunely good and I've loved it since i was a kid
CrazyTownUSA000@reddit
After 12 it's time to put the birthday parties away
Several-Chemistry-34@reddit
I did not have happy birthdays
utkohoc@reddit
Making your children cringe is what parents live for.
Incels wouldn't get it so not surprised at Ops highly regarded take
Several-Chemistry-34@reddit
🙁
droogvertical@reddit
Maybe those people in those pics are grateful and happy that their loved ones took the time to bake them a cake and acknowledge their birthdays.
Maybe they don’t like celebrating their birthdays (I don’t) and feel down but sit for the picture anyways cause it makes their loved ones happy.
Love is a two-way street and you should acknowledge and appreciate when people show you love in ways you may not prefer, I think it’s mature and kind to do that.
LordJanas@reddit
Yeah bro, its definitely the family's fault that their shut-in 30 year old neckbeard whose only hobbies are vidya and anime doesn't appeaciate them trying to do something to celebrate together.
xSparkShark@reddit
I get that being a self loathing loner is core to the 4chan identity, but having a loved one bake you a cake, even if it looks pretty shoddy, is an invaluable display of affection. Hell the dude second from the bottom on the right looks pretty happy.
If you spend such little time with your family that they know nothing about you I think that one’s on you.
Robocop71@reddit
I agree. If you have a loving parent, even if her efforts are not exactly what you want, you are still in a very very very lucky position
Robocop71@reddit
Look at most of these guys. They are incredibly maladjusted, and would mostly likely just be mocked and ghosted if they go in the wild, so their low self-esteem would be further destroyed.
Parents pushing them towards other people would just lead to disaster. Sometimes it is better to accept who they are, and accept you only have limited power to affect change in them.
You really think any of these guys would actually willingly go on some camping trip in the wilderness?
Any of you who think "I would be a super parent who can walk in and fix them, not like these half ass parents" watched too many "feel good" movies about being some magical hero.
Robocop71@reddit
The 2nd row most right on the sad bingo sheet, she is hot
lagrandesgracia@reddit
First row third column pic. Ive been seeing that since I was in highschool and Im almost 30 now. Kinda crazy to think that kid might now be pushing 40
Shower__Farts@reddit
“I’m going to pick them up in a cool car…”
reddit_has_fallenoff@reddit
I pick up kids in my car for my birthday all the time. Whats wrong with that?
11freebird@reddit
?
Ancient0wl@reddit
Anon’s jealous he doesn’t get to celebrate his birthday and eat cake with family who love him.
-Ein@reddit
Birthdays are for children, grandparents, and women.
The_Elusive_Dr_Wu@reddit
Thankfully my parents spent nearly every special occasion of my youth yelling at each other and making a scene so by the time they finally ended their sham of a marriage I was 15 years old and had no expectations of happy birthdays left
horiami@reddit
Idk I haven't had birthday party in a few years and i decided to throw one now that i got a place to myself
It was pretty fun and everyone got really nostalgic, we spent hours talking about highschool and everything we've been doing since
Feels like your attitude matters a lot
I still take photos with my parents and a cake every year and they are neat memories
