Get the lowest mileage pre-pandemic Toyota product that fits your size needs the best. Everything post pandemic has issues and is made with much more plastic parts that will not last in the long haul. I believe the 2019 rav 4 xse hybrid is the best car to be made in the last 10 years. You can probably get one for under 30k with under 40k miles and it will last you 20 years

Get a hybrid if you have to drive that far , heated and ventilated seats would be a must for me if I had to drive that far regularly. Other than that I’d want the most reliable car I can get , either a Honda or Toyota 🤷‍♀️

I am a diesel truck guy. But I am getting a Prius because they are quick and fun, reliable, and large inside. Just make sure that the owners name is on the original title. Does it match their license? Look for a couple of dings in the body, but a clean title. Never fall for someone saying that they are selling it for a friend or family member. One owner cars are superior. I don't care about the mileage. Other hybrids are great too I hear. Watch videos for the best education.

Honda or Toyota Hybrid, Prius and maybe a Model 3. Not sure what your budget is but I would default to a few years old as you are going to be putting on a lot of miles which is gonna kill your resale value. Depreciation is a cost of all vehicles- you just don’t have to pay it up front like other costs. This is a lesson that 30-40% of people with negative equity are learning first hand! The older VWs with the TDIs can be tuned for good mileage but the car itself is in the 20 year old range…at a certain point, there is a different vehicle that will likely suit you better for a long commute, especially on the reliability front. Good luck with the search and make sure to research, test drive and not be afraid to walk away. The salesperson is there to sell you what they have that day. That is their PROFESSION! I've had 3 full size Buicks that I used for a similar commute for years (among other cars). They were frequently bought and maintained by senior citizens who eventually stop driving. Anything with the 3800 V6 will be reliable, get 30mpg highway and be super comfortable - like driving a sofa. Check local classifieds and bulletin boards at senior housing and recreation centers. 5k or less, sometimes much less. Good luck!

For long highway commutes with stop-and-go traffic, look at midsize hybrids. The Camry Hybrid, Accord Hybrid, and Sonata Hybrid use efficient Atkinson-cycle engines paired with electric motors to keep mpg high even when traffic slows. They also hold value well if you need to sell later

If you are able to charge at home I'd consider an electric car. I have an Ioniq 5 and took advantage of the other side of big depreciation. It's the ideal commuting car. Comfortable, quiet, powerful and I never have to remember to get gas on the way to or from home. The HDAII features are fantastic for highway stop and go traffic and I'd never want to get a car that doesn't have basic driving assist and adaptive cruise to zero mph. Electricity is normally expensive where I live but with solar panels my cost per mile is practically nothing which is a nice bonus. So not a specific car recommendation per se but definitely consider it if you fit in the sweet spot where an EV makes sense, especially while the tax credits are still valid!

No. But it's about the cheapest plug in hybrid and I've read that because the batteries were constantly recharged to the correct levels they aren't as degraded as pure electric cars. On your short trips you'd use electric, shut it off on the motorway for long trips and enable at your destination.

I really like the PHEV platforms for lots of people. The OP mentioned his commute is 60mi each way which exceeds the pure electric range of any PHEV I'm aware of even if they could plug in at work. That is, however, well within the 30%-80% battery charge level that many cite as the best for longevity of an EV. Some battery chemistries are less sensitive to this like the LFP Teslas. That doesn't take into account that many automakers leave a reserve of battery capacity to prevent over-discharge. As far as I am aware most modern EVs haven't had serious issues with battery degradation. Mine has 50 thousand miles and I can still get well over the factory stated range on a full charge (if it isn't wintertime).

I've been in that boat. 5L/100km with my tuned ALH Golf, 6L/100km with my tuned CBEA (common rail, similar enough to CJAA) both mixed hwy/city. The common rail will get down to 4.6L/100km with ideal highway only conditions.

Lightly used Accord hybrid or Camry hybrid. No question. If you want something a bit nicer (more expensive), a lightly loved Lexus ES If you want an SUV - Pilot, Highlander. If you're braver - a Jetta or a Buick SUV. ("braver" - might be more of a reliability risk down the road)

I'm a Honda guy but if I was driving that much, a boring ass Camry hybrid is perfect. The Camry rides smooth and gets phenomenal fuel economy. In my Nashville market they're under 10k for a model with 100k which is barely broken in. Put some nice tires on it and enjoy. If I had a mechanic I trusted I'd get a Volvo V40-50 or a C30 as Swedish cars have bomb ass seats.

Mostly highway benefits pure EV or diesel over a regular hybrid, and your commute is long enough that a plug-in doesn't work well. EV will offset much of the car payment with gas savings if you can charge overnight (requires an L2 charger install at your house for most EV's) You'll also want Adaptive Cruise for the heavy traffic (if you haven't used adaptive cruise in traffic, it's a gamechanger) I'd look for a VW TDI or an EV with 200+ miles of range, kitted out with adaptive cruise. On a budget? I'd start with the Bolt EV or a Golf or Jetta TDI, used in both cases.

It's hard to give any valuable advice without knowing your budget. If you're looking in the 15-20k range, a hybrid starts to make a lot of sense, as they excel in maintaining fuel economy in situations that would be inefficient for an ICE alone. But if you're looking under 10k, then I start to get hesitant to recommend a hybrid just because the options will be less quality, more miles, more potential for a bad hybrid battery.
