Tolkien and LotR will, I think, in the future reach a similar level of importance as the Iliad. Since we don't categorize myths as being works of fiction I'm with you. LotR is a genuine contender for the most impactful fiction ever written. The overall themes are timeless and will resonate with people forever. But it is also clothed in very contemporary and period specific philosophies and ideals. Like the Iliad. In five hundred years scholars studying 1900s England will most likely use LotR and Tolkien like a modern scholar studying ancient Greece does Homer and the Iliad. I say this and LotR is not even my favorite fantasy series and Tolkien is not my favorite fantasy writer. Even so it is simply impossible to deny the objective greatness and impact of it and him.

It isn’t a stretch to, when the text literally says that they have identical appearances, read that they do, in fact, have identical appearances. I never said I didn't care about everything, I said I don't think that gender sliders in games are at all relevant or important, and I don't care about them. Because they aren't. Two things here I think are important to consider.
Lotr is ass and has always been ass. Just because our standards for fantasy were low because fantasy didn't really exist yet doesn't mean Lotr was good. Very similar to the beatles. I'm fairly certain that, aside from the hairiness of their feet, hobbits are supposed to be cherubic and innocent, which is why the Scouring of the Shire hits so hard. Not having masculine features fits the ticket tbh. Only a few of them are ever described in a traditionally manly way, and those are the heroes of the hobbits.
